it 可以用作先行词作为句子的主语,而把句子的真正主语移到后面去, 可以移到后面的主语是:
不定式
句子的谓语可以是:
e.g. It is important to know your limitations. 知道自己的局限性是很重要的。
be + 名词;
e.g. It is a good idea to have a little notebook handy. 手边有个小笔记本是个好主意。be + 形容词;be + 介词短语;
e.g. It is against the law to do that. 这样做是违法的。
其他类型的谓语
e.g. It gives me great pleasure to see the movie. 观看电影让我很高兴。2) 动名词
用no good, no use, great fun, a new experience等名词作表语;
e.g. It is fun working for him. 为他工作很有意思。也可用某些形容词作表语;

Introduction
In this period, after the warming up, students will pre-reading the text by getting to know about the five keys for quitting. Then they shall be reading the text by a process of reading aloud to the recording, underlining and jotting down expressions, reading to decide on the type of writing and summary of the text and retelling the text. They will read beyond the text. And the class is to end by students having a test.
Three “Warming Up” designs are presented in this book for teachers’ reference. Computer and overhead projector may be used to aid the teaching and learning.

⑴Warming up by discussing
How are you, boys and girls? Today we shall read about smoking. Do you smoke? Do your parents smoke? Let’s fall into groups of four and discuss about the health effects of smoking. Let’s try to list all the possible problems that might be caused by smoking.
Tobacco use plays a role in many diseases which ultimately lead to death or disability. With over 4000 chemical compounds present in the inhaled smoke, several of which are known carcinogens, it's no wonder that the effects of smoking are so destructive.
What are the two big diseases you think of being related to smoking? Chances are they are lung cancer and emphysema, neither of which is the number one killer of smokers. Heart disease holds first place. Researchers report that worldwide, there were 1,690,000 premature deaths from cardiovascular disease among smokers in the year 2000. In contrast, there were “only” 850,000 lung cancer deaths from smoking in the same year.
⑵Warming up by listing steps to living a long healthy life
How are you today? Not fine? Why? Then before we take this new unit A healthy life, lets’ first think and list some steps to living a long healthy life.
Step 1: Give your body the energy it needs.
Step 2: Stay physically active.
Step 3: A healthy mind is part of a healthy body.
Step 4: Keep your mind and body free of harmful drugs and alcohol.
Step 5: Practice safe living habits
Step 6: Get regular health care.
⑶ Warming up by going over the vocabulary list
Be fore we read the text on page 18, we shall go over the vocabulary list for this unit on page 91. We shall make a story out of the words and expressions.
2. Pre-reading by getting to know about the five keys for quitting
Before you read the text I shall tell you how I managed to quit smoking years ago. I think there are five keys for quitting smoking, that is: Get ready. Get support. Learn new skills and behaviors. Get medication and use it correctly. Be prepared for relapse or difficult situations.
3. Reading
⑴Reading aloud to the recording
Please turn to page 19. Read the four discussion questions first. Keep them in mind. Now listen to and read to the recording of the text ADVICE FROM GRANDAD 爷爷的忠告. Pay attention to your pronunciation, making your reading aloud as close to the reader’s as possible.
⑵Underlining and jotting down expressions
Reading the text and jotting down useful expressions is a very effective way to learn English. Keep a running list of new expressions, and review it several times throughout the day. The key to learning vocabulary in a foreign language is review.
Try using your new words and expressions or phrases with your classmates or teachers. Ask them to repeat the words you have learned, so you can get used to hearing the ways other people pronounce them.
Now start reading the text and jotting down the expressions useful to you.

Chinese smokers burn 3 more cigarettes than world average

A recent survey carried out by China Horizon Research shows Chinese smokers burn 15.8 cigarettes per day, which is three more than the world average 13. The survey also tells us the number of male smokers is much larger.
Average money paid for each pack of cigarettes is 4.6 yuan. Zhejiang smokers are the most lavish with their habit. They averagely pay nine yuan for each pack, while Hunan smokers pay an average of three yuan per pack.
Most smokers' educational level is low. Eighty percent of them have only received a high school education or lower.

该句型中it 是形式主语,真正的主语是that 引导的主语从句,是主语从句最常见的一种结构。

该句型和3同属一个句型。that 后的从句中需用虚拟语气should + 动词原形(should 可省去)。

5. It is said (reported, learned....) that ... 据说(据报道,据悉……)
该句型中的it 仍是形式主语,真正主语是that 引导的主语从句。
It is said that he has come to Beijing.

6. It is suggested ( ordered ... ) that ... 据建议;有命令……
该句型同属上。主句中的过去分词表示请求,建议,命令等意,that 后的从句要用虚拟语气should + 动词原形(should 可省去)。

7. It is a pity ( a shame ... ) that ... 竟然……
该句型中,that后的从句一般用虚拟语气should + 动词原形(should可省去),表示出乎意料。没有这种意义时,则不用虚拟语气。

该句型中that 后的从句应该用虚拟语气,值得注意的是① 常用过去时态表示虚拟.② 有时也用should + 动词原形,should 不能省。

9. It is the first ( second ... ) time that ... 是……第一(二)次……
该句型要和上一个句型区别开来。该句型中的 that 从句不用虚拟语气,而用完成时态。至于用什么完成时态,由主句的谓语动词的时态决定。如果是一般现在时,后面从句用现在完成时态;如果是一般过去时,后面从句则用过去完成时态。该结构中 that 可以省去;it有时用 this 替换。

10. It is .... since ...
该句型主要用作处理瞬间动词的完成时,又要和表示一段时间的时间状语连用的问题。主句中是时间作表语,其时态是现在时或完成时,since 引导的从句通常是一般过去时态,而且是瞬间动词。如果主句是一般过去时,从句则用过去完成时。

11. It is ... when ... 当……的时候,是……
该句型中的 when 引导的是一个时间状语从句,主句中的 it 指时间,表语由具体的时间充当。It was 5 o’clock when he came here.
12. It be ... before ... ……才……;……就……
该句型主句中的 it 指时间, 主句中的时态常是将来一般时或过去时两种时态.主句中的表语多是long, not long , 3 days , 2 weeks 等表示时间段的词或短语。
It was quite a long time before he realized his mistake.
It will be not long before he finishes his job.
13. It happens (seems, looks, appears ) that... 碰巧……;看来……
该句型中it是形式主语,that 引导的是主语从句,主句中的happen , seem等词是不及物动词.

14. It takes sb. ... to do sth. 做……要花费某人……
该句型中的不定式是真正的主语,it是形式主语,句型中的直接宾语是时间。

该句型中的真正主语是动名词短语,主句中的表语可以是no good , ( not any good ) , no use , ( not any use )。

该句型中whether(if) 引导的从句是真正主语。

该句型中的不定式短语是真正主语,如果不定式的逻辑主语是由 of引起,主句中的形容词必须是能表示逻辑主语特征的形容词。常见的有: bad , brave , careless, clever , cruel , foolish , good (好心的), honest , horrible , kind , lazy , modest , naughty , nice(有教养的), polite, rude , silly , stupid , wise , wrong(错误的)等。 这个句型可以改写为:sb. is kind to do sth.

该句型同上。如果不定式的逻辑主语是由for引起,主句中的形容词通常是表示事情的重要性,紧迫性,频繁程度,难易,安全等情况的形容词。常见的形容词有:① important, necessary, natural ② easy , safe , common , normal , hard , difficult , dangerous , unusual, rare , impossible , pleasant等。
在①中的形容词作表语可以用从句改写, 如:
It is important for her to come to the party.
= It is important that she (should ) come to the party

该句型中it无意义。 as if 引导一个状语从句。如果与事实不相符合,则用虚拟语气.

Introduction
Language is learned to be used in and for communication. So in this period we shall have the students Warm up by discussing, read for facts about HIV/ AIDS, scan the text for information to answer the questions, read and underline, rewrite the text on page 22 and listen and tick answers. The class ends by students reading about symptoms of HIV/ AIDS.
Objectives
To help students read the passage “HIV/ AIDS: Are you at risk? on page 22
To help students use the language by listening, speaking and writing as well
Procedures
1. Warming up by discussing
The Red Ribbon symbol is used internationally to represent the fight against AIDS.

Morning class! Have you ever heard of HIV? What does it stand for?
HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. It is a retrovirus that infects the human immune system. HIV is the virus that causes AIDS.
Then how do people get HIV?
People can get HIV several ways:
Unprotected sex
Babies can get it from their mothers when they are born
Breast feeding
Getting blood (a blood transfusion)
Sharing needles

Symptoms of HIV/ AIDS 艾滋症状
HIV is transmitted by bodily fluids, such as blood, semen, breast milk, and vaginal secretions. It causes disease by infecting CD4+ T cells, a type of leukocyte (white blood cell) that normally coordinates the immune response to infection and cancer. When a person's CD4+ T cell count decreases sufficiently he or she is prone to a range of diseases that a healthy person's body is normally able to fight. These diseases include cancers and opportunistic infections, which are usually the cause of death in persons with AIDS. HIV may also infect brain cells, causing some neurological disorders.
