(Text 1)
M:Are there train tickets to London on September 1st I'd like two tickets for the first class cabin.
W:Let me check. Yes, there are.
(Text 2)
M:I'll leave for London next Monday, and then I'll fly to Boston from there. Do you have any vacation plans, Michelle
W:Mike and I will travel to Beijing to see my parents for the Spring Festival.
(Text 3)
W:Have you seen the news on TV that there's been serious flooding in the South
M:Yes, I have. My friends and I have got to cancel our travel plans.
W:What a pity! I know you've been looking forward to it for months.
(Text 4)
W:Are you ready to place your order
M:I haven't decided yet. Can you give me some advice
W:Sure! Our special today is the fried fish with rice.
M:The fish sounds nice. Can I get that with a side salad
(Text 5)
W:Is the River Thames still polluted
M:It certainly used to be. I remember it used to smell awful, and if you fell in, you had to be taken to hospital.
W:That sounds terrible!
M:But in the 1960s, they cleaned it up, and in fact it's now one of the cleanest city rivers in the UK.
(Text 6)
W:Hello, Jack! It's Emily.
M:Hi, Emily! How has your dress designing been going in London
W:Pretty good. And how was your football game in Paris
M:It was great. We won — and I was named the best player of the game.
W:Congratulations! You're always the best.
M:Thanks. Oh, did I tell you about my trip to London
W:Yes. When are you coming
M:I will be arriving at around 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon.
W:Oh, dear. I can't meet you at the airport because I have an appointment with my son's headmaster then, but I can ask my brother Bob to pick you up.
M:That's good. Thanks a lot!
(Text 7)
W:I am sorry, but I cannot stay for the rest of class today.
M:Why do you need to leave early
W:I don't feel so good.
M:What seems to be the matter
W:I feel sick to my stomach.
M:Perhaps you should get checked out at the Student Health Center before you go home.
W:I have some medicine at home that I could take.
M:Would you like me to give you a ride, or would you like someone to go with you
W:Thank you, but the bus stop is right beside my house.
M:I hope that you feel better soon. E mail me if you have any questions. Make sure you check the website for your homework.
(Text 8)
M:Do you realize what time it is I've already finished a whole movie.
W:I'm sorry; I didn't realize that it was so late. We were enjoying ourselves at the party and ... and I forgot the time.
M:Do you honestly believe that is a good excuse
W:Not really. I'm telling the truth. I think most of my friends got home late tonight.
M:Haven't I asked you to call if you're going to be home late
W:Yeah, you did. I just forgot to call.
M:That's beside the point. You still should have called.
W:You're right. I'm sorry.
M:Next time you come in late without calling, don't even bother coming home.
W:You would really make me spend the night outside
M:Yes. Maybe then you'll figure out how to follow the rules.
W:Dad, I promise this won't happen again.
(Text 9)
W:Welcome to England, and I hope your visit here will be a pleasant one. I'd like to draw your attention to a few of our laws.
M:Thanks.
W:UK drinking law forbids people under the age of 18 from buying alcohol, as well as friends from buying it for them.
M:Ah, yes. It's the same in our country. What about smoking
W:It is against the law to buy cigarettes or tobacco if you're under 16.
M:That's a good law. Most countries have many teens that smoke.
W:Yes, it has actually become a serious social problem for us here. Okay, the biggest thing you'll need to watch out for is our traffic, as it's quite different from that in other countries. You should be careful when crossing the road, as the traffic moves on the left side of the road here. Always use the crossing for walking.
M:Yes, it's really unique!
W:And don't take any chances when crossing the road. I think the last thing you should be aware of is littering. It is against the law to throw away rubbish on the streets or in other public places. Whenever you have something to throw away, just put it in one of the litter bins along the road, or just put it in your pocket and throw it away at home.
M:Thanks so much for telling me all this.
(Text 10)
Hello, everyone. Today, I'm going to share with you a little about the kinds of foods that English people eat.
A traditional English breakfast consists of eggs, fried bread, mushrooms, bacon, tomatoes and baked beans, but most English people today prefer a breakfast of hot or cold grain, juice, and a warm drink of either tea or coffee.
The English lunch is normally eaten between 12:00 noon and 1:30 pm, and most often consists of a sandwich. Along with the sandwich, an English person might have a bag of potato chips, fruit or biscuits. A glass of beer might also be added to lunch if the person eats in one of the many pubs; otherwise, a tea or coffee. Fish and chips, often wrapped in a piece of paper, are still a favorite among English diners.
The afternoon tea is simply a time to snack on a bag of potato chips or a few biscuits, and drink a quick cup of tea or coffee. Tiny cakes and sweets are often eaten as well. Tea is also an old fashioned term for dinner; some English people still say “tea” when they mean the last main meal of the day.

Bill Bowerman was a track coach. He wanted to help athletes run faster. So he had learnt how to make running shoes. He had also started a shoe company with a friend. It was 1971.Running shoes at the time were heavy. They had spikes (鞋钉) on the sole (鞋底). The spikes tore up the track and slowed down runners.
To make a lighter shoe, Bill tried the skins of fish. To make a better sole, he wanted to replace the spikes. Bill dug through his wife Barbara's jewelry box. He hoped to find a piece of jewelry with an interesting pattern. He would then copy the pattern onto the new soles. Nothing worked. Bill was defeated.
Then, one Sunday morning, Barbara made Bill waffles(华夫饼) for breakfast. Bill watched her cook.
He studied the criss cross pattern on a waffle iron.
Inspiration struck. The pattern on the waffle iron was just what Bill was looking for. The squares were flatter and wider than sharp spikes. The pattern would help the shoes hold any surface without tearing into it.
When Barbara left the house, Bill ran to his lab. He took the liquid chemicals that, when mixed, would harden into the sole of a shoe. He poured the mixture into the waffle iron—and the Waffle Trainer was born.
Bill's company put the Waffle Trainer on market in 1974.It was a huge hit. Maybe you've heard of that company—it's called Nike. And today it's worth around D|S100 billion.
It was the waffle iron that had changed the course of Bill's life—and helped turn Nike into a well known name. Today, the waffle iron is kept at Nike headquarters. It serves as a reminder that if we keep trying, we can find a solution to even the most difficult problems. And those solutions can come from unlikely places, even the breakfast table.

According to a new study, a lot of kids don't drink enough water. Erica Kenney, a scientist at Harvard's T.H. Chan School of Public Health, planned to look into the amount of sugary drinks kids drank at first. However, she found many kids had not enough water to drink.
Kenney and her team studied a group of 4,000 children, aged 6 to 19, between the years 2009 and 2012. She noticed that more than half of the kids were dehydrated (脱水的). Boys were 76% more likely than girls to lack (缺乏) enough water. Nearly one quarter of the kids reported having no plain water.
“These findings are important because they show a potential (潜在的) health problem that has not been given a lot of attention in the past,” said Erica Kenney.
60% of the human body is made up of water. It controls the body temperature, sends oxygen all over the body, helps digestion, and performs various other tasks that keep our bodies healthy.
Not drinking enough water can lead to health problems. Your body needs more water when you are in hot climates, when you take part in physical exercise, and if you have a fever.
The United States National Agriculture Library says on average, kids need between 10 to 14 cups of water every day. This water can come from some foods that contain high amounts of water, such as melons or tomatoes, instead of sugary drinks that are high in calories and can lead to weight problems.
“The good news is that this is a public health problem with a simple solution,” said senior author on the study and professor health sociology at Harvard University, Steven Gortmaker.“If we can focus on helping children drink more water, we will help them feel better throughout the day and do better in school.”

Organic food (有机食品) is very popular. It is also expensive. Some organic food costs twice as much as non organic food. Some parents and pet owners pay up to 200 percent more for organic food while some people think organic food is a waste of money.
There is one main difference between organic and non organic food. Organic farms do not use agricultural chemicals, such as pesticides (杀虫剂). This makes sure that the products are natural.
Some people think “organic” means “locally grown”. At the beginning, this was true. Over time organic farming became more difficult. The demand for organic food grew larger than the supply. Small companies had to sell out to large companies. There weren't enough organic materials. This made it difficult for many organic companies to stay in business. Today, many large companies have an organic line of products.
Is organic food more nutritious (有营养的) This is part of the debate. Many farmers and consumers believe it is. They think agricultural chemicals cause health problems, such as cancer. Many health experts disagree. Few studies prove that organic food prevents health problems. Health experts worry more about bacteria (细菌). These can come into contact with organic and non organic food. Doctors recommend washing produce very carefully.
Most people agree that naturally grown food tastes better. Is tastier food worth the extra money This is a matter of opinion. Whether it is healthier or not may require more research. However, organic consumers argue it is better to be safe than sorry.
32. What is probably the major concern of organic food consumers
A.Price. B.Safety.
C.Freshness. D.Variety.
解析:选B 推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“However, organic consumers argue it is better to be safe than sorry.”可知,有机食品的消费者主要关注安全。
33. What is the doctors' suggestion
A.Grow your own food.
B.Reduce the use of pesticides.
C.Make sure the food is clean.
D.Buy large companies' products.
解析:选C 推理判断题。 根据第四段中的“Doctors recommend washing produce very carefully.”可知,医生的建议应该是确保食物干净。
34.Which of the following do most people agree on organic food
A.It tastes better.
B.It is easier to grow.
C.It contains more fat.
D.It is more nutritious.
解析:选A 细节理解题。根据最后一段第一句“Most people agree that naturally grown food tastes better.”可知,大部分人认为有机食品尝起来更好吃。

40.选B 根据下文“ If you're only reading because you ‘should’ read, then over time, reading will drop from the top of your list down to laundry level or going to the dentist.”可知,如果做一件事是承受痛苦的,那么是做不好的,因此B项“人类不能忍受长期的痛苦做好事情”符合语境。

58.to calm 考查非谓语动词。短语take time to do sth 意为“花费时间做某事”,动词不定式作time的后置定语,故填to calm。

On the way back from work every evening, more often than not there would be a homeless man standing at the exit of the freeway. He looked to be in his late 40s but was probably a lot younger. He had shoulder length straight black hair and a short beard, and he was of average stature.
His eyes were what struck me the most about him, they were brown and they had a sparkle.Like an inside light that was beaming out of his eyes. His eyes, I thought, represented the man in general.People say they can talk a lot from a person's eyes.It was certainly true in his case.He always waved at every car, he was always happy and smiling and sometimes almost dancing.
Every day after work I would remember to gather any spare change, and put it aside to give to him if I saw him.A feeling of joy would come over me every time I saw him, while coming off the ramp.He had that effect.
I'd quickly roll down my window and give him the coins.Occasionally the red light would be on for a minute and we would ask each other about our day.His answer would always be the same, “I'm blessed!”
I knew what his answer was going to be every time, yet I would still ask.It amazed me that even in his situation of being homeless he was so positive, and his answer would remind me of how blessed I was.A single mother of four amazing kids, with a place to call home and with a job to provide for my kids.
Then one day I was called into my boss's office and was told that I was being laid off due to the economy.A feeling of worry overcame me, and for the rest of that day all I could think of was “How am I going to provide for my kids, how am I going to pay rent, what am I going to do?”
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
Needless to say that on my way home that day I was very sad and upset.
While I was waiting for the red light to turn, he strolled over to my car.
参考范文:
Needless to say that on my way home that day I was very sad and upset.Still processing what had happened, I didn't even remember to look for my spare change and keep it ready like I usually did.I wasn't feeling the joy as I got off the ramp where the homeless man would be.Yet there he was as always, as I turned the ramp.He set his eyes on me, while still smiling and waving at others.I'd hoped to catch the green light, but I missed it.
While I was waiting for the red light to turn, he strolled over to my car. With a big smile, he looked me straight in the eyes and said “Today I'll give you a dollar”.He then reached into his pocket and pulled out a dollar.I was touched and burst into tears. What he gave me was more than a dollar bill, but a valuable lesson. No matter what material things are taken from you, no one can take away your choice to be joyful.I know I am blessed.

24. What shortcomings did the old style running shoes have
A.They were hard to wear.
B.They were too large.
C.They were impractical.

26.What can we learn from Bill's success
A.A cheerful wife is the joy of life.
B.Two heads are better than one.
C.Where there's a will, there's a way.

28.At first, Erica Kenney's study was to ________.
A.find out how much water schools offered to kids
B.test the bad effects sugary drinks have on kids
C.research how much sugary drinks kids drank
D.figure out whether kids like drinking sugary water
29.After the study, Erica Kenney found that ________.
A.most kids have health problems
B.many kids don't drink enough water
C.girls drink more sugary drinks than boys
D.lacking enough water can be bad for kids' health
30.Which of the following is TRUE according to Steven Gortmaker
A.It is just a simple health problem for kids to be dehydrated.
B.The more water kids drink, the better grades they will get.
C.Everyone has to drink 14 cups of water every day.
D.Kids can benefit from drinking more water.

D.Variety.
33. What is the doctors' suggestion
A.Grow your own food.
B.Reduce the use of pesticides.
C.Make sure the food is clean.
D.Buy large companies' products.
34.Which of the following do most people agree on organic food
A.It tastes better.
B.It is easier to grow.
C.It contains more fat.
D.It is more nutritious.
35.Where does this text probably come from
A.A health magazine.
B.A medical report.
C.A chemistry paper.
D.A menu of a restaurant.
