A woman in Pulaski, Virginia, says she was stopped by a squirrel, who pulled on her leg repeatedly and led her to help its injured baby.
Tia Powell was walking in Kiwanis Park when she was "approached by a squirrel", the Pulaski Police Department wrote on Facebook. The squirrel stood in her way on the path. After realizing that the squirrel did not mean any harm and wasn't going to leave her side, Powell turned around and the squirrel led her down the path to a baby squirrel with an injured leg.
At one point, Powell wasn't sure she could help and she began walking and the squirrel followed her again and actually pulled her trouser leg! So, she fed the squirrels a sandwich she had with her and watched them try to jump up into a tree. When she realized the baby squirrel was still struggling to get up the tree, she decided to call in backup. Powell called the Pulaski Police Department.
Powell didn't know how the baby squirrel got injured, but she thought a nearby street cat was the culprit (肇事者). So, the group of rescuers decided to move the squirrels to safer area. "We were able to get the baby and mother to a different area with more trees and it was able to climb all the way up and they looked very happy," Powell said.
She went back a few days later to show her kids where it all went down. In the trees, Powell spotted two squirrels staring at her, and couldn't help but wonder if they were the same squirrels she rescued.
1. Why did the squirrel stop Tia Powell
A. To attack her side. B. To save its baby.

C. A street cat. D. Tia Powell's kid.
4. How did the squirrel feel after getting rescued

Jane Austen ever popular
Last summer, the UK honored one of its favorite writers, Jane Austen (1775 - 1817), by making her the face of the new 10 note. In the 200 years since her death, Austen's fame has increased to global fame.
Yet Austen's works are so very English that it's rather strange she should be so popular all over the world. Her novels are so of her time that it's remarkable that she's still appreciated in this very different age. Her most famous works — including Pride and Prejudice(《傲慢与偏见》) the one for which she is most known — are set in the world of the English gentry (上流社会人士) in the early 19th century.
Most of her fiction is about young women of that time. Women of the gentry could not work, so their chances of happiness or even basic living depended upon finding a husband. This is a very serious subject, of course, but the joy of Austen’s stories is her ability to make wonderful, but also touching comedy out of something so serious.
Take Pride and Prejudice as an example. The main plot of the novel is driven by the love-hate relationship between Elizabeth and Mr Darcy, a wealthy man. At first, they don't get on. Elizabeth finds Darcy too proud; she feels he thinks he is better than everyone else. She thinks that he looks down upon her family in particular. Darcy, while admiring Elizabeth, believes that she has taken unfairly to him. The pleasure of the novel is reading how these difficulties are overcome and how the comical and unexpected ending is achieved.
If we think about this story, it's obvious why Jane Austen is still popular more than 200 years after her death, and why readers can still have the same feelings with characters from the long dead world of the 19th century English gentry. Although there have been many changes since that time, it's still the greatest challenge in life for men and women to find the partner of their dreams.
1.It can be concluded from Paragraph 2 that the author ________.
A.believes Jane Austen's works are ahead of her time

C.has doubts about Jane Austen's popularity all over the world

A.has a sad and unexpected ending
B.deals with a serious social issue in a lighthearted way
C.centers on poor people's struggles in the early 19th century
D.tells readers that everyone can succeed through hard work
3.We can learn from the text that Jane Austen remains popular today because _________.
A.readers enjoy reading love stories about wealthy people
B.readers are attracted by the way people deal with difficulties in the stories
C.readers can always find something new from her novels
D.her works deal with problems many of today's readers still face
4.The text is mainly written to ________.
A.tell us why Jane Austen is chosen to be on the new 10 note
B.introduce the story of Pride and Prejudice
C.explain why Jane Austen is still popular today
D.introduce Jane Austen's creative writing style

Before uploading a photo of ourselves to social media, chances are that we'll use an app to smooth our skin, make our eyes look bigger, and lips fuller. With a couple of taps on our mobile phone, we can get a quick fix and present the "best" version of ourselves to the world. However, the problem is, when we simply edit our imperfections away, we're also changing the way we look at ourselves.
Last month, researchers published the article Selfies—Living in the Era of Filtered(过滤的) Photographs. The article analysed photo editing apps' bad influences on people's self-respect and their possibility to cause appearance anxieties. The researchers also warned that such apps make it difficult to tell the difference between reality and fantasy. "These apps allow one to change his or her appearance in minutes and follow an unrealistic standard of beauty," the article reads.
In the past, people may have compared their looks to those of famous people. But for today's young people, beauty standards are most likely set by what they see on social media. "From birth, they are born into an age of social platforms where their feelings of self-worth can be based purely on the number of likes and followers that they have, which is linked to how good they look," British cosmetic doctor Tijion Esho told The Independent. This is why many young people suffer an identity trouble when it comes to appearance.
"Now you've got this daily comparison of your real self to this fake self that you present on social media," Renee Engeln, a professor of psychology, told the HuffPost website. Engeln further pointed out that when people spend too much time making such comparisons, they may become "beauty sick" and find it difficult to accept what they actually look like. "Because between you and the world is a mirror. It's a mirror that travels with you everywhere. You can't seem to put it down," she told The Washington Post. So when we look in a real mirror, we shouldn’t think to ourselves, "Do I look as good as myself in the filtered photos " Instead, we should think, "I feel good; I have my health."
1.Before uploading a photo to social media, we will probably _________.
A.have an operating to make our eyes look bigger
B.use some cream to smooth our skin
C.use an app to fix our photo
D.edit our perfections away
2.What can we learn from Paragraph 2
A.In many ways, photo editing apps are beneficial to people.
B.Photo editing apps are likely to cause people's anxieties about their appearance.
C.Photo editing apps can make people more beautiful.
D.Photo editing apps help people judge realistic beauty.
3.When it comes to appearance, why do many young people suffer an identity trouble
A.Because they compare their looks to those of famous people.
B.Because beauty standards are set by social media.
C.Because their feelings of self-worth depend on their own likes and dislikes.
D.Because their feelings of self-worth depend on their appearance.
4.According to Engeln, what should we do
A.We should feel good about what we actually look like.
B.We should spend more time making comparison of our real self to fake self.
C.We should take a mirror with us everywhere.
D.We should try to look as good as ourselves in the filtered photos.

A few years ago I worked in an international company that sold computer devices. I had to travel a lot over the country as a part of my work. I remember that I was at a stage of my life where I only cared about how to make more money.
On one of my trips, I came to the airport to take a bus to downtown, as usual. It was the same routine: get into the city, take the bus to the hotel, visit the customer, work late, take the bus back to the airport and fly back... That day, for some reasons, I decided to take the stairs down to a different exit, where I came across a beautiful garden I had never seen before. I waited there, enjoying the scenery. Finally, the bus came.
Usually I always took the seat behind the driver. That day I sat down somewhere in the middle. A boy was seated next to me, carrying a lot of suitcases. Suddenly, he turned to me and gave me one of the sincerest smiles I had ever seen from a stranger. Warmly, he said, "Hi, the perfect day in the perfect place, huh "
I remember thinking to myself----this must be one of those typical people who are young and naive and just think everything is beautiful and easy. Why was he annoying me when I just wanted to enjoy the bus ride But out of politeness, I replied, "Perfect! Did your parents pay for you to have some vacations on, the beach " "No, I'm not here for vacation, and I don't have parents," He shook his head. "I'm here because I want to achieve my biggest dream. I'm on the way to the army school where my grandfather studied a long time ago."

A.答案:1-3.CBB
For ticket information, please ask at your local station or call 13 12 30.
The lost property office is open Monday to Friday 7:30 am to 5:00 pm and is located at Roma Street station.
根据第四段中she thought a nearby street cat was the culprit可知,Powell认为肇事者是流浪猫。
根据"it's rather strange"以及"Her novels are so of her time that it's remarkable that she's still appreciated in this very different age"可知,作者认为Jane Austen的作品是非常英式的,具有她那个时代的特点,但是很奇怪在这个完全不同的年代她的作品依旧能在全世界继续流行,故从第二段得出的结论是作者很惊讶Jane Austen的作品仍然流行,故选D。
This is a very serious subject... comedy out of something so serious"以及第四段中的"The pleasure of the novel is... how the comical and unexpected ending is achieved"可知,作者认为《傲慢与偏见》以轻松的形式来处理严肃的社会问题,因此选B。
Although there have been many changes since that time, it's still the greatest challenge in life for men and women to find the partner of their dreams"可知,Jane Austen的作品至今仍然流行的原因是尽管时代变了,但是寻求合适的伴侣仍然是人们生活中面临的最大挑战,而这个问题也是Jane Austen的作品探讨的问题。因此选D。
Before uploading a photo of ourselves to social media, chances are that we'll use an app to smooth our skin, make our eyes look bigger, and lips fuller.
The article analysed photo editing apps' bad influences on people's self-respect and their possibility to cause appearance anxieties.
From birth, they are born into an age of social platforms where their feelings of self-worth can be based purely on the number of likes and followers that they have, which is linked to how good they look, "可知,他们出生在一个社交平台的时代,在这个时代里,他们的自我价值感完全基于他们收到的点赞数量和粉丝数量,而这与他们的外表有关。
So when we look in a real mirror, we shouldn't think to ourselves, "Do I look as good as myself in the filtered photos " Instead, we should think, "I feel good; I have my health." 故选A项。

③空后的"track your development effectively"与C项"Revision is a process of improvement"相呼应。
Ordering your subjects in an effective manner"与之呼应,且下文举了如何排序的例子。

Paragraph 1:
"I lost my dad 10 years ago and then my mom married again. My stepfather threw me out of the house. Since then, I've been living all over the country. I've met many people who were kind to me. And I've learnt a lot from life through these years," he said softly. At that point I couldn't say a word. I felt the tears coming. Fortunately, he continued talking.
Paragraph 2:
He smiled and told me that for 10 years, he had only one thing on his mind----joining the army school like his grandfather. "My grandfather was a general of the army. He left me this," he said proudly. He showed me a golden knife and said this was the best memory of his childhood. "The only thing I know is that I will follow my dream and every day I will be happy." Soon, the bus reached his stop, he stood up, took all his suitcases, and said goodbye with a big smile. From that day on, I always try to do everything with my best smile on my face.
