四、
My friend Mike is a student. Last summer he went to France and stayed there for two months. I was surprised that Mike could have a very long holiday because he didn’t have any money. But he told me that he got a job. He taught an owner of a small shop. I knew Mike couldn’t teach him well, but the owner wanted to practice his English. He had a lot of American customers, so it is very important for him to speak English. Mike spent three hours a day talking to him. The owner gave him a room, three meals a day and a little pocket money.
When Mike came back, he told us that the owner didn’t learn much English but he learned a lot of French.
五、
I like to wear clothes in my own way because I just want to be myself. I would not change the way I dress because of what other people may think. I think everyone will feel happy when he or she is smartly dressed.
But my parents are always complaining about what I wear. They say I should wear warm clothes. They say I shouldn’t wear earrings at my grandmother’s birthday party.
They say I will be laughed at in school if what I wear is different from people all around me.
However, a month later, at the parent-teacher meeting, I can’t believe my eyes. My mother’s wearing a red mini-skirt and a nose ring. My father’s wearing a big Hawaiian shirt and torn shorts. They tell me they’re just being themselves.
