Teenagers’ fitness is now a major concern, to which physical exercise is very important. It reduces stress and improves fitness. Exercise makes your body strong, and helps you to keep the right body weight. Sports scientist Dr. Helen Lopez offers the following advice to teenagers: “first, you need to find out your present level of fitness. Then you can design a programme that will help you become healthier.”
Dr. Lopez suggests that there are three levels of fitness that need a change of lifestyle. “Overweight” means that the person gets very little exercise and often has a serious weight problem. “Inactive” means that the person does not join in many physical activities, but is not seriously overweight. “Active” refers to people who take part in sports and other physical activities, but are not at a high fitness level.
According to Dr. Lopez, overweight teenagers should keep active to keep healthy. “Ride a bike, play volleyball or basketball for a while, and go for a twenty- minute walk each day. All these will help to burn calories.” Inactive teenagers should do similar activities, but add some bending and stretching exercises, such as push-ups and sit-ups, starting with twenty each day. “Inactive people can take a little more exercise than overweight people because their bodies are stronger,” said Dr. Lopez. The same principle applies to active teenagers.
Dr. Lopez suggests one hour a week or more on running and other forms of intensive exercise (强化训练), together with fifteen minutes a day spent on stretching and bending activities. “These are really important in order to prevent injuries,” Dr. Lopez said. Some weight-training and other body-strengthening exercises could also be planned in the programme in order to increase the person’s strength.
24. Why is physical exercise important
A. It can make the teenagers grow taller.
B. It can help teenagers become healthier.
C. It can help teenagers to lose weight.
D. It can change teenagers’ lifestyles.
25. What can we learn from the passage
A. Active people are always at a high fitness level.
B. Overweight people always take more exercise.
C. Keeping fit means changing teenagers’ lifestyle.
D. Inactive teenagers are not seriously overweight.
26. In order to prevent injuries, what kind of exercise should you do

C. Riding. D. Weight-training.
27. What is the best title for the passage
A. Teenagers’ Fitness B. Doing Exercise

Learning Chinese could be one of the most important decisions you have ever made. Chinese is becoming the language to learn in the 21st century. With the world’ largest population and the rapidly growing middle class, China stands to become the engine(火车头) of the world’s economy in the coming years. This will make learning Chinese very important for people in many industries, or for those who wish to visit China or learn from its culture and history.
There is an ongoing effort to modernize the writing system and standardize the language. An increasing number of people learning Chinese are learning Mandarin, so unless you absolutely need to learn another dialect (such as Cantonese), be sure you are studying Mandarin.
For native English speakers, Chinese is one of the most difficult and most different languages to learn. The vocabulary is wholly unfamiliar and unlike anything we know. In addition, in the Chinese tone system, words are spoken in rising or falling tones, which help to distinguish them. Furthermore, there is the Chinese writing system — a collection of thousands of individual ideograms(表意文字),or symbols, which represent a word or an idea. These ideograms have no phonetic (语音的) value —that is to say, we can’t tell how the word is pronounced by how it is written. There is a method of presenting written Chinese in a phonetic script called pinyin. If you are learning Chinese, you’ll be working with this pinyin system, but the beauty of the traditional writing system shouldn’t be passed up. All these factors make learning Chinese difficult for us. Yet, for a determined learner, there’s always a way to overcome the difficulties.
28. Why is learning Chinese becoming more and more important
A. Chinese engines are very welcome.
B. China has the world’s largest population.
C. There are more and more rich people in China.
D. China is becoming more and more important to the world’s economy.
29. What can we learn from the text
A. The author thinks Chinese is as difficult as English.
B. The author is interested in the Chinese language and its culture.
C. Foreign languages can play a great role in industrial development.
D. As long as the pinyin system is learned well, one can learn Chinese well.
30. What’s the last paragraph mainly about
A. The difficulties of learning Chinese.
B. The advantages of learning Chinese.
C. The Chinese tone system.
D. The Chinese writing system.
31. What would be probably written following this text
A. The sources of Chinese characters.
B .The importance of learning Chinese.
C. The advice on how to learn Chinese.
D. The difficulties of learning other languages.
D
If it had not been for Fan Jinshi and her team, the world cultural heritage of Dunhuang Mogao Caves in a remote Chinese desert might have long been destroyed by sand, weather or humans.
Born in Beijing and raised in Shanghai, Fan has spent half a century fighting an uphill battle to preserve the ancient Buddhist wall paintings at Dunhuang, in Northwest China’s Gansu Province. The 1,653-year-old Dunhuang Mogao Caves are a huge collection of Buddhist art—more than 2,000 buddha figures and 45,000 square metres of paintings spread among 735 caves. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Archaeologist Fan was sent to Dunhuang after graduating from Peking University in 1963. While in Dunhuang, a remote village in the desert then, Fan lived in an abandoned temple. At first, she did not even dare to go out to the toilet at night. To protect the treasures from sand and dampness, Fan and other workers put doors on the caves, planted trees and started monitoring temperature and humidity in the caves. They also controlled the number of visitors.
In the late 1990s, with tourism booming nationwide since national holidays were extended, the local government planned to go public with Dunhuang Mogao Caves, but found Fan firmly in their way. “The heritage would have been destroyed if it had been listed,” she said.
Dunhuang Academy has now photographed and cataloged online all the sculptures and paintings. “Despite our efforts to minimize damage, we can’t completely stop them from being eroded. But the digital database will last.”
Fan was grateful when her husband joined her in Dunhuang in 1986 after 19 years of separation. Her two sons grew up seldom with her accompany. “I have not been a good mother or wife. With regard to my family. I’m full of guilt,” she said. Fan, 81, retired four years ago as the director of Dunhuang Academy but continues her efforts as a national political adviser.
32.When was Fan separated from her husband
A. In 1967. B. In 1963. C. In 1986. D. In the late 1990s.
33. What does the phrase “in their way” in Paragraph 4 mean
A. Go to a place. B. Be in favour of something.
C. Not agree. D. Give in to something.
34. What is the passage mainly about
A. The history of Dunhuang Mogao Caves.
B. The attractions of Dunhuang Mogao Caves.
C. Fan’s contributions to preserving Dunhuang Mogao Caves.
D. The appeal (呼吁) for the protection of Dunhuang Mogao Caves.
35. What kind of person do you think Fan is?

If your clothes catch fire, what should you do
Your clothes could catch fire during a fire or by accident if you step too close to a candle. If this happens, don’t run! Instead, stop, drop to the ground, cover your face with your hands, and roll. This will cut off the air and put out the flames. 40
