Warming up Ask the question: What do you think of when I mention the word ‘dog’ Brainstorm and speak out different kinds of materials that contain dogs. Students are supposed to arouse their interests and recall related information, Students get a general idea of the topic.

Presentation Reveal what a good story consists of. Introduce the plot of a story in a concrete way. Watch carefully and take notes while listening. Get a rough idea of the plot. Students understand the meaning of the plot. Students experience the plot mountain to have a better understanding of the plot.
Detailed information presentation Present detailed information of each part of the plot. In each part, show students movie clips to demonstrate what those elements are like and give explanations if necessary. Watch the presentation and take notes. Watch movie clips and comprehensively understand the content of each element. Students are expected to grasp the meaning of each element. Enable students to master the usage of the plot by watching movie clips as examples.
practice Show students more practice article which is divided into five parts in the wrong order, ask students to read and place them based upon the plot mountain. Show some hints about the plot of the article, and then encourage students to provide evidence or explanations to support their answers. Students read each part and match the letter with the five parts/elements of the plot. Take notes, read the article again and fill the blanks by applying the plot mountain knowledge. Students practise the knowledge of the plot they have learnt. Students are supposed to scan detailed information and apply the plot to speak out their ideas.
Extension Activity Assign students to introduce their favourite story by applying the plot mountain as homework. Students apply the plot to write about their favourite stories that include opening, rising action, climax, falling action and ending. Students create their own stories and apply five elements in writing task to practise the plot knowledge in real situation.
