Located in the east of Shenzhen, Dapeng New Area was once a coral paradise. However, coral coverage has dropped dramatically over the past 30 years.
In November 2013, a group of divers launched a charity event called “Dive for Love” in Dapeng New Area. Sharing a common interest, these like-minded people would dive into the sea to plant corals and share their love for ocean life. I am one of them. For years, I have not only been engaged in coral reef conservative, but also give regular lectures at primary and secondary schools to popularize ocean knowledge and teach students how to protect the ocean. We believe these lectures can help spread the love for ocean life.
In addition to planting coral and breeding broken coral branches, I dive with my friends to take rubbish out of the sea every month. Fishing nets are the most troublesome. I once got entangled in a fishing net while bringing it up, and it almost killed me.
We usually clean the sea once a month, and the coral nursery is cleaned every 10 days. Apart from the undersea rubbish, there is also rubbish on the beaches. We can gather a lot of rubbish, such as straws, bottles, nappies, disposable lunch boxes and so on. It’s all rubbish from our daily life. I wonder how they bear to litter on such beautiful beaches. We don’t ask that everyone takes away other people’s rubbish, but we hope they will take away their own rubbish.
As a mother myself, I often take my child to the seaside and tell him the story of the “submarine forest”. I can see that my child has a special passion for nature from an early age, so I hope to give him a beautiful and clean ocean environment, so that he can enjoy the beauty of nature. When Shanghai introduced a new garbage-sorting policy in July last year, the city’s residents (居民) took some time to get used to it. They joked that every time they took out their garbage, the staff (工作人员) standing by the bins would ask, “What kind of garbage are you ”
Starting on May 1, Beijing joined many Chinese cities by introducing a new garbage-sorting policy, People’s Daily reported. Residents should sort their garbage into four groups: kitchen, recyclable, hazardous (有害的) and other waste.
These groups are represented (代表) by four different colors of trash bins – green, blue, red and gray. Those who fail to sort their trash correctly may face fines of up to 200 yuan, Xinhua reported.
The way Beijing sorts its trash sounds different from cities like Shanghai and Qingdao. These cities use four different groups: wet, recyclable, harmful and dry. Although their names are different, the groups are actually the same. Wet garbage in Shanghai is, in fact, kitchen garage. And dry garbage is the same as other waste, China Youth Daily reported.
There are other environmentally-friendly changes coming to Beijing too. Restaurants will no longer be allowed to provide disposable tableware (一次性餐具) like wooden chopsticks. Hotels and restaurants will not be allowed to provide disposable products such as toothbrushes.
To help residents sort their trash correctly, the Beijing government is offering online guidelines. If people don’t know how to throw away garbage, they can search for it on the WeChat account Guanchenglishi (管城理市) to find out. Rachel Carson(1907-1964)was a pioneer of the world's environmental movement through her writing about the protection of the natural world. Her 1962 book Silent Spring made her well known by many people. It describes the harmful changes in the environment of using toxic(有毒的)chemicals on farmland.
Carson's career started as a biologist in the US Bureau of Fisheries. In 1951, she published her first book, The Sea Around Us, which became a bestseller. It made her rich enough to leave her job and devote her life to writing. She was a gifted writer. Her next two books were also about the oceans and both topped the book sales lists.

It led to a nationwide ban(禁止) on the use of a deadly chemical called DDT, and other toxic pesticides(农药) that farmers used for their crops. Many people say the book led to the creation of the US Environmental Protection Agency.
Since her death, Carson's name has continued to be connected with protecting the environment. There is now a yearly Rachel Carson Prize. We have found plastic in the ocean and in animals like birds, fish and whales. But for the first time, scientists have found plastic in human poop(粪便), USA Today reported.
The finding came from a study led by scientists from Environment Agency in Austria. The researchers followed eight healthy volunteers from different parts of the world. The volunteers wrote down what they ate for a week and then provided a poop sample for testing.
Scientists found nine different types of plastic in the samples, according to the study. An average of 20 small plastic particles(颗粒) were found in every 10 grams of poop. The particles measured between 50 to 500 micrometers.
"The smallest plastic particles are able to enter the bloodstream, the lymphatic system(淋巴系统), and may even reach the liver(肝脏)," Philipp Schwabl, who took part in the research, said to the Guardian.
However, the scientists aren't sure if this plastic is harmful to humans. They're not sure how the plastic got in the volunteers' bodies, either. But most of the volunteers said they drank from plastic bottles and also ate seafood that could include plastic from ocean pollution.
In fact, plastic is everywhere around us. Every year, an average of 8 million tons of plastic waste goes into the oceans, according to National Geographic. There, sunlight and waves break the plastic items down to the size of grains of rice. Most of the particles stay in the ocean. Others can spread into the soil and air. Could plastic in the air fall onto food and get into the human body
Previous studies may also give us a clue. According to USA Today, 90 percent of sea salt sold globally contains plastic. And even some tap water has been found to have tiny plastic particles in it.

38. Paragraph 4 is written to tell us that ______________.

The next time you sit down to a delicious dinner, ask yourself, “How much food will I be able to eat ” If you think about only taking as much food as you eat, it will help cut down waste. Every day, plenty of food goes uneaten and turns into rubbish. This is very sad when we consider that many people can’t even afford to have one meal every day. The problem of waste happens all over the world. People often want more than what they really need.
①The most important thing for us to remember is to be friendly to the environment. Only take as much food as you can eat, buy things in environmentally friendly packaging such as paper or cardboard, and leave rubbish in its proper place. If every person could cut down waste, even just a little, the whole effect(效果) would be great.
Rubbish and waste can be a big problem in large cities. If rubbish or food is left in the streets in our city, it can make the city dirty and may also lead to a bad smell in the streets. ②我们应该尽我们的最大努力解决这个问题并使我们的城市更美丽。 In this way, we will feel more comfortable living in the city.

By searching a key word or taking a photo, people can immediately find out which group their waste belongs in.

Every day, plenty of food goes uneaten and turns into rubbish. This is very sad when we consider that many people can’t even afford to have one meal every day. As we all know, our environment is getting worse and worse . There are many reasons for it. People cut down too many trees and throw rubbish here and there. Factories let out their waste water into the river. This has caused some serious problems. For example, the land is sandy; the river is polluted; even the temperature of the Earth is rising. Also, there are too many cars in the street. The air is polluted and less clean than before.
What shall we do to save her My suggestions are as follows. To begin with, we should plant more trees, put the rubbish into dustbins and stop factories pouring waste into the air or rivers. What’s more, when we go out, we can use sharing bikes or take buses instead of taking cars.
As a student ,we must start small things . At school we can use both sides of paper, at home we also can use used water to water flowers ,it can save energy and be good for our Earth.
We have only one Earth, and we should do everything to protect it, or we’ll regret.
