Li Hua
第四节 读后续写(共 1 题,满分 25 分)
Paragraph 1
Seeing the same fright in the boy's eyes, I quickly got out of my car. “Are you okay Your leg
Your foot ” I asked the same questions anxiously. The boy leaning on the bike shook his head
nervously and spoke nothing, just staring at me with his blue eyes wide open. I could see why. My car
was badly damaged at the rear, which obviously would cost me lots of money to repair it. I just smiled
and turned to check my car. Suddenly, the boy said something behind me.
Paragraph 2
The boy offered to give me some money for the damage. I turned around and looked at him in the
eyes and smiled again. “No worries, kid,” I said, “It is not a big deal. I can handle it myself.” The boy
was puzzled. “I experienced the same things when I was as your age and I was forgiven, so are you
now. Just go home and be careful.” I explained to him. An obvious surprise flashed across his face but
was quickly replaced by great relief. He got off his bike and bowed deeply, saying, “Thank you, sir.” I
smiled again, knowing that: A seed of kindness and forgiveness was planted.
听力原文材料:
Text 1
M: I never listen to the radio anyway. I can just check the weather on my phone.
W: I do the same thing. I never watch the weather forecast on television, either.
Text 2
W: Are you going to make it to the basketball game tonight I will be there right after debate team practice.
M: I can't. I have a big maths test tomorrow. I have to prepare for it.
Text 3
W: It looks like you're having a hard time with that programme, Larry. Why don't you use the method that I
gave in the class yesterday
M: I was absent. I'll ask one of my classmates to send it to me.
Text 4
W: If we want to win the game this Friday, we need to come up with a plan now. They beat us every year.
M: We need to use teamwork more. John is our best player, but we can't give him the ball every time.
Text 5
W: Excuse me. I'm trying to pay the parking, but all I have is dollar bills. Could you spare any change
M: I'm sorry, madam. But our store policy is not to give out change unless you buy something.
W: OK.
Text 6
W: Tim, I saw you running from the bus stop this morning. Your mother and father wouldn't be happy
seeing you do that.
M: I was late for school though.
W: You need to be more careful when you cross the street. You need to walk during the right time and in the
right places.
M: But I'm very fast.
W: Are you even listening to me It is dangerous. It is also against the law.
M: But I hate waiting for the lights to change and the cars to pass by. I don't want to be late.
W: It is important to obey the rules, but your safety is more important. I don't want to see anyone of my
students get hurt.
Text 7
W: Sorry, Jim. I won't be able to make it to the dinner tomorrow night. I'll be busy volunteering at the
library during that time.
M: That's interesting, Carol. Most people I know volunteer by collecting garbage or something. What do
you do at the library when you volunteer Are they short on employees who put away books
W: Nothing like that. I just read the children's books and act out some of the stories for them. It's very fun
and it doesn't take long, maybe one or two hours.
M: How often do you do that
W: I do it on Monday, Wednesday and Friday every week. You should come help me with it one time.
M: That sounds like fun. Can I pick the stories I want to read I hate to try and act out a story I never read.
W: You can read any book as long as it's on the library's list.
Text 8
M: I was reading about superfoods today. They are fruits, vegetables and other foods that are supposed to
be extra healthy.
W: That's interesting. Which foods are they I suppose rice is high on the list. We certainly eat a lot of that
here in China.
M: No, it isn't. Nor are noodles. But yogurt, fish and tomatoes are there.
W: Oh well, I suppose we eat plenty of them. Why are these foods so healthy
M: It's said that they can reduce the risks of high blood pressure, heart disease and certain cancers.
W: Maybe I will start including them in our meals. Are there any foods on the list that we don't have yet
M: Nuts and greens are something we already eat plenty of. And although our type of rice—the white
kind—isn't on the list, brown rice is.
W: Then I think we will switch to that to keep the family healthy. Superfoods sound like a very tasty way to
keep fit.
Text 9
M: I can't believe this. I have been on the phone with my bank all day and they still haven't fixed my
problem.
W: Is it a credit card problem
M: Yes. My credit card information was stolen. When I got my bill in the mail, I saw there were many
unfamiliar purchases on it.
W: That's terrible. Did they take a lot of money
M: Yes, and I am very upset because the bank is not helping me quickly. I have talked to many different
managers already.
W: Doesn't the bank's owner need to make the decision to give you your money back
M: No. I just have to prove that these purchases were not made by me.
W: I hope you can fix this problem soon. Something similar happened to my husband's mother recently.
She was tricked into giving away some important information over the phone.
M: I think the person who stole my information got it from the Internet. I bought a collection of movies
recently. I won't be doing that again unless the website is sure to be safe. It's honestly my fault for being
careless.
W: You can never be too careful. Well, your problem is inspiring me to look into protecting my account
better. I think I can pay my bank more to help me.
Text 10
W: Listen up, you two. We need to leave this house before the sun rises tomorrow. Your father will be home
soon from work and once he gets home, we will be packing our bags. We need you guys to do the same
thing tonight. I want everything you're going to bring put out in the living room before you go to bed.
Before you pack everything though, you need to put aside the clothes for tomorrow. I don't want to wait for
you to search for other clothes or to unpack your bag to get something. Our flight is at 7:00 am, and it will
take about a half hour to get to the airport from here. We'll probably need another hour to get through
security. Also, I know I said that we would go out for our meal tonight, but there is just too much to do. I
asked your father to pick up some Chinese food for dinner instead. I can't be bothered to cook something
since I just cleaned everything. If you want a specific dish at the restaurant, you will need to call your father.
Otherwise, he will just pick up something that we can all share. Are you clear on everything I said?2021 学年第一学期湖州市三贤联盟期中联考

A
There are people for whom the motivation lies in their family or companions' duties. For some people,
the purpose lies in a soul's spiritual awakening. Brent Clayton, a firefighter by profession, is one such
individual who found his purpose early in life and kept working to fulfill it.
Born on March 3, 1984, Clayton hugely felt the need to serve others. He followed his mission in life
and acquired his diploma in Public Safety. He gradually realized the importance of securing people's lives,
which strengthened his faith in his mission. Clayton further pursued his bachelor's degree from the
University of Melbourne and master's degree from Federation University. Then, Clayton worked in the
military for a period before moving into a role with the prison service as a prison guard, the youngest
person to ever be employed by the service at the time.
After spending a decade in the fire service including training and recruitment, he gained enough
experience to become Australia’s most prominent fire service recruitment expert. Clayton devoted many
years of his life to the firefighter recruitment process and fire service industry. He wanted people to realize
the true value of this profession by establishing its significance. To communicate his perspective, Clayton
established Fire Recruitment Australia in 2009. He aimed to train the next generation and prepare them for
the future. Clayton used his experience and years-long training to prepare candidates who were as
enthusiastic about the well-being of the world as him.
Keeping the point in mind, Clayton wrote the book Fire Service Recruitment—the Process to Success.
His idea was to join his learnings into an accessible medium so others didn't have to waste years wondering
what to do when applying to become a firefighter. After the success of the book, Clayton introduced
candidates to a comprehensive test preparation and learning suite to facilitate success throughout each stage
of the selection process. This platform helped him as well as his candidates to work together for the
betterment of themselves and ultimately society at large.
21. What made Clayton's belief stronger
A. The military experience. B. The support of his family.
C. The knowledge he learned from college. D. The significance of people's safety.
22. What does the underlined word “prominent” in paragraph 3 mean
A. Stubborn. B. Brave. C. Outstanding. D. Energetic.
23. Why did Clayton set up Fire Recruitment Australia
A. Because he could earn good reputation.
B. Because he wanted to perform academic researches.
C. Because he wanted to realize his dream of being a leader.
D. Because he hoped to get young people ready for future career.
B
Christy and Ted Wilson set aside time every Sunday evening to go over their shared to-do list. Most of
the items are tasks like scheduling doctor appointments and organizing play dates for their three young
children.
In every relationship, there’s a question of who is pulling their weight around the house. Now that a
majority of married-couple families have two working parents, the old “rough day at the office” excuse
doesn’t really cut it.
高二英语学科试题 第 3 页 共 8页
Women still handle more of the household activities, but men increasingly are spending time on food
preparation and cleanup. To keep things fair or at least to avoid fights, couples are turning to technology.
They are using project management apps designed for the workplace to divide up and track household
to-dos and reserving a portion of their date nights to compare chores. In some cases, they are even turning it
into a game, setting rewards for getting things done.
The imbalance doesn’t always follow gender lines (性别界线). There was a time when Mr. Wilson
was in more of a “Mr. Mom” role: He was attending business school, while Mrs. Wilson was clocking long
hours as a lawyer. So Mr. Wilson had more flexibility to take on more of the child-care and
household-management work. The couple’s roles changed after Mr. Wilson graduated and started an
e-commerce company. “We have had a lot of switching back and forth of who was in the driver’s seat in
terms of household management so one person wasn’t too put upon,” she said. They began using calendars
to keep the family schedules straight and sharing a to-do list in the Notes app on their phones. Each can
take on chores the other dislikes.
24. What does the underlined part “pulling their weight around the house” in Paragraph 2 probably mean
A. Sharing the burden of buying a house. B. Taking on the household chores.
C. Running around the house to lose weight. D. Making excuses for not doing any housework.
25. What can we infer from the Wilsons’ example
A. Gender plays a key role in management. B. Couples need to switch their roles each day.
C. Understanding can help solve problems. D. Digital apps can only handle household arguments.
26. What would be the best title for the text
A. Ways to finish housework. B. Advantages of the Notes app.
C. A family to-do list goes digital. D. Working parents face difficulties.
C
Tanaka Kane became the third person ever to turn 118, according to the Gerontology Research Group,
a team of academics. She is also the first citizen of Japan to reach 118—but is unlikely to be the last. The
country has the world's longest life expectancy, and 80,000 people aged at 100 years old or older.
The unusual longevity enjoyed in Japan is credited to diet. Japan largely banned meat for 1, 200 years,
and still consumes relatively little meat and dairy. Too much of these can be damaging, since they contain
saturated fatty acids(饱和脂肪酸),which correlate to heart disease. Studies have also tied eating lots of
processed red meat to a greater risk of stroke. But too little may be unwise as well, because they provide
chemical substance that may be needed for our blood-tube walls. In a study of 48,000 Britons, vegetarians
were unusually resistant to heart disease, but likely to suffer from strokes.
In theory, a lack of animal-based food could have contributed to Japan's historical cerebrovascular(脑
血管)death rate. In 1960-2013, as the country's deaths from strokes reduced, its annual meat intake rose
from near zero to 52kg per person (45% of America's level). Tsugane Shoichiro of the National Cancer
Centre in Tokyo says that his citizens may need meat and dairy to keep their blood tubes strong―though
not so much that those tubes get blocked.
Some evidence supports this view. One paper from the 1990s found that the parts of Japan where diets
had changed most also had the biggest drops in cerebrovascular death rate. Another study, which tracked
80,000 Japanese people in 1995-2009, showed that strokes were most common among those who ate the
least chops and cream. Although Japan's decline in cerebrovascular deaths could stem from other causes,
these data suggest that nutritional shifts may have helped.
高二英语学科试题 第 4 页 共 8页
The unhappy irony is that Japan's health gains, paired with a low birth rate, threaten its economy. By
2060, 40% of Japanese could be 60 or older. That would produce more birthday cakes with 118
candles—and fewer great-grandchildren to blow them out.
27. What is the purpose of the first paragraph
A. To introduce the topic. B. To provide evidence.
C. To promote an idea. D. To make comparison.
28. What message is conveyed in paragraph 2
A. Diet cures more than doctors. B. A light heart lives long.
C. Happiness lies first of all in health. D. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
29. What does the phrase “this view” in paragraph 4 refer to
A. It is common to suffer from strokes. B. It is vital to have meat and dairy.
C. It is beneficial to change diet habit. D. It is important to eat least cream.
30. What can be learned from the last paragraph
A. The less meat and dairy, the better. B. More cakes and candles are needed.
C. Medical demand for heart disease is met. D. Longevity and low birth rate affect economy.

阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
The other day, I was driving home, a little upset because I hated working at the weekend. On the way, I
decided to grab some veggies in the nearby greengrocer's. Since there was still thin ice on the road, I took a
glance at the rear mirror to make sure no pedestrians or vehicles came close, and slowly steered the wheel to
the right. Then out of any of my expectancy my car bumped into an electric bike, giving out a harsh metallic
clash. I collected myself and saw out of the window screen a boy lean on one side of the bike, one foot off the
ground.
All of a sudden, a familiar scene flashed across my mind.
When I was in high school, I had fun riding my bike along the country road on sweltering and boring
afternoons during summer holidays. Sometimes I carried my little brother to the only grocery store in the
neighborhood where we could buy our favorite ice cream. Once we had an argument about what to buy.
Seeing him leave the store in a temper, I jumped on the bike and tried to talk him into going back. Suddenly,
he gave me a push and I inclined towards the middle of the road when a motorbike came in my face. I fell on
the ground before I could see anything clearly. Luckily, I didn't get hurt but still couldn’t rise to my feet. The
motorist, a middle-aged man, ignoring his torn jeans, shed to check on me, “Are you okay Your leg Your
foot "
“I am all right, but..."I stared at him, terrified because I was sure he would ask for "big" sum of money
for damage. Instead, he just let me go despite his wife's protests. Guilty as I was, I was happy that I was
spared. I was really grateful to the man for forgiving a silly kid who had made such a big mistake
involuntarily.
