Step 1 Greeting and Lead-in
1. Check out the following pictures concerning certain proverbs.
2. Try to work out which words are missing, but keep your books closed.

1. Do you have a best friend? Why do you think that he or she is your best friend?

Please talk to your partner. And prepare yourselves to present your discussion in dialogue to the class. (Pay attention that each speaker should have more than three sentences to say.)

4. You and your best friend have romantic feelings toward the same person.
Attention
1. On one of the situations, please discuss in group of three.
2. One in the group should listen to the other two and then give a report and comment on what he/she hears.
(Pay attention that the reporter should first listen carefully and prepare to report to the class.)

Preview page 2,3 and find out the sticky situations that happen to Sarah and Andrew. Then write a short passage of more than 100 words on how to deal with them in a positive way.

本课设计思路：
本课为Welcome to the unit, 我在教学设计中有如下目的：其一是学生学习关于友谊的谚语。其二是引出学生对“与人相处”这一话题的兴趣，拓展他们的视野。其三是通过讨论、展示等活动锻炼学生听、说能力。其四，新课标指出在进一步发展学生基本语言运用能力的同时，着重提高学生用英语获取信息、处理信息、分析和解决问题的能力。本课在后半部分提出了一些朋友之间可能出现的问题，让学生讨论后提出解决方案。从而培养学生分析问题解决问题的能力。
本课步骤如下：
展示总图，以及相应的谚语，其下省去关键词。 如：The best mirror is ______. 引起学生的初步思考。
分别展示四幅图，以四种不同方式（如填空、问答等）结合图片引导学生理解四条谚语的涵义。
首次讨论，围绕课本上提出的三个问题进行讨论，之后让学生以对话的形式进行展示，并要求没人有三句话以上。
进一步介绍关于友谊的一些俗语，并辅以简单的问题引起学生思考，加深理解。
1. 由最后一个俗语“To get a good friend, you should first learn to be one.”引出问题“How to be a good friend？”。接着学生头脑风暴，答A good friend should ______. 2. 学生集体朗读一些好朋友的共性特点。
老师总结“朋友的好”，并且以问题导出朋友间可能出现的问题。
二次讨论：老师给出朋友之间可能出现的一些问题，（如：好友濒临某科不及格，希望你帮忙作弊等。）让学生选择其中一种情况围绕一下三个问题进行讨论

用三人小组讨论法，一人聆听另两人讨论，然后聆听这向全班展示。
家庭作业：1 读P95 Part B 2. 预习Reading部分，并找到文中两个人物所遇到的友情危机，然后思考并写一篇100字左右的解决方案。
估计问题和解决方案：
课时容量（加拓展部分）较大，要求内容展开速度稍快，学生可能出现注意力跟不上，兴趣低落等问题。
解决方法： 之一 从细节上做到每一步骤操作性很强，避免学生在某一步骤受阻。 如：在Picture Two中问题稍难，于是在问题后给出关键词帮助学生。
