Plan on traveling around the USA this summer If you need help in arranging the trip, or want ideas about where to go and what to do, there are a number of outstanding websites that can make your American dream come true.
www.fhwa.dot.gov The National Scenic Byways Program covers 150 memorable roads. Some are natural routes, such as Route 1 along the California coast. Others focus on historical ( such as Route 6 ) or man-made attractions ( like the Las Vegas Strip). For each, you are provided with a map, told the route's length and how long is allowed, and given detailed suggestions on sights and stop-offs.
www. oyster, com This is the best website about reviews of hotels in US cities and resorts. The reviews are impressively thorough, covering locations, rooms, cleanliness, food and so on. Importantly, these are not promotional photos by the hotels, but more honest and real ones taken by inspectors. Search facilities are excellent from the 243 hotels reviewed in the New York and you can narrow down what you are looking for by location, facilities and style, or just pick out a selection of the best.
www. 101 holidays, co. uk This is the latest offering that features 101 holiday ideas of traveling around the USA. It's an impressively diverse selection, ranging from touring in the footsteps of Martin Luther King Jr. to a golfing break in Arizona and a cycling and wine-tasting trip in California's Napa Valley. Narrow down what you are looking for — by price, region, theme and who will be traveling — and then just the photos of the relevant holidays remain on view. It's a really clever design.
www. Walt Disney World in Florida can make dreams come true, but the price is not affordable for the majority of people. So turn to long established www. , which dedicates itself to giving big discounts on tickets, hotels and dining at Walt Disney World. The website also offers general money-saving tips, suggestions for cheap and free stuff and brief coverage of other Florida and California theme parks.

A.Route 1 B.Route 6 C.the Las Vegas Strip D.the California coast
2.Why are the photos of the hotels in US cities and resorts real in www. oyster, com

I have a special place in my heart for libraries. I have for as long as I can remember. I was always an enthusiastic reader, sometimes reading up to three books a day as a child. Stories were like air to me and while other kids played ball or went to parties, I lived out adventures through the books I checked out from the library.
My first job was working at the Ukiah Library when I was 16 years old. It was a dream job and I did everything from shelving books to reading to the children for story time.
As I grew older and became a mother, the library took on a new place and an added meaning in my life. I had several children and books were our main source(来源) of entertainment. It was a big deal for us to load up and go to the local library, where my kids could pick out books to read or books they wanted me to read to them.
I always read, using different voices, as though I were acting out the stories with my voice and they loved it! It was a special time to bond with my children and it filled them with the wonderment of books.
Now, I see my children taking their children to the library and I love it that the excitement of going to the library lives on from generation to generation.
As a novelist, I've found a new relationship with libraries. I encourage readers to go to their local library when they can't afford to purchase a book. I see libraries as a safe haven(避风港) for readers and writers, a bridge that helps put together a reader with a book. Libraries, in their own way, help fight book piracy(盗版行为) and I think all writers should support libraries in a significant way when they can. Encourage readers to use the library. Share library announcements on your social media. Frequent them and talk about them when you can.

Derek Rabelo is not the only surfer to conquer Hawaii's famous Banzai Pipeline, but while all others use their sight to do it, this young professional surfer must rely only on his other senses. That's because he is completely blind.
When Derek was born, over 24 years ago, he got his name from Derek Ho, the first Hawaiian surfing world champion. A surfing enthusiast himself, Ernesto dreamed that his son would share the talent of his uncle, a professional surfer. Unfortunately, Derek was born completely blind, but this didn't stop his family from believing that he could do anything he wanted, even if that meant becoming a surfer.
At age 2, Derek received a bodyboard and the beaches of Guarapari, Brazil, became his backyard. He was always comfortable in the water and surfing was in his blood, but he didn't actually try riding a wave until he turned 17, when his father bought him a surfboard. His father taught him the basics and encouraged him to keep practising, but after successfully standing up on the surfboard, Derek knew he needed to become much better if he was going to achieve Ernesto's dream and become a professional surfer. So he joined a surfing school, where he studied under coach Fabio Maru.
Standing up on a surfboard and conquering small waves is one thing, while gathering the courage to take on Hawaii's Banzai Pipeline is another. But that's exactly what Derek Rabelo set out to do just months after learning how to surf. Everyone told him it was too dangerous, but he felt he could do it. And he did, earning the praise of famous professional surfers like Kelly Slater and Mick Fanning. Since then, Rabelo has been surfing the Pipeline every winter.

With the New Year just months away, you are probably looking forward to watching the wonderful fireworks shows. Unfortunately, the over ten million blind Americans, and scores more around the world, have never been able to experience this joyful celebration. That may change soon thanks to Feeling Fireworks, a tactile (能触知的) fireworks experience invented by the masterminds at the Disney Research Lab in Switzerland.
To experience the show, users stand in front of a large screen, which is made from special material. They then place their hands at the base of the screen and move them around to feel the fireworks. Alternatively, their hands can be placed in the center of the screen, where the first explosion happens, and then moved across to explore other fireworks.
As the fireworks begin to explode, one of five nozzles(喷嘴) at the back of the screen starts to spray water, creating shaking movements. One specializes in the "blooming flower" effect, while another reproduces the "crackle(噼啪声)" effect. The rest take care of rockets and explosions. A computer controls the timing, while a Microsoft Kinect camera tracks the person's movement. According to the inventors, Feeling Fireworks allows users to experience "tactile fireworks that are similar to physical fireworks happening in the sky".
First appearing at the User Interface Software and Technology conference held in Quebec City, Canada, the low-cost technology is still in its early stage, with only a 66 percent success rate. However, the team plans to continue improving the experience and believes the day when everyone will be able to enjoy the thrill of the fireworks shows is not far. When ready, Feeling Fireworks will be first available only at the Disney theme parks, and then hopefully, at the fireworks shows worldwide.
1.What does the underlined word "That" in Paragraph 1 probably refer to

I was a taxi driver, a father of a 16-year-old boy at that time. My son was good at school, and he would graduate from senior high school and go to university, but he was hesitating to choose his future job and he always changed his mind. I did give him advice but he didn’t follow it. And one Monday morning, I stopped at New York Hospital when I found a well-dressed man coming over. He was waving to me. I waited patiently until he jumped into the taxi. "LaGuardia Airport, please," he said.
As always, I wondered about my passenger. So I asked, "What do you do " "I am working at the hospital." For some unknown reason, I decided to ask for his help.
"Could I ask a favor " He didn't answer at first. But I continued, "I have a son, 16. He's doing well in school. He will graduate from senior high school. He wants a job this summer. Is there any possibility that you might get him a summer job " After a minute, he said, "The medical students have a research project. Maybe he could fit in. Have him send me his school records." He searched his pocket and handed me a card.
That evening, when I got home, I pulled the card from my pocket. "Robbie," I said proudly, "This could be a summer job for you. Send him your school records." Robbie took the card and read it out loud, "Fred Plum, New York Hospital." "Is this a joke " he said in doubt. After I shouted and threatened to cut off his pocket money, Robbie promised to send off his grades the next morning.

B.答案:1-4.CBCD
解析:1.考查推理判断。根据第一段中的"I was always an enthusiastic reader, sometimes reading up to three books a day as a child... through the books"可推知,小时候,作者与书形影不离。故选C。
2.考查词义猜测。根据画线词组前的"As I grew older and became a mother, the library took on a new place"及下文的"I had several children... to read to them"可知,随着作者年龄的增长,她成为母亲,图书馆在她心里有了新的"地位",书成了她和孩子们娱乐的主要来源。对他们来说,去图书馆读书是件至关重要的事情。故an added meaning应是指"在作者家中传递的读书的乐趣"。故选B。
