More than 35 years ago, Saroo Brierley lived in rural (农村的) India. One day, he played with his brother along the rail line and fell asleep. When he woke up and found himself alone, the 5-year-old decided his brother might be on the train he saw in front of him—so he got on.
That train took him a thousand miles across the country to a totally strange city. He lived on the streets, and then in an orphanage(孤儿院). There, he was adopted by an Australian family and flown to Tasmania.
As he writes in his book, A Long Way Home, Brierley couldn't help but wonder about his hometown back in India. He remembered landmarks, but since he didn't know his town's name, finding a small neighborhood in a vast country proved to be impossible.
Then he found a digital mapping program. He spent years searching for his hometown in the program's satellite pictures. In 2011, he came across something familiar. He studied it and realized he was looking at a town's central business district from a bird's-eye view. He thought, "On the right-hand side you should see the three-platform train station"—and there it was. "And on the left-hand side you should see a big fountain"—and there it was. Everything just started to match.
When he stood in front of the house where he grew up as a child, he saw a lady standing in the entrance. "There's something about me," he thought—and it took him a few seconds but he finally remembered what she used to look like.
In an interview Brierley says, "My mother looked so much shorter than I remembered. But she came forth and walked forward, and I walked forward, and my feelings and tears and the chemical in my brain, you know, it was like a nuclear fusion(核聚变). I just didn't know what to say, because I never thought seeing my mother would ever come true. And here I am, standing in front of her."
1.Why was Brierley separated from his family about 35 years ago
A.He got on a train by mistake. B.He got lost while playing in the street.
C.He was taken away by a foreigner. D.He was adopted by an Australian family.
2.How did Brierley find his hometown
A.By analyzing old pictures. B.By travelling all around India.
C.By studying digital maps D.By spreading his story via his book.
3.What does Brierley mainly talk about in the interview
A.His love for his mother. B.His reunion with his mother.
C.His long way back home. D.His memory of his hometown.

By day, Robert Titterman is a lawyer. In his spare time though he goes on stage beside pianist Maria Raspopova — not as a musician but as her page turner. "I'm not a trained musician, but I've learnt to read music so I can help Maria in her performance."
Mr Titterman is chairman of the Omega Ensemble but has been the group's official page turner for the past four years. His job is to sit beside the pianist and turn the pages of the score so the musician doesn't have to break the flow of sound by doing it themselves. He said he became just as nervous as those playing instruments on stage.
"A lot of skills are needed for the job. You have to make sure you don't turn two pages at once and make sure you find the repeats in the music when you have to go back to the right spot," Mr Titterman explained.
Being a page turner requires plenty of practice. Some pieces of music can go for 40 minutes and require up to 50 page turns, including back turns for repeat passages. Silent onstage communication is key, and each pianist has their own style of "nodding" to indicate a page turn which they need to practise with their page turner.
But like all performances, there are moments when things go wrong. "I was turning the page to get ready for the next page, but the draft wind from the turn caused the spare pages to fall off the stand," Mr Titterman said. "Luckily I was able to catch them and put them back."
Most page turners are piano students or up-and-coming concert pianists, although Ms Raspopova has once asked her husband to help her out on stage.
"My husband is the worst page turner," she laughed. "He's absorbed in the music, feeling every note, and I have to say: 'Turn, turn!' Robert is the best page turner I've had in my entire life."
4.What should Titterman be able to do to be a page turner
A.Read music. B.Play the piano. C.Sing songs. D.Fix the instruments.
5.Which of the following best describes Titterman's job on stage
A.Boring. B.Well-paid. C.Demanding. D.Dangerous.
6.What does Titterman need to practise
A.Counting the pages. B.Recognizing the "nodding".
C.Catching falling objects. D.Performing in his own style.
7.Why is Ms Raspopova's husband "the worst page turner"
A.He has very poor eyesight. B.He ignores the audience.
C.He has no interest in music. D.He forgets to do his job.

Most New Yorkers wouldn't dream of eating a fish from New York Harbor. But it hasn't always been that way. When Henry Hudson entered New York Harbor in 1609, he had to sail the Half Moon around 220,000 acres of oyster reefs(生蚝礁), which had fed the local Lenape people for generations. But all that changed due to overharvesting and a flood of pollution in the water. The oyster reefs disappeared, and the harbor became a no-go zone in New Yorkers' minds.
But today, a team of high school students, scientists and volunteers are working to change that. "Through the work of restoring(使恢复) a billion oysters, we hope to reintroduce the harbor into the awareness of New Yorkers," says Pete Malinowski, director of the Billion Oyster Project, which aims to re-establish oyster reefs in the harbor.
Much of the pollution in the harbor today comes from the overflow of sewage (污水), which occurs when heavy rain destroys the city's combined sewage system, leaving waste water flowing into the harbor. Sewage contains a lot of nitrogen (氮), an important nutrient (滋养物) for plants and animals. But too much nitrogen brings too much seaweed, which draws oxygen out of the water to create so-called dead zones.
Oysters are more than just a popular food. They also help clean the water. They can remove nitrogen and absorb it into their shells and tissue. Near oyster reefs, the water is often clearer.
The goal of the Billion Oyster Project is to have 1 billion oysters in the harbor by 2035. They still probably won't be safe to eat. But the project is using this effort to educate the next generation of New Yorkers about the harbor and to inspire interest in restoring and protecting it.
8.What can we infer about oysters in 1609

9.What is the third paragraph mainly about
A.The causes of a dirty New York Harbor.
B.The outdated sewage system in New York.
C.The important nutrient for plants and animals.
D.The overgrowth of sea plants in New York Harbor.
10.How do oysters clean up water
A.By eating sea plants. B.By taking in nitrogen.
C.By drinking waste water. D.By absorbing oxygen from the air.
11.What is the purpose of the Billion Oyster Project
A.To improve New York's sewage system.
B.To restore the oyster business in New York.
C.To raise people's awareness of New York Harbor.
D.To encourage students in research on sea creatures.

Margaret Mead, one of the most famous anthropologists (人类学家) in the world, was born in the USA in 1901, the oldest of five children. Her father was a professor of finance and her mother was a sociologist. After studying psychology as an undergraduate, Mead began a PhD in the relatively new field of anthropology. Mead was particularly interested in primitive communities because she believed that such isolated cultures could serve as "laboratories" that would reveal ways of living that the modem world had forgotten about but needed to remember.
Having travelled to Samon, a few tiny volcanic, tropical islands in the center of the Pacific Ocean, Mead gradually got interested in gender roles and discovered that modern societies are far more strict in this area than primitive ones. For example, Americans tend to think of men as productive, sensible, and aggressive, while women are often told they're more light-hearted, peaceful, and nurturing. But in her 1935 book, Sex and Temperament in Three Primitive Societies, Mead studied tribes in Papua New Guinea and recorded that in the Arapesh tribe, both men and women were peaceful and nurturing, while among the Mundugumor tribe, men and women were both ruthless and aggressive.
Mead's striking conclusion is that it isn't gender that makes women curl their hair or listen to people's feelings, or race that makes some nations regularly attack their neighbors. Rather, it's the social expectations and norms that have laid the groundwork for each individual’s psychological make-up. "We must recognize," she reminded her readers, "that beneath the superficial(表面上的) classifications of sex and race, the same potentialities always exist, occurring again generation after generation, only to perish because society has no place for them."
She is regarded as one of the most influential social scientists of the last century. People around the world mourned the death of Margaret Mead in 1978. A year later, the president of the United States, Jimmy Carter, honored the social scientist with America's highest award for civilians.
12.What can we learn about Mead from the text
A.She was influenced by her mother to be an anthropologist.
B.She majored in psychology and anthropology as an undergraduate.
C.She believed isolated cultures could expose forgotten ways of living to the modem world.
D.She discovered modem societies are less strict in gender roles than primitive ones.
13.It can be inferred from Mead’s study in tribes that _________.
A.the world is filled with separate cultures
B.no gender characteristics are ever simply "human nature"
C.knowing another culture will help us reflect on our own
D.social standards are responsible for individual's development
14.What does the underlined word "them" in the third paragraph refer to
A.Shared potential among humans. B.Classifications of gender and race.
C.Social expectations and norms. D.Individual's psychological make-up.
15.What's the passage mainly about
A.The difference between men and women. B.The recommendation of Mead's book.
C.The introduction to a great anthropologist. D.The groundwork for each individual's make-up.

19_________ On our first morning in Paris, I went around the comer to the food market to pick up some groceries. I bought a handful of perfectly ripe small strawberries and a little sweet melon. My husband and I agreed they were the best fruit we had ever eaten. But they cost $ 18!
In France, quality of life is much more important than efficiency(效率). You can tell this by café life. French cafés are always crowded. 20_________ When do these people work The French take their 35-hour workweek seriously—so seriously that some labor unions recently struck a deal with a group of companies limiting the number of hours that independent contractors can be on call.

One morning she told her children about a family she had visited the day before. There was a man sick in bed, his wife, who took care of him and could not go out to work, and their little boy. The little boy—his name was Bernard—had interested her very much.
"I wish you could see him," she said to her own children, John, Harry, and Clara. "He is such a help to his mother. He wants very much to earn some money, but I don't see what he can do."
After their mother left the room, the children sat thinking about Bernard. "I wish we could help him to earn money," said Clara. "His family is suffering so much."
"So do I," said Harry. "We really should do something to assist them."
For some moments, John said nothing, but, suddenly, he sprang to his feet and cried, "I have a great idea! I have a solution that we can all help accomplish(完成)."
The other children also jumped up all attention. When John had an idea, it was sure to be a good one. "I tell you what we can do," said John. 15.
My husband and I just spent a week in Paris." So the first thing we did was rent a fantastically expensive sixth-floor apartment the size of a cupboard." Our aim was to see if we could live, in some way, like real Parisians."
17上文"The place wasn't entirely authentic, though." There was a nice kitchen and a comfortable bed."
18上文"...they eat great food and never gain weight"提及了食物;下文"French strawberries do not taste like cardboard. Instead, they explode in your mouth like little flavor bombs." The food is so delicious that you don't need much of it to make you happy."
My husband and I agreed they were the best fruit we had ever eaten. But they cost $18!" E "That's not the only reason the French eat less than we do."
In France, quality of life is much more important than efficiency. You can tell this by café life. French cafés are always crowded." When do these people work "是一个问句,说明本句属于过渡句,承接上文说明咖啡馆里造成客人拥挤的情况,A选项中的"customers"符合咖啡馆的情境设定,同时讲述了不是所有的客人都是游客,那么意味着大部分人都是当地人,符合下文的提问。故选A项。
21-25.ACDBA; 26-30.CBADB; 31-35.ADBBD
Spring comes when it's good and ready; sometimes well before...sometimes well after.",可知,春天的到来或早或迟,很容易在不经意间溜走。故选A项。
收起来;learn about了解;depend on依靠;make up构成。根据后文"since it has so little bearing on the matter"可知,此处是指作者不明白既然春天和日历没什么关系,为什么大家还要依靠日历。故选C项。
根据上文"circle the first day of spring on our calendar"及"Spring comes when it's good and ready; sometimes well before...sometimes well after."
根据“It was as 7 an indication of spring as any calendar"可知,Leon和Jo Martin可以暗示我们春天来了。故选B项。
根据"the words 'Now Hiring' on their sign"可知,Leon和Jo Martin把写着"Now Hiring"字样的牌子张贴在招牌上。故选A项。
Now Hiring' on their sign"可知,Leon和Jo Martin挂上这个提示牌是为春季开业做准备。故选C项。
根据"it threw off our town's circadian rhythms"可知,原来Dairy Queen只有招租时才提示镇民春天要来了,而卖出去之后却起不到提示春天到来的作用了,可推测新店和Dairy Queen开业的时间不一样。故选A项。
根据"that's a pretty good 11 winter's grip has loosened"可知,它可以提示冬天要过去了,春天要来了,所以人们觉得很幸运。故选D项。
故选A项。
Although虽然;When当……
hangs up挂断(电话);pulls on穿;gives away捐赠;shows off炫耀。
I've known Bill since we were very young"可知,从小“我"就认识Bill,所以“我”了解他换衣服的习惯。故选D项。
答案:called; undesirable; themselves; Rescuers; broke; remaining; a; are believed; where; to
动词call意为“叫做”和逻辑主语a long bar of sand构成动宾关系,应用过去分词做后置定语。
I's a hotspot of whale stranding."
故填a。
故填are believed。
故填where。
表示“靠近”应用be close to。故填to。

第一节
答案:
Dear George,
I'm glad to write to you about applying to be a volunteer for campus aerobics competition, which is scheduled for May next year in London.
I hope to widen my horizon by volunteering. You know, I'm passionate about campus aerobics and have practised it for six years, but I want to improve myself. With a good command of English and some professional knowledge, I believe I can do the job well.
Looking forward to your early approval!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
答案:
When Mrs. Meredith heard of John's idea, she thought it was a good one, too. "What a wonderful plan! I will give you a hand!" she said, with a bright smile spreading across her face. Soon they hurried to see Bernard and told him the plan excitedly. Hearing that, Bernard jumped wildly with joy. Then the four kids took out a big box of corn sent by Uncle John. Mrs. Meredith took the lead to make paper bags. John and Bernard were busy in popping the corn while Harry and Clara put the popcorn into each bag. Every one was fully devoted to their jobs. Soon, all the paper bags were full of hot, sweet popcorn and the delicious smell filled the air in the yard.
With everything ready, Bernard started out on his new business. He visited his neighbors from door to door to sell his popcorn. In spite of struggling to make ends meet, people in the community were willing to buy some popcorn to support Bernard's small business. For weeks, the quiet neighborhood turned into hustle and bustle, as long as the children doing their popcorn business. Through everyone's effort, the situation in Bernard's family gradually turned around. The Meredith family's love, through the sweet aroma of popcorn, floated all around the community.
