Great white sharks! Just hearing that name makes many people's hair stand on end. In reality, these big fish have more to fear from us than we do from them. For many years, people have killed countless great white sharks in the waters around the United States. But thanks to conservation(保护) efforts, great whites are making a comeback in the U. S. Two recent studies show that the population of these sharks is rising along the east and west coast.
"When you fish for too many of them, you start to lose balance in the environment," says shark researcher Tobey Curtis. As the biggest killer, sharks help keep the populations of fish, seals, and other creatures they eat from growing too large.
In spite of their importance, great white sharks had long been hunted for their meat and their fins(鳍). Then, in 1997, the U. S. government passed a law that didn't allow the hunting of great whites. Afterwards, the number of these sharks in the U. S. waters started to increase.
The law isn't the only thing that has helped great whites. Conservationists have also played a part in the sharks' comeback. The research group OCEARCH is using a method called tagging(给……加上标签) sharks to help change people's attitudes to great whites. They let the public follow each shark as it travels in the oceans. OCEARCH also gives each tagged shark a name to help people form a closer connection with the big fish.
The group's most well-known shark is named Katharine. She was tagged near Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Since then, thousands of people have tracked Katharine's movements on social media and the OCEARCH website.
This helps people see sharks in a new way. Chris Fischer, the founder of OCEARCH, believes learning to appreciate great whites will encourage people to do more to protect them.
1. The underlined part "makes many people's hair stand on end" in Paragraph 1 can be replaced by "_____".

C. The number of great whites is growing quickly.
D. OCEARCH helps people get closer to great whites.
4. What's the main purpose of the passage
A. To introduce an experimental result.
B. To make an advertisement for OCEARCH.
C. To remind us that great whites are dying out.
D. To inform us that great whites are making a comeback.

Global warming is the increase of the earth's average surface temperature due to the effect of greenhouse gases, for example, carbon dioxide, which traps heat that would otherwise escape from the earth. After the trees are cut down and more greenhouse gases are released, the "blanket" around the earth, called the ozone layer(臭氧层),will get thicker. This catches more heat and makes the earth hotter. Luckily, there are many things that every citizen of the earth can do to help reduce the effects of global warming, and it's never too late or too early for children to take action. Children should learn what a carbon footprint is. A carbon footprint is the amount of greenhouse gases people make as they lead the daily life and go about the normal activities. In other words, the carbon footprint is a measure of the environmental impact the life has. To live an environmentally friendly life that hardly contributes to global warming, people should make the fewest carbon footprints possible.
Almost everything people do contributes to global warming and is related to fossil fuel consumption. These things people do can be direct use of fossil fuels, like riding in a gasoline-powered car, or indirect contributions to greenhouse gases, such as eating fruit and vegetables that have to be shipped from faraway places to reach their tables.
If a child wants to make a contribution to reducing global warming, he should ride a bicycle to the near park, the school, his friend's house, or anywhere else not so far instead of taking a car. Or he may try to walk or jog, which is also helpful. In addition, although trains and buses often run on fossil fuels, on average, each person uses less energy and produces less pollution to take a train or a bus. Next time if children with their parents have to go around town or go to someplace too far to walk to or bike to, take a bus or other public transportation instead of riding a car.
1.What is the first paragraph mainly about
A.A brief description of the carbon footprint. B.The serious water pollution.
C.The protection of the ozone layer. D.The causes of global warming.
2.Which of the following can describe the carbon footprint
A.Useless. B.Expensive. C.Helpful. D.Attractive.
3.What can kids do if they want to help reduce global warming
A.Go to the near park by bus. B.Walk or cycle as much as possible.
C.Keep staying at home. D.Go around town with parents by car.
4.What can be the suitable title for the text
A.What can people do to use less energy B.How can kids help reduce global warming
C.How do carbon footprints measure pollution D.Why global warming affects humans' life
D
Humankind has tried to improve its standard of living since the very beginning of civilization. Back then, as well as today, providing food and security was the basic task for a person. However, nowadays the range of required goods has expanded significantly. People feel the need for not only some primary things, such as a piece of bread and a roof over their heads, but also for various facilities and luxuries. Providing humanity with these things is connected to the use of natural resources, which requires energy. In turn, the common sources of energy we use today cause pollution, so economic growth is almost inevitably associated with environmental damage.
Economic growth is the increase in numbers of goods and services produced over time by an economy, and it's calculated in terms of real Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Before growth is calculated, inflation(通货膨胀) is adjusted in order to take into account its misleading effect on the price of goods and services. Economic growth can also be explained as the increase in expected output, which results from an increase in actual output, or total demand.
There are certain aspects of economic growth which affect the environment. The first of these is the fact that in order to produce more goods and products, at a faster rate, the construction of large industrial plants is required. These plants produce a lot of waste, leading to the pollution of water and the atmosphere, which may cause negative long term health effects to nearby populations of animals, or people. They also lead to global warming.
Industrial manufacturing leads to the constantly increasing energy consumption. The traditional energy sources, which are commonly used nowadays, are considered to be the greatest polluters to the environment. There also exist so-called eco-friendly sources of energy. They are sometimes preferred but replacing the traditional sources with them also requires time, during which people have to make some sacrifices to support these undertakings.
In order to produce economically practical energy, a sometimes significant transformation of the natural site is often inevitable. This is expensive and, has harmful effects on the environment. Application of wind energy would Block airflows' natural speed, which is the reason for their decrease in strength, after crossing the windmill. Consequently, the pressure balance that is brought about by this current will be affected, and it is important to remember that the environment and weather conditions are directly affected by atmospheric pressure.
For these reasons, bringing about economic growth without any resulting environmental damage, whatsoever, is impossible.
1. What does the passage mainly talk about
A. Pollution caused by plant construction
B. Effects of windmills on the environment
C. Economic growth and human civilization
D. Economic growth and environmental damage
2. What does the underlined word "They" in the third paragraph refer to
A. Goods and products
B. The industrial plants
C. Water and atmosphere
D. Negative health effects
3. According to the passage, the author holds the opinion that _______.
A. economic growth should be calculated in terms of GDP
B. the use of natural resources causes no damage to the environment
C. industrial manufacturing may cause damage to the environment
D. a windmill is a perfect way to produce economically practical energy
4. Which of the following shows the structure of the passage

I was once unemployed. But I never let it affect our family. I kept the family together.
I pulled the car into the garage and got out, just like every night for the past 16 years. The difference was that I wouldn't have to go to work in the morning. I was an expert in technology for a national bank until it closed down. I'd put my heart and soul into my job. Not only did I work long hours, but I was on call 24 hours a day, weekends and holidays too. My kids joked that even though they were teenagers, I was the one who was absorbed in my cell phone and who had to be told not to text at the dinner table.
My wife, Michelle, had been able to go back to work full time as an office manager once we heard my job was threatened. But our three kids would go to college — our son, TJ, was a high school senior, and the girls, Sarah and Tara, were in ninth grade — and I wanted to give them the education and opportunities they deserved.
I stepped into our yard. The lawn and flower beds that my mom had tended so carefully were overgrown with weeds. There was a tree in the middle of the yard that I remembered my parents planting when I was a boy. It needed care. But I'd put on a lot of weight — no time to exercise with my crazy hours. I went up to the house. Michelle greeted me at the door with a hug. "It's going to be okay," she said. "Maybe you should think of this time as a break. You deserve one."
"I'm sorry, Dad," TJ said. "I know how much your job meant to you." His concern was mirrored on the girls' faces.
"I'll take care of this," I told them. "I'm going to work round the clock to find a new job and get our lives back to normal."
Paragraph 1:
The next morning I got up before everyone else to search.____________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The new lawn I'd planned for so long began to take shape and so did I.___________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

⑩考查名词。分析可知空格处在句中作介词of的宾语,需用名词,extinction是不可数名词,故填extinction。句意:而且一些物种也处于灭绝的危险中。

答案:Dear Peter,
I'm terribly sorry to hear that you are ill and in hospital. How are you feeling now
Our teacher told me you would be absent from school for half a month. Do relax and don't worry about your studies. I am going to visit you on the weekend and I am willing to help you with your schoolwork if necessary.
I miss you very much and wish you a quick and complete recovery.
Yours sincerely,

第二节
答案:Paragraph 1:
The next morning I got up before everyone else to search. I tried to find a new job online. I also e-mailed friends to ask for help. By midmorning the quiet of the house had driven me crazy. I missed the noise of the bank office. Then I saw those overgrown weeds and made my way to the lawn with tools. I settled into a new routine. Every day, I took breaks to do other things I'd neglected when I was working all the time.
Paragraph 2:
The new lawn I'd planned for so long began to take shape and so did I. There came some differences. With the physical labor, my weight dropped off, and I felt healthier than before. And I cleaned the empty family room completely. Soon TJ, Sarah and Tara brought their friends around after school. There were so many teenagers hanging out in our yard. At weekends and holidays, the five of us got around. Good things came in pairs. Soon I received an offer. And I found a balance between work and family.
