so,not与it的替代用法
1.so或not可替代that从句。so替代肯定的that从句;not替代否定的that从句,通常与I’m afraid / believe / expect / fear / guess / hope / suppose / think等搭配。例如:

— I think so. (= I think we have enough time.) / I think not. (= I don’t think we have enough time.)
— We can’t finish the work on time.
— I suppose not. (= I suppose that we can’t finish the work on time.)
2.so与not可用来代替if 后面的从句,构成if so / if not省略句。例如:
Are you free this weekend? If so (= If you are free this weekend), I want to invite you to go to the cinema.

3.not可与perhaps,possibly,probably,certainly,surely等副词搭配,用来替代句子。但是so不可以这样用。例如:

4.it也可以替代一个句子。例如:
If you don’t try your best, you’ll regret it. (= you will regret that you don’t try your best.)

Zheng He (1371-1435), or Cheng Ho, is arguably(可论证地) China’s most famous navigator. Starting from the beginning of the 15th Century, he traveled to the West seven times. Today’s generation of young people is the largest in human history. Nearly half the world’s population — more than 3 billion people — are under the age of 25. More than half the world’s young people — about 850 million between the ages of 10 and 24 — live in Asia and the Pacific region.

A big earthquake happened in my hometown on September 21, 1995. At that time I was having my morning lesson when suddenly there was a big shake. I didn’t realize it was an earthquake at first for I had never been in an earthquake. For a minute or two, I saw all my classmates crowding towards the door. I could hear loud cries full of fear. “Earthquake! Earthquake!” People were crying and running. I didn’t know what I was thinking then but I was full of great fear.
