I. Lead-in.
Look at some pictures about Yuanmingyuan (The Garden of Perfection and Brightness) and say something about them. Give chances to students show their knowledge about that period of history.
Discuss the following question
Should we rebuild Yuanmingyuan? Why (not)?
II. Sharing information
1. Ask one student to read the instructions to the class.
2. Organize students to discuss the four pictures .Encourage students to use the information that they collected before class to discuss the four pictures.
3. Organize students into small groups to discuss and try to find the answers to the questions:
1 .Which modern buildings in Nanjing do you think will be famous in 500 years?
2 .What should we do to protect historic sites?
III. Debate
Organize the class into two groups, and have a debate:
Should the policy be carried out strictly to conserve and protect archaeological sites, historic buildings and cultural relics during China’s rapid economic development ?
