(2020·广东·深圳实验学校高中部高一期末) While the start of a new school year is always exciting, this year was even more so for some elementary school students in Auckland, New Zealand. They became the world’s first kids to be “taught” by a digital teacher, Will. Will is just an avatar(用户头像)that appears on the students desktop, tablet, or smartphone screen, not a human-like robot walking around the classroom.
Auckland energy company Vector and AI company Soul Machines worked together to develop Will, which has been modeled after the human brain and nervous system, allowing it to perform human-like behavior. The digital teacher is currently assigned to teach Vector’s “Be sustainable with energy,” a free program for Auckland elementary schools.
Just like the humans it replaced, Will is able to instantly react to the students’ responses to the topic. Thanks to a webcam(网络摄像头)and microphone, the avatar not only responds to questions the kids may have, but also picks up non-verbal cues(非口头提示). For instance, if a student smiles at Will, he responds by smiling back. This two-way interaction not only helps capture the students’ attention, but also allows the program’s developers to monitor their participation, and make changes if needed.
Vector’s Chief Digital Officer, Nikhil Ravishankar says, “What was fascinating to me was the reaction of the children to Will. The way they look at the world is so creative and different, and Will really captured their attention.”
Will, in place since August 2018, has been a great success so far. However, regardless of how popular it becomes, Will is unlikely to replace human educators any time soon. For. one, the avatar’s knowledge base is severely restricted. But more importantly, even the smartest digital avatars could never predict and react to all the unexpected situations that educators have to deal with on a daily basis. However, it could come in handy as a “personal tutor”, providing kids with one-on-one help on specific subjects or even topics.
31.What is Willable to do in class
A.Think like humans. B.Satisfy all kids’ needs.
C.Interact with the students. D.Monitor students’ participation.
32.What's Nikhil Ravishankar’s attitude towards Will
A.Positive. B.Negative. C.Doubtful. D.Unconcerned.
33.What is mainly discussed about Will in the last paragraph
A.Its popularity. B.Its limitations. C.Its applications. D.Its convenience.

(2021·浙江·高一阶段练习)Though the Tokyo Olympic Games drew to a close on Aug 8, the public is still watching the athletes. Their outfits and the cutting-edge technologies that helped them in the competition have aroused people's interest.
Su Bingtian, the first Chinese sprinter (短跑运动员) to reach an Olympic 100m final, has owed his breakthrough to scientific training, "It takes Su 47 steps to run 100 meters. Each step counts." Liang Dong, a member of Su's training team, told Shenzhen Evening news. "Randy Huntington. Su's American coach and a biomechanics (生物力学) expert in track and field, has collected a lot of data on outstanding sprinters and built a database. He put in all of Su's data and got a nearly perfect model. When Su is training, the team uses high-speed cameras to record his training and compares it with the model to find out his weaknesses."
The technologies have also brought a new boost to table tennis. On July 27, the semifinal match between China's Sun Yingsha and Japan's Mima Ito was in full swing at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. You wouldn't have guessed that besides players, judges and audiences, a powerful Al platform was monitoring the match.
Every movement of Mima Ito was recorded by this Al cloud platform. At an average speed of 100 Mbps, the data was sent to the technical team of the Zhejiang University Table Tennis Intelligent Big Data Analysis Platform, 2,442 kilometers away from the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, according to The Paper.
The platform has stored the data of more than 8,000 matches so far. The research team has been working on match simulation (模拟) since 2018. "Using big data and Al, we can precisely simulate and predict how the winning rate will change when players change certain strategies," Professor Wu Yingcai, the main developer of the platform, told CCTV-2.
The Tokyo Olympic Games have seen not only scientific support in training, but many technologies in athletes' devices. For example, the Kenya women's volleyball team's GPS devices fed data on each player's blood pressure, heart rate and so on to coaches, who used the information to prevent injury and personalize training plans for each athlete. South China Morning Post reported.

(2021·安徽·高一阶段练习) Look at the keyboard of any standard typewriter or computer. “Q,”“W,”“E,”“R,”“T” and “Y” are the first six letters. Who decided on this arrangement of the letters And why
People tried for centuries to invent the typewriter. In 1714 in England, Henry Mill applied for a patent (专利) for a machine called An Artificial Machine or Method for the Impressing or Transcribing of Letters Singly or Progressively One After Another. That machine probably didn’t sell because no one could remember its name.
The first practical typewriter was patented in the United States in 1868 by Christopher Latham Sholes. His machine was known as the typewriter. It had a keyboard on which the letters were arranged in alphabetical order (按字母顺序).
But on the first model, his “ABC” key arrangement caused the keys to jam (拥堵) when the typist worked quickly. To solve the problem, he just kept the typist from typing too fast. Sholes asked his brother-in-law to rearrange the keyboard so that the letters used often were not so close together and the type bars (打字杆) would come from opposite directions. Thus they would not hit together and jam the machine. The new arrangement was QWERTY arrangement that typists use today. Of course, Sholes claimed that the new arrangement was scientific and would add speed and efficiency. But the only efficiency it added was to slow the typist down, since almost any word in the English language required the typist’s fingers to cover more distance on the keyboard.
The advantage of the typewriter outweighed (超过) the disadvantages of the typewriter keyboard, however. Typists memorized the crazy letter arrangement, and the typewriter became a huge success. By the time typists had memorized the new arrangement of letters and built up their speed, typewriter technology had improved, and the keys didn’t stick as badly as they had at first.
38.Who was the inventor of the first practical typewriter
A.Henry Mill. B.Sholes’ brother-in-law.
C.Christopher Latham Sholes. D.Henry Milts brother-in-law.
39.Why could the machine invented by Henry Hill not be sold
A.The keyboard had great disadvantages.
B.Perhaps the name of the machine was too long.
C.It was difficult for people to use it.
D.It hadn’t been patented by its inventor.
40.Why did Sholes decide on the QWERTY arrangement of the keyboard
A.To solve the problem of the keys jamming.
B.To compete with the “ABC” key arrangement.
C.To arrange the letters in alphabetical order.
D.To cause the keys to jam when the typist worked quickly.
41.What can be inferred from the QWERTY arrangement of the keyboard
A.It was easy for typists to memorize.
B.It could make the type bars move faster.
C.It kept the typist from typing too fast.
D.It could let the typist cover less distance on the keyboard.

(2021·广东东莞·高一阶段练习)Facebook has developed a kind of AI (人工智能) translating between any pair of 100 languages without depending on first translating to English.
Facebook’s system was trained on a data set of 7.5 billion sentence pairs collected from the web across 100 languages, though not all the languages had an equal number of sentence pairs. “What I was really interested in was cutting out English as a middle man. Globally there are plenty of countries where they speak two languages that aren’t English,” says Angela Fan of Facebook AI, who led the work.
For some language pairs, the new system shows prominent improvements in translation quality. For example, translating from Spanish to Portuguese is extremely strong because Spanish is the second-most spoken first language worldwide, meaning the researchers can get a lot of data. Translation between English and Belarusian (白俄罗斯语) also is improved because the AI can translate Russian into English, which shares similarities with Belarusian.
While the system isn’t in use on the social network site, Facebook plans to put it to work soon to manage the 20 billion translations made every day when people click “Translate” on posts (帖子) written in more than 160 languages. “Future work will be done on other languages,” says Fan, “especially for languages where we don’t have a lot of data, like South-East Asian and African languages.”
The work “breaks away from the English-centric models and tries to build more different models,” says Shelia Castilho of the ADAPT Centre at Dublin City University, Ireland. “That’s pretty new and different. But it’s hard to know if the AI does a right translation work,” says Castilho. “The users may not know the other language, so they cannot judge the correctness of the translation.”
42.What’s Angela Fan’s purpose of doing the research
A.To collect data of all kinds of people.
B.To make learning different languages easier.
C.To achieve her dream of becoming a translator.
D.To avoid using English as a middle man in translation.
43.Why is it easy to translate from Spanish to Portuguese by AI
A.There is much data on Spanish.
B.Portuguese is similar to Spanish.
C.Researchers have a good knowledge of the two languages.
D.Spanish is spoken by the largest number of people.
44.What is Castilho worried about
A.The safety of AI translation. B.The correctness of AI translation.
C.The way of using Facebook. D.The number of posts on the website.
45.What is the best title for the text
A.Facebook AI Can Talk with the Users
B.Facebook Wants to Buy a New System
C.Facebook AI Can Translate Any Pair of 100 Languages
D.Facebook Has Lost Many Users

Screen time becomes a particularly important issue when discussing children’s use of media. Experts now recommend children’s screen time should be limited to no more than 2 hours per day, including television and non—school related computer usage. 47.

49. First, never allow televisions and computers in your child’s bedroom. Avoid using television, video games, and computer time as a reward for good behavior. Provide plenty of other recreational activities for your child to enjoy and set a good example for your child with regard to your own media usage.
It’s important to serve as a model of healthy electronics use for your children. 50. Keeping the TV on for background noise all the time and scrolling (滚屏) through your phone any time will teach your child bad habits.

D.This is more time than they spend doing homework, or reading for pleasure.

But can you imagine printing food Some scientists are trying to create a new dining experience by doing this. They hope that having a 3D printer in the kitchen will become as common as the microwave or the fridge. Scientists say that they are easy to use: you simply have to choose what you want to eat and put the uncooked food ‘inks’ into the printer. You can also change the instructions to make the food exactly how you want it. This means that it would be very quick and easy to create tasty and healthy meals.
Using 3D printers to create your meals would also be saving the environment. There would be less need for traditional growing and transporting as food production would be much simpler. Printing food could also help people who are experiencing the swallowing disorder. They could make the printer to print softer foods so that they would not have trouble swallowing them.
However, some people think that a future of 3D -printed food would cause many problems. It could take away many jobs, including those for growing and transporting food. Likewise, traditional cafés and restaurants might lose business. Also, people are worrying about whether the printed food is nutritious: Is it really possible to get the nutrients we need from food based inks What’s more, cooking and eating together with family and friends has long been a traditional and enjoyable activity. (2021·江苏如皋·高一期中)A team of researchers has created a website—emojify.info, where the public can try outemotion recognition systems through their computer cameras. Researchers hope it can make the public know about the technology and promote discussions about its use.
“It is a form of facial recognition, but it goes further because rather than just identifying people, it claims to read our emotions and our inner feelings from our faces,” said Dr Alexa Hagerty, project lead and researcher at the University of Cambridge Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence and the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk.
Hagerty said many people were not aware of how common emotion recognition systems were, noting they were used in situations ranging from job hiring, to airport security and even to education to see if students are doing their homework. Such technology, she said, was in use all over the world, from Europe to the US and China.
However, Hagerty emphasized that emotion recognition technology might have some potential benefits, but these must be weighed against concerns around accuracy, human rights, as well as whether the technology was even the right tool for a particular job.
In one game, users are invited to pull a series of faces to fake emotions and see if the system is fooled. “It is said that the technology is reading emotions,” said Hagerty. But, she added, actually, the system was reading facial expressions and then combining them with the assumption that those movements are linked to emotions, for example, a smile means someone is happy. However, human experience showed it was possible to fake a smile. “That is what that game was: to show you didn't change your inner state of feeling rapidly six times, you just changed the way you looked on your face,” Hagerty said.
Some emotion recognition researchers say they are aware of such limitations. Vidushi Marda, senior programme officer at the human rights organization Article 19 said it was important to stop the growing market for emotion recognition systems. She said, by reading and classifying human beings into categories that touch upon the most personal aspects of humans, emotion recognition technology doesn't also agree with human rights, according to the organization's website.
“The important learning from the development and use of facial recognition systems across the world has been to question the validity and the necessity for technologies early and often, and projects that focus on the limitations and dangers of emotion recognition are an important step in that direction,” she said.
12.Why did researchers create emojify.info
A.To improve emotion recognition technology.
B.To bring emotion recognition into public daily life.
C.To draw public attention to emotion recognition technology.
D.To call for more researchers to study emotion recognition technology.
13.What does the third paragraph mainly focus on
A.The potentials of emotion recognition technology.
B.The wide use of emotion recognition technology.
C.The advantages of emotion recognition technology.
D.The rapid development of emotion recognition technology.
14.What can we learn about the website of emojify.info
A.It will often fool the users.
B.It can accurately read users' emotions.
C.It recognizes expressions rather than emotions.
D.It sounds an alarm when people fake a smile.
15.What does Vidushi Marda think of emotion recognition systems
A.A losing battle B.A quick-fix method
C.A high point D.A well-meant proposal

The printing, broadcasting and advertising industries are all involved with informing, educating and entertaining.

I fetched my mail as usual. Suddenly a colorful flyer (小传单) jumped into my sight. In the middle was a drawing of an old-fashioned phone, like the one my great-aunt Sara owned 40 years ago and at the bottom was a phone number. Running over it, I couldn’t help laughing.
“Is that mail funny ” my ten-year-old daughter, Jenny, asked.
“Not really,” I admitted. “It’s about the wake-up service. Outdated already.”
“What’s that ” she frowned (皱眉). I explained how, before smart phones, people sometimes paid someone to wake them with a call.
“Who sent this flyer ” she pressed.
I shook my head. “Probably someone older and he could need some money,” I said.
Her eyes lit up. “Can we order a wake-up service ” she asked.
“No kidding. With smart phones at hand, who will need it And it’s not cheap at all. $2.5 per day.” I picked up the flyer and headed for the recycling bin.
“Wait!” she shouted.
“I feel sorry for the wake-up man, if he needs some money,” she said in tears. “Can’t we order one ”
I looked at the flyer with its drawing of an old-fashioned phone. I remembered, again, my great-aunt Sara and her old phone. As a kid, I used to visit her on Labor Day when Jerry Lewis would host his charity(慈善) event for the disabled kids. Aunt Sara would grasp my hand tightly and then reach for the telephone, dialing the number on the screen. Holding the receiver between us, we’d announce to the operator, “We’d like to help those kids.”
But now here was my own child, showing the same heart I had once been encouraged to have, and how could I ignore (不理睬) her I googled the flyer’s telephone number. The number belonged to a man called Raymond.
Paragraph 1:
Jenny dialed the number.

本文为记叙文,文章主要介绍了美国宣布了一项计划来应对网络间谍和黑客的威胁。
16.根据上文“He said it is working with various states and government agencies.”可知,司法部正在与各州和政府机构合作。承接上文,C项“他们一起调查网络盗窃和网络犯罪并分享信息”切题,该选项的they与上文的司法部正在与各州和政府机构相呼应,故选C项。
17.根据前一句“And the attorney general called for increased co-operation with private companies.”可知,司法部部长呼吁加强与私营公司的合作。根据下文“He said: “A single trade secret ...out of business.可知,商业秘密价值不菲,一旦被偷窃损失巨大。”承上启下,G项“他讲了保守商业秘密的重要性”切题。该选项的he代指前一句的the attorney general,与后一句的he相呼应,故选G项。
18.根据后半句“aiming to protect America’s interests and benefits.”
19.根据前文“The plan was announced the day after the American information security company Mandiant published the findings of its investigation of cyber-attacks.”可知,在美国信息安全公司Mandiant公布调查网络攻击调查结果的第二天,美国公布了这个计划。承接上文,E选项“他们表明,自2006年以来,已有140多家公司遭到袭击”切题,该选项的they与上文的findings of its investigation of cyber-attacks相呼应,故选E项。
20.根据上文“The victims of cyber attack include some of the biggest private companies in the United States like Apple Computer, Facebook, Coca Cola and many others.”可知,网络攻击的受害者包括美国一些最大的私人公司,再结合下文“The attack areas range from satellites…the United States.”
比如第一小题中,选项的前一个句子关键线索就是various states and government agencies,而选项C中的有代词,将选项带进去后,发现逻辑通顺,they就是指代前文的it and various states and government agencies,故选C项。
