Module 11 Body language
Unit 1 They touch noses!
一、教学目标
【知识能力目标】
1) 能正确使用下列单词和词组: kiss, shake hands, smile, German, British,
Japanese, Russian, hug, India, together, nod one’s head, each other...
2) 能听懂有关手势语的对话。
【情感态度目标】
1) 学习一些见面礼仪。
2) 了解西方国家的风土人情和习俗。
二、教学重难点
【教学重点】
能听懂有关在不同国家初次见面和表达问候时的手势语。
【教学难点】
中西方人们见面礼仪的差别;培养学生跨文化交际意识。
三、教学过程
Step 1 Leading-in
1. Review the key words about human body.
2. Learn the new words学习新词汇,播放词汇音频。
3. Shows some body action and ask students to guess the meaning.
老师自己或请两名同学上台表演,其他同学猜测肢体语言所传达的含义。
Step 2 Match
1. Ask the students to look at the pictures and say what body language they can see.
2. Match the pictures with the words and expression from the box.
Step 3 Listening
1. Play the tape, ask the students to listen and match the pictures with the nationality in Activity 2.
2. Work in pairs and check the right answers each other.
Step 4 Reading
1. Guide the students to listen to the conversation in Activity 3 and answer the question:
What so the people in China/US/India/New Zealand do when they meet
1) In China a. shake hands, kiss or hug each other
2) In the US b. shake hands, smile or nod heads
3) In India c. touch nose
4) In New Zealand d. put their hands together and nod their heads
2. Scanning
Scan the language and answer the questions:
1)Who will come to Linging’s school
2)What will Maori people do when they meet
3. Careful reading
Ask the students to read the dialogue carefully and complete the table with the correct form of the words from the box.
Step 5 Post-reading
1. Let the students act out the dialogue.
2. Show some pictures and things to organize the students to talk about them.
3. Have the students act out their new dialogues.
Step 6 listen and repeat
Listen to the recording and pay attention to the pronunciation.
Step 7 Group work
Make a conversation to talk about what you do and say when you meet.
—What do you do and say when you meet your teacher in the morning
—I smile and say good morning.
Step 8 Language points
1. … in Russia, people usually kiss three times, left, right, left.
kiss v. 吻,亲吻
eg. The mother kissed the sleeping baby on his head.
妈妈亲了一下这个睡着的婴儿的额头。
kiss n. 吻
eg. He threw me a kiss and went away. 他给了我一个飞吻,然后走开了。
2. That’s because people do different things in different countries.
That’s because …是一个常用句式,表示 “那是因为……”。
eg. That’s because you were not careful enough. 那是因为你不够仔细。
That’s because I didn’t know much about body language in this country.
那是因为我对这个国家的肢体语言了解不够。
3. They touch noses!
碰鼻礼是毛利人传统的打招呼方式,也是一种表达真挚问候的礼仪。行礼时,相互问候的两个人要鼻尖相碰,表示交换双方的呼吸,使之融合在一起。毛利人是新西兰的原住民,他们有自己独特的生活方式和文化。

【教学重点】
1)掌握本部分出现的生词和词组,达到熟练运用的目标。
2) 阅读短文,获得相关的信息。通过阅读练习,来提高阅读能力。
【教学难点】
掌握祈使句的用法
三、教学过程
Step 1 Revision and lead-in
1. Revise some words about body language.
2. Let one student act out body language, other students say out the words.
Step 2 Consolidate new words
Show the students some pictures and have a free talk between teacher and students, teach them the new words and expression.
Step 3 Match
Look at the pictures and match the parts of the body.
Step 4 Reading
1. Scanning
Ask the students to scan the passage and find out what it is about.
2. Listen to the tape carefully and answer the two questions.
1) Can we stand close to people in Middle East
2) Is it polite to wave to say goodbye in Greece
3. Careful reading
1) Let the students read Paragraphs 1and 2 and answer the question:
Is it all right to stand close to people in the Middle East
2) Read Para 3 and 4 and do the true or false questions:
a. The British like touching people.
b. Americans look at people when they talk.
3) Let the students listen to the tape again and answer the questions in Activity 2.
4) Let the students check(√) in the blanks on the table according to Activity 2. And then check the right answers in group.
5) Read the short passage, then fill in the blanks with the words from the box of Activity 4. And then the Students check the answers.
Step 5 Writing
1. Talk about your class rules
Work in groups. First, learn about your class rules, then talk about them in pairs.
2. Make a list of class rules for new student in your class
If a new student comes to your class this term, please make a list of class rules for him in your class.

arm in arm 臂挽臂地
eg. The two girls are good friends. They like to walk arm in arm.

hold 握住,抓住,过去式是held。

3. But in Britain many people don’t like other people to touch them at all.
not at all 一点也不,无论如何都不,用于疑问句和否定句,表示强调。
eg. They’ve done nothing at all. 他们什么也没做。
They obviously weren’t at all happy. 他们显然一点儿都不高兴。
4. In fact, it’s very rude!
in fact = in actual fact = as a matter of fact 事实上,实际上
eg. We live very close to you, in the same road in fact.
我们住的离你很近,其实在一条路上。
Step 7 Grammar
祈使句:
1.定义:用于表达命令、请求、劝告、警告、禁止等的句子叫作祈使句。
2.特点:
(1)祈使句没有主语,也可看作省略了主语you。
(2)祈使句以动词原形开头。
(3)祈使句的否定形式是在句首加Don’t。
(4)Please可以加在祈使句的句首,也可以加在句尾

一、教学目标

2)通过练习,进一步巩固对祈使句的应用

进一步了解不同国家的风土人情,体会文化礼仪差异,了解其他国家的基本礼仪。
二、教学重难点
【教学重点】
能用正确的祈使句给出书面指示语和建议
【教学难点】
能运用所学的知识和通过查资料,运用恰当的语言向他人介绍中国的身势语。
三、教学过程
Step 1 Revision and lead-in
Revise the sentences about body language. Ss should pay attention to the imperative sentence features.
Step 2 New words
bring的原形和过去式brought。
Step 3 Pair work
1. Ask the students to discuss what we should do and what we shouldn’t do in China.
2. Discuss what we can do and what we can’t do in Britain in pairs, then fill in the table.
Do’s Don’ts
Britain Stand in line. Shake hands. Say “please” and “thank you”. Open doors for others. Look at people when you talk. Be on time. Touch people. Ask a woman’s age. Stand too close. Say anything too personal.
Step 4 Make a list
List several rules visitors should obey in Britain according to what you have learned.
Step 5 Rewrite the sentence
First, let Ss look at the example. Then let Ss follow the example to finish the following five sentences. The main purpose is to master the imperative sentence.
Step 6 Answer the questions
Read the words in the box, then answer the questions using the words and expressions.
1. How do the British say hello to each other when they first meet
2. Does body language mean the same meaning in different countries
3. How do the Russians say hello to each other when they meet
4. Is it polite to stand close to North Americans
5. Is it all right to wave goodbye in Greece

Step 7 Module task
1. Work in pairs. As a Chinese, we have our own ways of saying hello and body language. Please talk about them in pairs.
2. After talking about the ways, you can write the information on your poster.
3. Collect some pictures from the newspaper and magazines and add them to the poster.
4. Show your poster to the whole class
Step 8 Summary
Let Ss talk about the use of the imperative sentence.
祈使句长表达以下语气:
Go and wash your hands. 快去洗手。(命令)
Be quiet, please. 请安静。(请求)
Be kind to our sister. 要对我们的妹妹友善。 (劝告)

在表达请求时,可以加上please;表达比较强烈的语气时,可以用感叹号。
