句型“主语+was/were/wasn't/weren't+表示外貌特征的形容词(+then).”用于描述某人过去的外貌特征，时态用一般过去时。weren't是were not的缩写形式，wasn't是was not的缩写形式。
例：My grandpa wasn't fat then. He was very thin.
我的(外)祖父那时不胖。他很瘦。
They were not naughty then. They were quite quiet.
他们那时不调皮。他们非常文静。

句型“主语+am/is/are (not)+表示外貌特征的形容词(+now).”用于描述某人现在的外貌特征，时态用一般现在时。be动词随着主语人称和数的变化而变化。now为表示现在的时间状语，也可以放在句首。

I am very thin. But my father is fat.
