Nowadays, there are about 2.7 billion gamers around the world and many of them are learning English as they are playing. As for the reasons, some people play games in other languages just because they want to.Others choose English versions(版本) because the games are not available in their first language.① So they play in English and end up learning the language.
It is unclear how many gamers learn English, but there are at least 200 million.Gaming has an effect on language. After the spread of COVID 19, the gaming community grew. A study was made among young people in Denmark. One group played video games in English regularly outside school. One group did not. The students who played video games scored higher on English tests than students who did not. In video games, English becomes a tool. And it becomes useful for students to get further in their games, ② which can make students more interested.
People learn more than just English through video games. Fiona Girotti lives in Pennsylvania. She loves Korean popular music. She started using a game to learn Korean. She said gaming does not replace learning a language in a classroom. It helps her with conversations and sentences, but it hasn't helped her learn Korean grammar. Her online language practice is working. She understands many of the lyrics(歌词) in Korean popular songs now.
Not all video games are suitable for learning a new language. Some games do not use so much language and some are violet. But in the future, some video games might be used more for language learning. Students now grow up with games and they see the importance of video games in learning.③

定位词的选择技巧：
1.优先考虑大写、数字等容易辨识的单词、具体名词(有修饰语的一起勾画)和不太熟悉的词；
2.主题词、常见词(如people)不适合作为定位词。
