Analysis of Students
Students’ Learning Characteristics: students from junior 2 with a relatively basic foundation of English. What the students have already knew: before this writing course, students have learnt two reading passages in this unit, one of which is about fishing with birds. They have also learnt the grammar part “passive voice” of this unit. Therefore, they have had a basic understanding of the targeted words and expressions that can be used in the writing. Also, as junior two students, skills to write a person are not new to them. What the students want to learn: however, although students may have no difficulties in understanding and sorting the targeted words or expressions of writing a person with a traditional skill, their abilities to organize the stylistic structure and sorting their views in a logical and coherent way need to be improved. Therefore, this lesson aims to encourage students to organize the major information of a person with a traditional fishing skill by constructing a four square map about this person. During this process, students can realize the importance of traditional skills by critical thinking, and appreciate the beauty of it. Thus, they can have a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese culture.
