The COVID 19(新冠肺炎) outbreak has changed our habits. It has become very common to see people wearing masks(口罩) outside.① Health experts believe it is the key to slowing the spread of COVID 19. But some people do not like wearing them and some might simply forget. Let's say you come upon someone who is not wearing a mask. How do you politely ask them to put one on
Experts say you should make the request in a calm way. You should not make the person feel shameful for not wearing one. That could make them feel angry. Some may feel it impolite because of the way you approach them. “If so, they are much less likely to make a change,”② said Jan Kavookjian. She's a behavioral(行为的) scientist at Auburn University. It is in Alabama, America. Kavookjian also suggests using local rules or talking about health.“Bringing up experts can also work,” she says. It often makes people feel less stressed.
However, even doing so, asking a stranger to put one on could still result in an uncomfortable situation. They may not be easily persuaded(劝说). So other experts say it might not be worth risking a disagreement or argument.③ Instead, consider staying away from people without masks in public. What if you're in a store or restaurant It's best to have a manager or someone in charge ask the person, said Diane Gottsman, an expert in manners. If you find yourself meet someone who is not wearing a mask, Gottsman suggests saying, “For your safety and mine, I would feel much more comfortable if we were both wearing masks.”
