Main point : Enable students to have a better understanding of the whole passage.

Teaching procedures:
Step I Lead in
Task 1 The activity:Have a free talk with the students what they do on National Day
On the National Day , many people may prefer to go traveling for a break
1.Where have you been
2. How are you going
The students will talk about the destination the have arrived at on National Day.At the same time,they will talk about what they see and the way of transportation, they may travel along the river .
Task 2
Many people live beside a river. How do they make use of it in their daily life
The students get familiar with rivers. So the answer is easy. In a river, people can wash clothes, drink the water,irrigate their fields, people can travel along it. Then I will show the SS a picture of the Mekong River,and ask them to list the countries that it flows through:China Myanmar Vietnam Laos Thailand and Cambodia.
Purpose: stimulate the ss' interest ,let ss take part in discussion to develop ss' awareness of protecting the river and train their oral ability
Step II Fast reading
(Reading tips: Skim the whole passage quickly and silently and pay attention to the passage structure. Don’t worry about the details or new words.)
The activity:Match the main idea with the right paragraph
Para. 1 The geographical information of the river.
Para. 2 The plan of the schedule for the trip
Para. 3 The dream of cycling along the Mekong River
Purpose: to make sure the students to grasp the general idea and structure of the text and be prepared to get more information of the text
Step Ⅲ Careful reading
Task 1 ( Para 1 )
Ask the students to read the text quickly and answer the following questions:
1.What was their dream
2 .Who are Dao Wei and Yu Hang
3 .Who are Wang Kun and Wang Wei
4.Where is the source of the Mekong River and which sea does it enter
Task 2 ( Para 2 )
Read the second prograph and judge True or False

这节课是第三单元的阅读课。课文“Journey down the Mekong”讲述主人公王坤和姐姐王薇想骑山地车旅行,于是选定了沿着云南西部的澜沧江,也就是湄公河作为旅游路线。通过阅读,学生不仅能学到一些有关地理的单词和短语,训练他们的阅读技能,还要懂得如何做好旅行前的准备工作,例如选择自己感兴趣的旅游地点、确定旅行路线、通过查地图等了解沿途的相关信息。
本节课,通过学生完成任务的情况可以看出他们基本能读并知道一些有关地理的单词和短语的意思,而且通过任务学习训练了查读段落大意和细节信息的技能,并了解主人公的旅游计划。但是,由于准备不充分,这节课还是有很多不足之处。
1、导入:导入时教师没有马上放松地融入到课堂中,对课堂的掌控能力有待提高。例如在问“Where are you going ”时,学生听不懂不能回答,这时候老师可以引导他:“Are you going to Beijing or Shanghai ”,可能选择性问题对于学生来说会比较好理解。
2、阅读:阅读任务较多,没有抓住重点去分析。这篇课文的重点内容应该是第一和第三自然段——旅游计划和准备,教学重点在于通过任务型学习,引导学生按照时间先后顺序将第一和第三自然段整合起来,通过阅读学习如何制定旅游计划和做准备。另外,教师可以按照时间先后顺序,将主人公的旅游计划和准备用关键词(when、where、how、preparation…)的形式板书在黑板上,以便记忆和为后边的讨论提供帮助。
除了以上的不足之处,另外还存在一些问题。例如:课堂活动形式单一,没有很好地调动学生的积极性;读后讨论环节预留的时间不够充分;总结过于简单,没有让学生去回忆和思考。
