Analysis of the teaching material
Teaching materials in this class include a video and some pictures. In the beginning, students watch a short video about protecting the environment. Five little men in a flying saucer saw some environmental problems in different places and left the earth one by one. When they came back and saw a brand-new world, they decided to stay. Then students retell the content with the help of some pictures and the key expressions. This activity can arouse students’ interest and lead them to use proper expressions to convey meanings. Then, students finish some tasks to practice the grammar points in context.

The content of this lesson is not difficult for Grade 9 students, so the teacher designs some interesting tasks for them. They can correctly use the grammar rules in context.

Step 2 Watching the video and retell the content (10min) Play a video for the students and let them pay attention to the environmental problems they saw in different places. Task 1: Watch a video, and analyze their feelings. Gather information through listening. Elicit students’ knowledge about environmental problems.
Show some pictures and ask the students to retell the story. Try to use the words and expressions on the screen. Task 2: Retell the story by looking at the pictures and useful expressions. Try to use the proper expressions to express meanings.
Step 3 Practicing (7 min) Ask students to finish 3 tasks to practice these expressions. Task 3: Look for the differences between two pictures and talk about them. Task 4: Complete the diary with like, the same as and different from. Task 5: Use different, the same and the same…as to complete a paragraph after looking at a table. Practice the expressions in context.
Step 4 Making a summary (1min) Lead the students to summarize what we have learnt in this lesson. Summarize what they have learnt with the teacher. Review the content of this lesson.
