Analysis of the teaching material
The article Success for Spring Buds is an extension of the topic Music Born in America talked about in Unit 1, Book 8B. This material gives an introduction of Spring Buds Project, and talks about a girl’s experience as a student who has been helped by the project. This article can help students know something about the reason and purpose of the project. What’s more, students can understand how the project change girl students’ life by reading the story. Equally important, this article is well structured and well written, which can be employed to train students’ reading ability and strategies. Besides, it can act as a good example for students to follow when they write about similar topics.
Analysis of the students
The topic of charity is very popular among students, but as students in big cities, they may know little about the Spring Buds Project. This reading may give them new information on this topic. In terms of reading ability and strategies, they have received lots of related training, but there is still room for enhancement, especially in how to get the main idea and locate the key information quickly as well as properly understanding some difficult expressions according to the context.
