Ottens was busy with a reel-to-reel tape recorder(盘式磁带录音机) one night in the early 1960s, trying to listen to a work of classical music. He still remembered the hours he eventually spent on the machine because the loose tape would endlessly unravel(散开)from its reel. At the time, Ottens was head of product development at Philips's electronics factory in Belgium. The next morning, he gathered his team and insisted that they create something foolproof: The tape had to be enclosed, and the player had to fit in his jacket pocket.
Trying to imagine something that did not yet exist, Ottens used a small wooden block as the target for what the future of tape recording and playback should be. The "compact cassette" was made public to the world in 1963, and he advocated for Philips to license(批准)this new design to other producers for free, paving the way for cassettes to become a worldwide standard. Billions of cassettes were sold before his team jointly introduced the compact disc (CD) with Sony in 1982.
Ottens was an extraordinary man. As a child, he managed to build a radio that enabled his family to tune in to a London broadcaster that delivered speeches from exiled(流亡的))political leaders during the German occupation of the Netherlands in the 1940s.
Despite the remaking of the music industry in the digital and streaming age, the public's interest in cassettes has quickly grown in recent years. The return and growth of its popularity is believed to be driven by a mix of nostalgia(怀旧)and an appreciation for tapes' unique status as a format, which is flexible yet is also easily seen and touched.
In the 2017 film Cassette: a Documentary Mixtape, Ottens still seems surprised by the impact of the little device. "We knew it would be a success, "he says, "but not a revolution. "

Another tool to reduce the spread of the disease is developed within the platforms themselves. Cities can set a rider maximum per trip- informing drivers not to pick up any more than that set umber-functionally enforcing social distance on the rides.

When Paul Greenberg's son turned 12, he was asking for a smartphone of his own. He challenged Greenberg's reasons for why it wasn't a good idea, pointing out his dad's own addiction to his phone. That's when Greenberg decided to replace his smartphone with an old-fashioned flip phone and focus on spending time with his son.
Greenberg ended up writing a delightful book about the transition, called "Goodbye Phone, Hello World:60 Was to Disconnect from Tech and Reconnect to Joy"—but it's different from what you might expect. It's not an essay on the evils(罪恶)of technology, but a brief, and practical guide on how to live without a smart phone.
The book is divided into chapters that explore the various aspects of your life that will improve when you reallocate your time, such as finding a sense of purpose, strengthening mind and body, building better relationships with friends, family, and lovers, and healing the environment. But first, it opens with a message that our screen addiction is not so much a result of weakness, but rather a carefully invented plan by many computer scientists far more knowledgeable than we are about our own brains and nature:
"I wanted to tell my son that people aren't addicted to screens because they're lazy, but instead because billions of dollars have been invested to make this outcome unavoidable. When you look into your phone, you think it's just your two eyes looking at a screen. What's really happening is that 10, 000 programmers' eyes are looking back at you, following you, tailoring your environment so that you'll keep looking.
"However, you can quit, refuse to play the game; and when you do, doors of opportunity open all around. "
This book is a pleasure to read. Its briefness is purposely suited to people who have lost their attention span(持续时间), but wish to regain it. I know that when my kids get home from school later today, they won't see me on my phone. I'll leave it inside and take them out to play Frisbee. 32. What does the underlined word "transition" (in Paragraph 2) refer to
A. Say yes to flip phone, Say no to Smartphone.
B. Stop phone addiction, Set an example to children.
C. "Goodbye Phone, Hello World"-a delightful book.
D. Less time with smartphone, More time with children.
33. Which of the following topics is not covered in the book
A. interpersonal relationships B. environmental protection

A. Screen addiction is the direct result of people's weakness.
B. Screen addiction is a trick created by computer scientists.
C. Screen addiction is a sign of people's physical laziness.
D. Screen addiction is unavoidable and a waste of money.
35. What's the purpose of the passage

In fact, programming interviews frequently involve having to stand up in front of your potential coworkers at a whiteboard and solve logic or programming efficiency problems. Level designers and artists may have to talk about their work on a video project or in the same sort of environment. 39 you're not able to communicate with your potential colleagues, you may lose the chance at a job that you'd be perfect for.

"You're not so special" is a message sometimes delivered as an offence. It is at other times interpreted as tough 48, as in the speech by the American high-school teacher David McCullough. His aim was to urge students not to make themselves painful by struggling to prove they're the 49 of the universe.
Given almost any general definition of the term and all things being 50, of course you're 51 . Your intelligence probably normal. Without any value judgment, that's all the word "normal" and your taste in culture: chances are they're much less 52 or extreme than you think. Or to put it another way:53 you're special is just one more way in which you're normal, which explains why most people think they're above average at many things.

It's just a small, white envelope stuck among the branches of our Christmas tree. No name, no identification, just a short note inside which says what we have done to celebrate Christmas. It has stuck through the branches of our tree for the past 10 years or so.
It all began because my husband Mike hated Christmas—oh, not the true meaning of Christmas, but the commercial aspects of it—the overspending, the anxious running around at the last minute to get a tie for Uncle Harry and the dusting powder for Grandma—the gifts given in desperation because you couldn't think of anything else.
Knowing he felt this way, I decided one year to avoid the usual shirts, sweaters, ties, and so on. I reached for something special just for Mike. The idea came in an unusual way.
Our son Kevin, who was 12 that year, was wrestling(摔跤)at the junior level at the school he attended. Shortly before Christmas, there was a non-league match against a team supported by an inner-city church. These teenagers, dressed in sport shoes so ragged(破烂的)that shoestrings seemed to be the only thing holding them together, presented a sharp contrast(对 比) to our boys in their stylish blue and gold uniforms and new wrestling shoes. As the match began, I was alarmed to see that the other team was wrestling without headgear, a kind of light helmet designed to protect a wrestler's ears. Obviously, the poor team could not afford.
Well, we ended up defeating them. We took every weight class. And as each of their boys got up from the mat, he walked around in his rags with a kind of steet pride that couldn't acknowledge defeat.
Mike, seated beside me, shook his head sadly, "I wish just one of them could have won, "he said "They have a lot of potential, but losing like this could take the heart right out of them. "
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
Paragraph 1: That's when the idea for his present came.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2: For each Christmas, the envelope has become the tradition of our family.

Dear fellow students,
Nowadays the Internet has become an important platform for information and communication. In order to get rid of the ill manners online and make a good network environment, I do hope all of you can be civilized and responsible netizens in the following ways:
First, when communicating with others online, you are expected to show due respect. Second, watch out for warning signs when visiting a website to avoid spreading virus. Last, saying no to any pirated recordings makes sense.
Let's join our efforts to build a harmonious online community!

第二节
That's when the idea for his present came. The next day, I went to a sporting goods shop and bought a variety of wrestling headgear and shoes and sent them anonymously to the inner-city church. I hoped these Christmas presents would not only light up their day, but also help protect them against injuries. On Christmas Eve, I placed the envelope on the tree with a note inside telling Mike what I had done and that this was his gift from me. His smile was the brightest thing about Christmas.
For each Christmas, the envelope has become the tradition of our family. On Christmas morning, my son would stand with wide-eyed expectation as their dad lifted the envelope from the tree to reveal its contents. Over the years, I had done many good deeds, ranging from helping out in orphanage to caring for the elderly in nursing homes. Gradually, my son and husband followed suit. My envelope was joined by two more. The tradition has grown and someday will expand even further with our grandchildren.

A篇
Watch skillful hands do the work of the seasons。

第41题 B 根据下文可知,”that he thinks I'll like”也即他会向我推荐一些他认为我会喜欢的书或是产品。
第44题 B 根据前文表转折的“however”以及后文的"they have already collected so much of your data."
第48题 A 根据后文的解释,美国高校老师的演讲中提到了you're not so special这句话。

已经取得用has made
A.
Dear fellow students,
Nowadays, we have quick and easy access to information and communicate/interact with each other via /through the internet. However, the virtual world has also become a hotbed for uncivilized behaviors such as online bully or fraud (cheating / abuse / gossip/ rumor/scandal). Therefore, I call upon / appeal to all students to surf the internet in a civilized manner.
Here is how. Firstly, we need to use polite words such as ‘thank you, sorry to trouble, please,’ etc. on a regular basis to show others our respect and good online conducts. Secondly, use officially registered websites rather than unauthorized ones to keep online fishing or cheating at bay. Thirdly, once we spot any vulgar (obscene) or anti-social content, report it timely to the police or surveillance organizations so as to foster/promote a clean and unpolluted online environment.
Thanks for your cooperation.
