W: Good morning, everyone. I’d like to introduce our guest to you, John Watson. We’re delighted to have John with us today to share his views on protecting the environment.
M: Thank you, Agenda. It’s nice to be here. When I was seven years old, back in the 1940’s, my father bought a large piece of land in eastern Australia. The excellent thing about it was it was completely natural. But this kind of country doesn’t exist any more.
W: What do you mean by that
M: Well, let me explain. We went to live there when I was 10. When I was 12, the foxes and cats appeared. And by the time I was 14, there were no native animals left.
W: You mean, that within 4 years, all the native animals had gone
M: That’s exactly what I mean. But it took a while for people to realize what was going on.
W: So you’re saying that it was the cats and the foxes that killed off the native animals
M: Completely right! But back in the 1970’s people didn’t realize it. Even though Australia was losing wildlife faster than the rest of the world combined, people were blaming the farmers and miners, but not their lovely little cats! And what’s more, they didn’t want to know!

W: Do you think I should go to college, Mike
M: Of course,Brenda! Why not
W: Well,my friend Landon started his own computer software business right out of high school. He didn’t go to college, and he made a million dollars!
M: OK,congratulations to him. But that success story is not common. People should receive as much education as they could.
W: But college is so expensive nowadays. When my brother Jason went to school, his fees were maybe twenty thousand dollars a year. His same school is charging twice that amount now!
M: That’s nothing! New York University costs much more!
W: See! That’s what I mean! Is it really worth the money
M: Listen,I agree that education is too expensive, but college life is such a beautiful part of one’s life. Besides, students can borrow money from the bank.
W: But if everyone suddenly can’t pay back the money, then we’re all influenced!

M: Hello, this is Land Transport Information at Toronto Airport. How may I help you
W: Oh, good morning. Um, I’m flying to Toronto Airport next week, and I need to get to a town called, um, Milton. Could you tell me how I can get there
M: Milton, did you say Let me see. I think that’s about 150 miles south-west of here. In fact it’s 147 miles to be exact, so it’ll take you at least—say, three to four hours by road.
W: Wow! Is it as far as that
M: Yes, I’m afraid so. But you have a number of options to get you there and you can always rent a car right here at the airport, of course.
W: Right. Well, I don’t really want to drive myself, so I’d like more information about public transport.
M: OK. In that case the quickest and most comfortable is a taxi. But it’ll cost you. You can also take a Greyhound bus to Milton.
W: Hmmm, I think for that kind of distance a taxi would be way beyond my budget. But the bus sounds OK. Can you tell me how much that would cost
M: Sure. Let’s see, that would be $15 one way, or $27.50 return… that’s on the Greyhound.
W: Oh, that’s quite cheap. Great!

W: Kevin, let’s go to the beach!
M: The beach I’m too lazy to go there. Why don’t we go somewhere else, Betty
W: There is some community work to be done there. We can clean up the beach. We can collect a lot of plastic garbage, too.
M: What for It’s the government’s responsibility. Besides, why should we collect all of the plastic garbage
W: Kevin, you don’t know the harm the plastic does to the ocean. Plastic can pollute the ocean and, in turn, harm fish and other ocean life. We should care about what happens to the ocean. Didn’t you hear about that dead whale’s stomach that was full of plastic garbage
M: Oh, yes. I heard about that. But what will we do with the plastic garbage we collect
W: We will take all of the plastic to a company that can recycle it.

Many people can be seen wearing face masks now. But it has also created widespread debate. Many people don't trust scientific evidence suggesting that masks can be an effective way to reduce new infections. In the US, Canada and Britain, people have criticized face masks. At one recent protest in London, a person argued against mask-wearing requirements in stores, saying: “People die every year. This is nothing new.”
Shopping with her young children, French museum worker Moret said she misses not being able to see the expression on people's faces. "It's not the same life and it's not the normal life," she added. “So I'm thinking that we'll never get used to it.”
But across the street from the shop, Laura said that going out without a mask now feels almost unnatural. She says every morning she picks a color of her masks to match her mood and clothing, and this daily activity has become a pleasure.
