Step 1 Warming-up
1. Show some pictures and ask students to guess what feelings these pictures express.

This is Lily’s birthday party. How does he feel
She feels happy and excited.

Step 2 Work on 1a
1. Show two restaurants of 1a. Make Ss look at the pictures carefully and guide Ss to describe them. Then work in pairs to talk about which restaurant they would like to go to and why.
2. Get different pairs of students to act out their conversations to the class.

Why
Because the music there is quiet and it makes me feel relaxed.

1.Listen and fill in the blanks. Then match the restaurants with the statements.

Tina: Yeah. Let’s go to Rockin’ Restaurant. I love their hamburgers.
Amy: Oh, Tina ... I hate Rockin’ Restaurant.

Amy: The food is fine. I just don’t like the environment. Those awful pictures on the walls make me uncomfortable, and the loud music makes me nervous.
Tina: OK. So where do you want to go, Amy
Amy: Let’s go to Blue Ocean. The soft music makes me relax.
Tina: Not me. It makes me sleepy.

Step 4 Work on 1c
Ask two Ss to read the conversation in 1c. Then let Ss make conversations by using the structures “sth. make sb. do” and “sth. make sb. adj.”

John: Then did you go to the concert at the high school
Tina: No. We decided to go to the movies. We saw Remember Me Forever. It was a really good movie, but it
was so sad that it made us cry.
John: Sad movies don’t make me cry. They just make me want to leave!
Tina: You sound just like my brother!

Step 9 Language points
1. I’d rather go to Blue Ocean because I like to listen to quiet music while I’m eating.
would rather do sth. 意为“宁愿做某事 ”,其否定形式是would rather not do sth.
2. I think I’ve made Alice mad and I’m not sure what to do about it.
(1) make sb. mad 意为“使某人发疯/发狂”,相当于drive sb. mad。
(2) be sure 意为“确信;确定”。
3. the more... , the more... 越......越......;愈……愈……
the more…, the more.... 属于“the + 比较级,the + 比较级”结构。前一部分表示条件,后一部分表示结果。
The harder you work, the luckier you will become.
The more carefully you work, the fewer mistakes you’ll make.
4. have... in common 有......共同之处
常见搭配有:have a lot/much in common有很多共同之处;
have little/nothing in common几乎没有/没有共同之处。
We have a lot in common, so we become good friends.
