All of the Shadow puppets are handmade. They are made of leather. The leather is cut out in the shape of a person, an animal or an object. The puppets are painted in bright colours and put on a stick. Some puppets have movable arms and legs. During a shadow puppet play, the actors always stand behind a white screen and hold the puppets close to the screen. They move the puppets around and do the voices of the characters. At the same time, the audience sit in front of the screen. They can hear the actors but cannot see them.
Shadow puppet plays play an important role in the invention of movies and cartoons.
However, with the development of society, shadow puppet plays are not as popular as before. Therefore, we should do our best to protect this traditional art.
