Dear Sir/Madam, I have read your advertisement in the newspaper. You mentioned in it that your instructors are fully qualified and you ensure that learners will be able to swim well after one week’s training.
I can swim a little but I’m not very confident about it. So I’m interested in taking part in the training course. Fortunately, the summer holiday is around the corner. I’m writing to inquire when and where the course will be given, and how long the training course will last each day. I also want to know how much you will charge me for that.
Besides, would you be so kind as to tell me whether there is anything special that should be prepared or does your company provide everything necessary
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua .阳安中学2022年高一下期入学考试英语试题

When I was five years old, my parents would have to pull me home from yet another painful
English vacation. I still didn't want to leave. I wanted to be away from home. I wanted to go somewhere new and exciting. This became the theme of the next twenty years. I'd spend the whole year counting down to my next holiday, and then as soon as I left I'd begin to dread having to return home. Year after year.
Ten years ago, I decided to build a life that I didn't want to escape from. I knew I wanted to travel in the long term, but I didn't have a lot of money or savings, and there was no one paying for my adventures. For five years, I did three jobs while studying full-time at university. I didn't eat out and I didn't buy anything I didn't need. I even moved in with my parents. I was able to save $16,000 over those five years, which was enough to keep me on the road for a couple of years.
But what if two years wouldn't be enough Before leaving, I began to spend my time in
making plans that would allow me to work anywhere that had an Internet connection. At the time, I was studying for a master degree in physics. While studying, I came up with a list of my interests and skills and began researching into a way to do these anywhere. If I could make money from it and if I could do it online, then it was something worth going after.
I created a writing file that would help me to find free writing jobs. I researched English and physics teaching online, and built travel websites to earn income through sales and advertising. Most of these failed, but I didn't give up.
The work I do has changed over the years and it's still changing now. Now, I pay my traveling
through several different things. I'm the Student Travel Expert for , and a senior writer for Too Many Adapters, a travel technology website. In addition, I will have my first book published this summer. I also offer a travel planning service to help readers prepare for their travels abroad.
To reach this point, where I can cover my expenses and travel full-time, took many, many
years of hard work. For me, the freedom makes it worth it. With everything set in place, finally my dreams came true.
What does the underlined word "dread" mean in Paragraph 1
A. Fear B. Forget C. Miss D. Consider
The author has taken the following jobs except .
A. placing advertisements online B. offering a travel planning service
C. teaching physics in a university D. free writing on the websites
Which of the following best describes the author
A. Open-minded B. Kind-hearted
C. Cold-blooded D. Strong-willed
27. What is the passage mainly about
Why the author desired freedom.
Why the author needed money.
How the author made his living.
How the author realized his dream.

A new study shows that rising levels of planet-warming gases may reduce important nutrients (营养物质) in food crops(农作物).
Researchers studied the effects of carbon dioxide(二氧化碳) on rice. In the experiment, scientists grew 18 kinds of rice in fields in China and Japan. They set carbon dioxide levels to what
scientists are predicting for our planet by the end of the century. Rice grown under high carbon
dioxide conditions had, on average, 13 to 30 percent lower levels of four B vitamins and 10 percent less protein (蛋白质). The crops also had 8 percent less iron and 5 percent less zinc than
rice grown under normal conditions. However, vitamin E levels increased by about 13 percent on average.
The researchers said the effects of planet-warming gases would be most severe for the poorest citizens in some of the least developed countries. These people generally eat the most rice and have the least complex diets. That includes about 600 million people in Indonesia, Cambodia, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Laos and other nations, mainly in Southeast Asia.
Other studies have shown that higher temperatures from climate change and weather extremes
will reduce food production. But scientists are finding that rising levels of carbon dioxide and
other planet-warming gases threaten food quality.
Earlier studies showed that wheat, rice, field peas and soybeans grown under high carbon dioxide conditions all had lower levels of protein and minerals. Scientists predicted that almost 150 million people might be at risk of having too little protein or zinc in their diet by 2050.
The new study suggests a way to lower the nutritional harm of climate change. That is to grow different forms of rice that can adapt to higher carbon dioxide levels.
Growing rice under high carbon dioxide conditions may____.
A. increase iron in the rice B. make it less nutritious
C. cause losses of Vitamin E D. make it more delicious
How can people reduce the nutritional harm of climate change?
By importing rice from China and Japan.
By taking other kinds of food instead of rice.
By avoiding eating rice from Southeast Asia.
By growing rice suitable for the environment.
What’s the author’s purpose of writing the text
To explain the effects of planet-warming gases on food crops.
To inform readers what nutrients food crops consist of.
To share the results of some new studies on people’s diets.
To help readers know where food crops are mainly produced.
In which part of a magazine can you read the text?
A. Advertisements. B. Arts and culture.
C. Science report. D. Business news.
D
Over a hundred years ago in 1911, something strange was found in the glaciers (冰川)of
Antarctica. Crilffith Taylor--an Australian geologist, had discovered a blood red stream pouring out of the ice cascades (瀑布) of Talor Glacier! Popularly known as the Blood Falls, scientists had not
been able to find the reason behind the blood red liquid flowing through the ice---until recently. The mystery of the Blood Falls had finally been solved.
When these falls were first discovered, scientists had believed that the red colour came from a
large amount of red algae (海藻) concentrated in the water. Red algae contain a pigment (色素)
which reflects red light, making the algae appear red.
This theory made sense, until it was later found that algae do not play a part in the red color of
the flowing liquid at all. What really causes Talor Glacier’s waters appear blood red, is the presence of iron oxide in the liquid. The waters of the blood falls are rich in salt and iron content, and when this water comes in contact with the air, it turns red—just like rust! The water in these falls is often referred to as “brine” by scientists because of the high salt content in the water.
This reasoning behind the red colors of the falls was found back in 2003. However, the entire
mystery had not yet been solved. How is it then, that the Blood Falls are not frozen
Researchers at the University of Colorado and University of Alaska found that inside the
glacier, there was a network of channels and reservoirs (水库)that move the water around. Salt
water has a lower freezing temperature. In addition, when any substance undergoes a change in state, it gives off heat. Therefore, the brine actually warm itself up while it’s freezing! How this works is that when the brine is flowing through the Talor Glacier, some of it does freeze. As a
result of changing state from liquid to ice, the brine gives off heat. This heat is enough to keep the
rest of the brine in liquid form, which is why it flows out of the glacier.
Incredible new chemistry facts found, and mystery solved!
32.According to the text, the red algae theory was once considered_______
A. ridiculous B. complex C. impractical D. reasonable
33.Why does the Blood Falls look red in colour
Because the flowing liquid reflects red sunlight.
Because its liquid is rich in red algae.
Because there is too much salt and iron in its water.
Because the air is thin and rare in Antarctica.
34.What is the main reason for the Blood Falls’ not freezing
The water continued flowing constantly.
There is too much salt in the water.
The brine gives off heat while freezing.
Temperatures aren’t high enough for flowing water.
35.What's the best title of the text
The mystery of the Blood Falls.
The birth of the Talor Glacier.
The flowing red water in Antarctica.
The discovery of the blood glacier.
