By day, Robert Titterman is a lawyer. In his spare time though he goes on stage beside pianist Maria Raspopova — not as a musician but as her page turner. "I'm not a trained musician, but I've learnt to read music so I can help Maria in her performance."
Mr Titterman is chairman of the Omega Ensemble but has been the group's official page turner for the past four years. His job is to sit beside the pianist and turn the pages of the score so the musician doesn't have to break the flow of sound by doing it themselves. He said he became just as nervous as those playing instruments on stage.
"A lot of skills are needed for the job. You have to make sure you don't turn two pages at once and make sure you find the repeats in the music when you have to go back to the right spot," Mr Titterman explained.
Being a page turner requires plenty of practice. Some pieces of music can go for 40 minutes and require up to 50 page turns, including back turns for repeat passages. Silent onstage communication is key, and each pianist has their own style of "nodding" to indicate a page turn which they need to practise with their page turner.
But like all performances, there are moments when things go wrong. "I was turning the page to get ready for the next page, but the draft wind from the turn caused the spare pages to fall off the stand," Mr Titterman said. "Luckily I was able to catch them and put them back."
Most page turners are piano students or up-and-coming concert pianists, although Ms Raspopova has once asked her husband to help her out on stage.
"My husband is the worst page turner," she laughed. "He's absorbed in the music, feeling every note, and I have to say: 'Turn, turn!' Robert is the best page turner I've had in my entire life."
4.What should Titterman be able to do to be a page turner
A.Read music. B.Play the piano. C.Sing songs. D.Fix the instruments.
5.Which of the following best describes Titterman's job on stage
A.Boring. B.Well-paid. C.Demanding. D.Dangerous.
6.What does Titterman need to practise
A.Counting the pages. B.Recognizing the "nodding".
C.Catching falling objects. D.Performing in his own style.
7.Why is Ms Raspopova's husband "the worst page turner"
A.He has very poor eyesight. B.He ignores the audience.
C.He has no interest in music. D.He forgets to do his job.

For the brave in the army, being sent away from home is just part of the duty. However, it's never easy especially for those with children. So, when I found out I was going to stay in South Korea for a year, I was nervous about how my five children, particularly my eldest daughter Abigail, would take the news since it meant I wouldn't be home to see her graduate from high school.
To my surprise, Abigail told me not to worry and even suggested we make the news known among family members. "We've been lucky you haven't had to be sent abroad yet. Anyway, we can get connected through the Internet. See me on your phone," Abigail said. She stepped into many of my roles when I was gone. I wanted to find a way to thank her and show her how proud I was of her. I started planning the special surprise when my request to return home a few weeks earlier to attend Abigail's graduation ceremony was approved.
When my time in South Korea finally came to an end, I flew home, and stayed in a hotel. On Abigail's graduation day, I hid in an office behind the stage waiting until I heard her name called. I just kept thinking "Don't cry. Don't trip in your heels. Don't fall over." At last, Abigail was up on stage. I slipped up behind her, whispered in her ear, and around she turned! "I was just thinking, like, 'You aren't supposed to be here. What What How ' It was the biggest shock... I'm pretty sure my dad made people think he didn't even know cries. Actually cries are emotional for everyone," Abigail cried.

With the belief that “Schools should not frighten children”, David Schenck founded the Schenck School for some special children in Atlanta, Georgia, to help children overcome their trouble and recover their lost self-esteem.
Growing up in Chappaqua, New York, David started out in public school, and had trouble right from the very beginning. He didn’t feel like he was part of the class and didn’t feel like he could do any of the things they did. An uncle paid the tuition for him to go to The Salisbury School in Connecticut. “They had never seen someone so poorly prepared for their school,” he says. “I had to go back a couple of years because I didn’t know anything about reading and writing. I was trying to go to the 7th grade, but having lots of trouble there. I graduated when I was 20, directly to the Army, and from the Army I took advantage of the G.I. Bill (军人安置法案) and got a degree from University of Michigan.”
When David left for a teaching position in New England, he did not know that this move would change his life and the lives of thousands of young people with dyslexia—nor did he know, at that time, that he had such trouble. He worked with The Rectory School in Connecticut, which wanted him to work during the regular school year and at a camp during the summer. The camp was for dyslexics and it was there that David received his formal introduction to dyslexia and training in the Orton-Gillingham approach.
After a few years at the camp, David returned to Atlanta. He earned his master’s degree in education at Emory University and landed a teaching job at Georgia Military Academy. He was charged with teaching students how to read and write. From that environment, the idea for The Schenck School was born. With his help, these children got the appropriate intervention they desperately needed.
12.How about David Schenck when he was a child
A.He couldn’t get along well with his classmates.
B.He failed to perform as well as other students.
C.He found it hard to adapt to a new environment.
D.He disliked being part of the class he attended.
13.What happened when David was in Salisbury School
A.It is a pity that he didn’t get his diploma in hand.
B.He decided to drop out of school and join the army.
C.It was a challenge for him to complete his studies.
D.He entered University of Michigan from there.
14.What does the underlined word “dyslexia” mean in the passage
A.Difficulty in reading and spelling.
B.Trouble in dealing with others.
C.Interest in choosing a position.
D.Ability in teaching students.
15.What does the author want to tell in the passage
A.Schools should not frighten children.

A little girl had been shopping with her mom in WalMart. She must have been 6 years old with brown hair and an innocent face. It was pouring with rain outside. We all stood just inside the door of the supermarket, carrying our shopping bags.
We waited. Some were patient, while others were irritated because it ruined their hurried day. I got lost in the sound and sight of the rain washing away the dirt and dust of the world.
The little girl's voice was so sweet as it broke the trance (昏睡状态) we were caught in. "Mom, let's run through the rain," she said. "What " Mom asked. "Let's run through the rain!" she repeated.
"No, honey. We'll wait until it slows down a bit," Mom replied.
This young child waited about another minute and repeated, "Mom, let's run through the rain."
"We'll get wet if we do," Mom said.
"No, we won't, Mom. That's not what you said this morning," the young girl said as she pulled her mom's arm.
"This morning When did I say we could run through the rain and not get wet "
"Don't you remember When you talked about Daddy's cancer, you said, 'If we all believe that we can get through this, then we can get through anything!'"
The entire crowd fell silent. I swear you couldn't hear anything but the rain. We all stood silently. No one came or left in the next few minutes. Mom paused and thought for a moment about what she would say.
"Honey, you are absolutely right. Let's run through the rain. If we get wet, then maybe we just need washing," Mom said.

A Cross-Country Running Race
In order to enrich our campus life, our school organized a 5km cross-country running race last Sunday. Ninety students from twenty classes participated in the race, among whom thirty were girls. Participants set out at 9 am from the gate of the school, through the Renmin Park, and finally arrived at the foot of Nanshan Mountain. We do hope that the school will carry out more similar activities in the future.

I ran in the rain for I needed washing not only my body but also my mind.
Paragraph 2:
