A
Farmers might think the idea of growing food for fun sounds strange. But there are some people who do it all the time. They grow some vegetables because their natural color or shape is pleasing to see. They grow others because scientists have developed new colors or different sizes for traditional vegetables.
One example is the bell pepper. Seed companies sell seeds for several different kinds of bell peppers. One pepper is a weak yellow color when it begins to grow. Then its color changes to white. As it grows, it changes color two more times—to orange, then red. If you are not interested in peppers that change colors as they grow, you can grow some that remain on color. Each kind of pepper has its own special taste.
Another unusual plant is known as the yard long bean or snake bean. It grows up to one meter in length. It is an important part of the food supply in areas of Asia. American farmers like it because it is different, yet tastes very much like the green beans they traditionally grow. Each bean has from ten to twenty seeds. The outside or pod can be eaten. Some of the very long beans are green outside but have black and white or red seeds.
Gourds (葫芦) are plants that people like to grow because of their many different shapes. They also have many uses. Some round gourds are dried, painted and made into containers. Others have long necks and big bodies. These are dried, cut and made into containers to pour drinking water.

根据最后一段“Gourds (葫芦) are plants that people like to grow because of their many different shapes. They also have many uses.”
2.People grow the bell pepper mainly to enjoy its ________.
A.shapes B.colors
C.flavors D.vitamins
根据第二段“As it grows,it changes color two more times—to orange, then red.”(随着它的生长,颜色再变两次——变为橙色,再变为红色。)

Finding fruits and vegetables at your typical grocery store that have been grown without the extensive use of pesticides can be difficult. Fortunately, The Environmental Working Group(EWG) has done all of the work for you in finding healthy and pesticide free produce.
EWG has created the 2018 Shopper's Guide to Pesticides in Produce, which helps shoppers to find uncontaminated (未污染的) produce. Many consumers do not realize that pesticide residues (残留) are very common on conventionally grown products, even after they have been washed or peeled. Because of this, EWG has created their series of guides to lead consumers to safer food choices.
In order to create these guides, EWG analyzed the USDA pesticides tests, which found a total of 230 different pesticides and pesticides breakdown products on thousands of produce samples. Analyzing this information, EWG observed the big differences of the amount of pesticides found from product to product.
The guide's two main components are two compiled lists highlighting the cleanest and dirtiest produce concerning pesticides. These two lists, Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen, show consumers how certain foods continue to carry trace amounts of pesticides with them all the way to the grocery store shelves, while others make it to your kitchen virtually pesticide free.
Some of the highlights from their analyses included the following findings:
●More than one third of strawberry samples analyzed in 2016 contained 10 or more pesticide residues and breakdown products.
●Spinach(菠菜) samples had, on average, almost twice as much pesticide residue by weight, compared to any other crop.
●No single fruit sample from the Clean Fifteen tested positive for more than four pesticides.
“With EWG's guide, consumers can fill their fridges and fruit bowls with plenty of healthy conventional and organic produce that isn't contaminated with multiple pesticide residue” said Sonya Lunder, a senior analyst in EWG.
Only 25 years ago, the National Academy of Sciences raised concerns about exposure to poisonous pesticides in our food, yet consumers still consume a mixture of pesticides every day in America.
4.Why did EWG create the 2018 Shopper's Guide to Pesticides in Produce
A.To advertise organic produce.
B.To warn some food companies.
C.To analyze the USDA pesticides tests.
D.To help consumers make safer choices.
根据第二段中的“EWG has created the 2018 Shopper's Guide to Pesticides in Produce, which helps shoppers to find uncontaminated(未污染的)produce...Because of this, EWG has created their series of guides to lead consumers to safer food choices.”
5.What is the result from the analysis of the USDA pesticides tests
A.All the samples are polluted.
B.230 pesticides are banned.
C.Pesticide amounts vary in products.
D.All strawberries are poisonous.
Analyzing this information, EWG observed the big differences of the amount of pesticides from product to product可知答案, 故选C。
6.Where are shoppers most likely to find spinach
A.Dirty Dozen list.
B.Organic food advertisement.
C.Clean Fifteen list.
D.Safer food list.
答案:A
7.What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs
A.All conventional produce is safe.
B.No pesticides were used on crops 25 years ago.
C.Consumers never worry about pesticides.
D.Produce safety remains a problem.
故A、B都错。
