I Teaching aims
1. Aims of the knowledge:
(1) To learn some words and usage of some phrases.
(2) To learn some knowledge about reading skills.
2. Aims of the abilities:
(1) To improve the ability of predicting the content of the passage.
(2) To improve the students’ reading speed.
(3) To improve the ability of looking for the topic sentence.
3. Aims of the emotion:
(1) To foster the students’ sense of loving and helping the people around them.
(2) To encourage the students to make a difference day by day.

Step1 Leading-in
Use a famous saying by Bacon to arouse the students’ interest in reading. Ask the students to think about the difficulties they meet in reading and how to solve the difficulties in reading.
T: Good morning, boys and girls. How is your study going What’s the meaning of the saying Do you like reading books What problems do we usually meet when we read books

T: In this lovely morning, we will learn how to solve the problems we meet in reading.
Step 2 Dealing with the text
(1) New words and phrases.
1) Ask the students to read the words and try to remember them in 2 minutes. Then check it .
T:“Are you ready Let’s find out which word is missing.”
2)Ask the students to finish the exercises here.

be different from 和……不同

(2) Ask the students to look at the pictures and the title of lesson 15 and ask,
Q1: What do you know from the pictures
Q2: Maybe the article is a(n) ________.
A. poem B. story C. ad D. joke
Q3: What’s it about
Let the students use their imagination to predict the content of the passage. Then give a summary of the first reading skill :“We can predict the content of the passage from the pictures and the titles.”
(3) Fast reading
1) Let the students read the passage as quickly as they can and answer the following questions.
Q1: Why did he want to give up studies
Q2: Who helps him
Q3: What does the teacher often do to help her students and families
2) Ask the students to think about how to read the passage quickly. Then give the second reading tip to the students: Read the passage silently and read it sentence by sentence.
(4) Careful reading
Read the text carefully and do task-based reading exercises.
1) Please find out the phrases below.
放弃 辍学 用一切可能的方式 有好的教育
大有作为,有影响 创造美好的生活
2) Please put the sentences into the correct order.
( ) I wanted to stay home and help my family.
( ) Last year, I wanted to give up my studies.
( ) “Then you can help your family , friends and other people, too.”

( ) But my teacher said , “ With a good education, you can make a difference.”
3) The topic sentence of para.3 (第三段)is _____________________________.
Then give the students another piece of passage and ask them to find out its topic sentence. At last sum up the third tip : The topic sentence is usually the first sentence or the last sentence of each paragraph.
4) Please translate “I want to make a difference in the future-just like my teacher.”__________________________________________________________.
Step 3 The Cultivation of Emotion and Attitudes
(1) Give two pictures to the students and let them compare the pictures and think about what“ make a difference” means.
Then lead students to sum up: Making a difference means making a good change. You can make a difference in your own life and in others’ lives too.
(2) Encourage the students to make a difference every day. With a good education we can be stronger and help more people. Maybe one day we can make a difference in the world. That’s also the meaning of life.
(3) Let the students summarize what they have learned in the class.
Tip 1: We can predict the content of the passage from the pictures and the titles.
Tip 2: Read the passage silently. Read it sentence by sentence.
Tip 3: The topic sentence is usually the first sentence or the last sentence of each paragraph.
(4)T: What can you do to make a difference
At school: listen to the teacher carefully/do homework on time/help other classmates/pick up the rubbish…
At home: do some housework/speak to our parents gently/love our family members…

Ask the students to write a short article about the things they can do to make a difference. The purpose is to improve the ability of imagination, cooperation, and writing skills.
Step 4 Homework
1. Write the short passage on a piece of paper.
2. Finish the exercise book.
