Dear Suzie, I know you may hear this all the time from teenage girls, but this bully (霸凌) is driving me crazy. At times she is lovely and acts like a really great friend, but then she makes unhappy faces when she doesn't agree. If I do anything, she interrogates (盘问) me, making me feel under pressure. She's used to being the centre of attention and this two-facedness has been going on for 3 years. I've tried talking about it and making new friends, but how can I keep the lovely girl instead of the spoilt jealous (被宠坏的和嫉妒的) one Please help me.
There is no “lovely girl” or “spoilt jealous one”. There is a human being who mostly feels lovely and acts nicely, and who sometimes feels jealous or needy or hurt and then acts unpleasantly. As do we all! Perhaps the problem with your friend is that she is used to being the centre of attention, and expects it. But that's no reason for you to do whatever she asks you to do. The truth is that people can't control you unless you let them. People can't push you around and put you under pressure, unless you fall in with the game.
Want it to stop Stop pulling when she pushes, pushing when she pulls. If she makes a face, say “Don't agree OK.” and leave it at that. If she has a go at you, ask her if she's having a bad day, and back off. Tell her you'll come back to talk when she's feeling better, or ask her if she needs to talk about anything. Maybe she needs to learn from experience that when she acts in that way she won't get what she wants. At present, you “reinforce (加强)” her behaviour — by that I mean you show her that it always works. Stop letting it work and she'll soon learn not to do it.
24. What is troubling the teenage girl
A. She is studying under high pressure.
B. She is being bullied by a good friend.
C. She doesn't know how to make new friends.
D. She fails to protect her friend from being bullied.
25. What does Suzie think of the girl's friend
A. She enjoys being at the centre.
B. She doesn't know how to control her feelings.
C. She is so polite that people like to be around her.
D. She always does what other people require her to do.
26. What suggestion does Suzie give to the girl
A. Make her friend realize her unpleasant acts.
B. Get away from her friend for a while.
C. Spend more time with her friend.
D. Follow what her friend says.
27. Where does this text probably come from
A. A textbook.
B. A storybook.
C. A daily newspaper.
D. A teenage magazine.
C
No matter how often it's repeated, let's all face it — we naturally are quite likely to mirror (反映) the behaviour of those in our surroundings. While it's neither a good nor bad habit, I believe we should think about how much we let others impact us. Why Because we're independent people and we can choose our own way.
Jim Rohn, a public speaker, said, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” This means our close circle of peers (同龄人) can be seen as parts of ourselves. That's why I often find it difficult, even now, to go against my family's or friends' opinions, because they're the people I care for most and don't want to disappoint.
When I was around nine years old, I went to a summer camp where I met lots of other kids. At dinnertime, we'd all gather around in the restaurant. At some point, my group of friends and I decided to have a competition to see “who could drink the most glasses of water.” Little me, very competitive and careless, drank 14 glasses of water in 20 minutes. Obviously, I was encouraged by my friends, who were cheering me on. As the night went on, I was rushed to the hospital.
It's the feeling of belonging to a group that's tricky (难以对付的). One truth I know for sure now is real friends will always respect your choices. If you've thought through it and don't want to do something, you shouldn't do it. Your true friends shouldn't force you to do anything. You're the master of your own choices. For example, I've often turned down some party invitations because I've made my own decisions about what I do and don't want to do. This can, however, leave a cold impression at first, because you're not following the decisions of the people you may usually agree with. However, in the end, I realize I'm the one who faces the consequences (后果) of my actions, not my friends.
28. What can we infer from Jim Rohn's words
A. We should have at least five friends.
B. We're likely to be average people.
C. We're easily influenced by people around us.
D. We should spend more time with our friends.
29. What happened to the author in the summer camp
A. Competitive kids made fun of him.
B. He was invited to hold a competition.
C. He was thought highly of by his friends.
D. Drinking too much water put him in danger.
30. What does the author believe now
A. True friends are respectful.
B. True friends are hard to find.
C. It's necessary to make a good first impression.
D. It's understandable that improper choices are made.
31. What is the best title for the text
A. Lead your peers
B. Go your own way
C. Keep fighting in life
D. Be a doer than a talker
D
Of all the animals on Earth, none are so driven to explore as humans. Other animals will go in search of food or water. But humans can be encouraged by the possibility of discovery. So what is it that caused us to spread out across the world 60,000 years ago, instead of just staying in Africa
Perhaps it's in our DNA. In 1999, Dr. Chuansheng Chen led a team of scientists who were studying a gene (基因) known as DRD4-7R. This gene is found in about 20% of all humans. It's been connected with higher rates of risk-taking, exploration, and interest in new ideas. Dr. Chen found that DRD4-7R is more common in societies that move around a lot than those who don't. For example, studies in Africa show that the gene is much more common in nomadic tribes (游牧的部落) than in tribes that prefer to stay in one place. Several other researchers have studied this topic and found additional evidence to support Dr. Chen's research.
But can a single gene be a drive for something as complex as the need to explore Dr. Kenneth Kidd doesn't think so. He thinks DRD4-7R might increase curiosity, but other important sets of genes also give us great minds and skilled hands. He believes that not just one gene, but groups of genes work together to create complex behaviors like exploration.
The context we live in also plays a role in our need to explore. For example, during the European Age of Exploration, explorers became rich and famous for their discoveries. This drove others to try to increase their wealth through exploration. In this case, their exploration was more likely driven by money than by genes.
Maybe the need to explore comes from something inside us, such as the DRD4-7R gene. Or maybe it has more to do with what's happening in the world around us. Maybe it's both. Whatever the reason, it seems we (or at least some of us) will keep exploring the mountains, the sea, the stars, and beyond, because that's just what humans do.
32. What did Dr. Chen find about the DRD4-7R gene
A. It has more influence on Africans.
B. It could be found in most humans.
C. It prevents people in tribes from exploring.
D. It may be more common in people who like taking risks.
33. What does Dr. Kenneth Kidd think of the DRD4-7R gene
A. It is not the only gene to encourage people to explore.
B. It can drive people to have strange behaviors.
C. It is more important than other genes.
D. It cannot be found in animals.
34. What did the example of the European Age of Exploration show
A. The purpose of exploring.
B. The popularity of exploring.
C. The importance of the context.
D. The big changes of the context.
35. Which of the following shows the organization of the text

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Friends should always be honest with you, right 36 You want to trust your friends and that means knowing that they'll tell you the truth no matter what. But a friend who lies isn't always trying to hurt you. 37
The lying can be as simple as telling you that they love the latest dress you bought (when in fact they don't), or as horrible as lying to cheat you. Sometimes friends lie about an outing that you're not invited to. Other times people may lie about being friends with someone else. 38
One of the biggest reasons friends lie is simply to avoid hurting your feelings. Questions like, “Do you think I can sing ” might lead to a little white lie or an avoidance of telling the truth. Some people don't understand the difference between being gently honest with a friend and being so straightforward that you leave a verbal (言语的) wound. 39
What can you do 40 You could even tell them “Be gentle, but be honest,” and then no matter what their answer is, let them know you appreciate (感激) it. If you overreact (反应过激) or get angry with them, they won't feel comfortable telling you the truth again.
A. Why does this happen
B. How to realize this
C. So when they lie, it can be really hard to take.
D. Encourage your friends to be straight with you.
E. Sometimes friends lie just to protect your feelings.
F. Instead of these two extremes, they choose avoidance in the form of a lie.
G. Make it clear that you are there for them when and if they are ready to talk.

When I was five years old, my mom took me to the zoo, and it was there that I first saw a giraffe. He was taller than most buildings I had seen. His neck stretched (伸) up, up and up, far into the bright blue sky, almost touching the clouds. His fur was a dim shade of yellow, and dark brown polka dots (波尔卡圆点) could be found all over him. His long tail stretched toward the ground, almost sweeping the grass.
I imagined climbing on top of him — I would need a ladder (梯子), of course — and riding him through my own yard. On his back, I would be high enough to reach the branches on the trees. I would feel like I was flying through the air! It was then that I knew I wanted — no, needed — to have this giraffe as my very own pet.
When I told my mother this news, she shook her head and said, “I'm sorry, Max, but we can't take that giraffe home. Where would he sleep We have no room for him I think.”
“In my room, of course. I'd love to share my bed with him,” I said excitedly.
“He is much too tall to fit in your room,” my mother said, laughing.
“Ah ... I would cut a hole in the roof so he could stick his head out.”
“And what about when it rains outside How can you protect him from rains and even snow in a cold winter ” asked my mom.
“Well, I could climb onto the roof with an umbrella for his head so he would not get wet.”
“It is much too dangerous for little boys to go climbing on roofs. I'm very sorry, but we just can't take that giraffe home. It's better for him to continue to stay in the zoo where he can play with his friends.”
I sighed as we left the zoo, and I left my pet giraffe behind forever.

第一节
One possible version:
Dear Kate,
How's everything going I'm writing to thank you for inviting me to the party for the international students of our school last Sunday.
This is the first time that I've attended such an activity where I really had a great time with everyone. I met a lot of students who also come from China and made many new friends with other international students. The organizers were so considerate that they even prepared foods from our homeland.
Thank you again for your invitation.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
One possible version:
Later that night, after supper, my dad told me to come into the living room for a surprise. When I walked into the room, there on the table was a small box. There was no giraffe in that box, but there certainly was a tiny hamster. His fur was a dim shade of yellow, with dark brown polka dots all over it. His fur looked like that of the giraffe I saw in the zoo. He was wonderful! I now had my very own pet! “Thank you, Dad!” I said excitedly.
I named my pet hamster Giraffe. Although I could not ride on his back and reach the branches of trees, I could lift him high up in my hand so that he felt like he was flying through the air! Every day after school, I ran back home as fast as I could. I couldn't wait to play with my pet. What a wonderful surprise! And, of course, we still visited the zoo now and then, just so I could say hello to my old friend.
