A
It takes a special person to travel with kids—a parent.Children have their own needs.Their idea of a vacation is more“adventurous”than a parent's.They need constant inspiration and they can get as tired as they are tiring.
Make sure you have plenty of room while traveling
If you are driving, get a mini van.Sure, you might be more of a “car” type, and you might have resisted buying a mini van so far.But pick up a rental van for the vacation just to give the kids a little more room for fighting.
Accommodations along the way can be tricky.Usually it involves a crowded motel for just long enough to sleep, then back in the crowded car. This is not anybody's idea of a home away from home.An accommodation alternative is to camp, but not everyone enjoys a good early morning wake up wrestle with a bear as much as I do,so a motel might be required.
Make sure you have plenty of room when you“get there”
Assuming you are actually heading for a destination, make sure to have lots of room when you get there. This part is easy. But it requires thinking outside the box.Forget hotels, motels, and inns.Look for private rental homes.
Probably the biggest destination for families is Walt Disney World in Florida.Good news—Orlando,Kissimmee and the surrounding area is full of private vacation homes for rent.In Florida they call them vacation villas, and they offer all the space of home.
Be prepared for“children being children”events
Sometimes, stress hits you from behind when the unexpected happens.Like a cut or a scrape...or a child getting sick.Sharon Baillie told me that is why she tells all her villa rental guests where the first aid case can be found, and exactly where to go for medical attention. This is particularly helpful for her many guests from abroad, who are unfamiliar with the US healthcare system.
Booking tickets to theme parks and making reservations for just about everything in advance makes the trip less stressful.Try having your children babysat.Hire a local babysitter once or twice.Vacation Home owners can set this up for you,and some hotels might be willing to,too.
1.Where does the author prefer to rest on the way to the destination
A.In a camp. B.In a mini van.
C.At a motel. D.In a car.
答案:A
Make sure you have plenty of room while traveling部分的An accommodation alternative is to camp, but not everyone enjoys a good early morning wake up wrestle with a bear as much as I do,so a motel might be required.(一种住宿选择是露营,但并不是每个人都像我一样喜欢早起与熊搏斗,所以可能需要一个汽车旅馆)可推知,在去目的地的路上作者更愿意在帐篷里休息。
2.What does the underlined word“this”in the last paragraph refer to
A.Booking tickets in advance.
B.Hiring a babysitter.
C.Making reservations ahead of time.
D.Looking for a tour guide.
Hire a local babysitter once or twice.(雇用一两次当地的保姆)及画线词所在句Vacation Home owners can set this up for you,and some hotels might be willing to,too.(度假屋的主人可以为你安排这个,一些酒店可能也愿意)可知,this指的是雇用当地保姆这件事。
3.What is the purpose of the passage
A.To introduce ways of travelling.
B.To advertise vacation homes for tourists.
C.To reduce the stress while traveling abroad.
D.To show how to travel comfortably with kids.
B
So often I hear people justify(为……辩解)their lack of family trips because their children are not old enough to remember them. This reason is so confusing to me. Who would travel based on another person's memory
Of course the kids aren't going to remember anything in infancy (婴儿期), but you will. You will remember all the sweet memories you had with them.
My parents would take me to Guatemala as a child. I don't remember a lot about the trip, but I do know that when I went back as a young adult, I felt comfortable in my surroundings. I didn't spend my time there discovering a new way of life. I spent the time having fun with my family. I love looking at pictures that we took together when I was my son's age. I don't remember them, but that's not the point. The point is, I was there with my family, and I know I was happy.
Now that I'm a parent, I can't help but do the same. Last year, we took our 2 year old son to Disney alongside his great grandmother. His great grandmother had recently begun to suffer from Alzheimer's. That trip was timed in the most magical way—right before my son was old enough to remember it and right before his great grandmother began to forget. This makes me want to cry for them both. How did we get so lucky to have this moment to share with each other before big changes influenced our family forever
Realistically speaking, many families do not have the opportunity to travel internationally or visit pricey theme parks. I understand this more than you know, but I'm talking beyond that. They are young but these forgettable moments are still changing them. They will shape your children into who they will be tomorrow. The memories we absorb as their parents are also as influential as we have not finished learning our truths either.
4.Why do some parents go on few family trips
A.They have no time.
B.They cannot afford them.
C.They are not interested in them.
D.They think their kids won't remember them.
由第一段中的 “So often I hear people justify(为……辩解)their lack of family trips because their children are not old enough to remember them.”
5.What's the author's impression of her childhood trip to Guatemala
A.Clear. B.Boring.
C.Pleasing. D.Hard.
由第三段中的“My parents would take me to Guatemala as a child. I don't remember a lot about the trip...The point is, I was there with my family, and I know I was happy.”
6.Which influenced the author to plan the Disney trip
A.Her son. B.Her parents.
C.Some old photos. D.Other parents' ideas.
根据第三段中的“My parents would take me to Guatemala as a child”以及第四段中的“Now that I'm a parent, I can't help but do the same”可知,小时候,父母会带我去危地马拉。
7.Why did the author want to cry when recalling the Disney trip
A.She was sorry for her grandmother's disease.
B.She was worried about big family changes.
C.She was moved by the timing of the trip.
D.She was surprised by her son's growth.
由第四段中“That trip was timed in the most magical way—right before my son was old enough to remember it and right before his great grandmother began to forget. This makes me want to cry for them both. How did we get so lucky to have this moment to share with each other before big changes influenced our family forever?”
Summer is the perfect time to relax. As you plan for your trip, here are some tips on how to protect yourself. __1__
Fight against the mosquitoes in the hot spots.
There are many mosquito borne illnesses in tropical regions, which are traditionally vacation hot spots. Therefore, mosquito repellent(驱蚊剂)that contains DEET should be an essential item in your travel bag.
__2__
In lesser developed countries there is less equipment for clean water and public health. If you can't avoid unhealthful water, make sure you bring along a tea or coffee—making pot that will boil water for you. You'd better buy a case or two of water and check that all bottle caps are sealed to assure the bottled water isn't just a refilled bottle of dirty tap water.
Always protect your feet.
It's best to wear slippers in the shower, but if you must be barefoot, put a towel down on the floor. __3__ You should never walk barefoot in any area of a foreign country, including your hotel room.
Be sure to eat safe fruits.
__4__ They may have been washed in the same water, or wiped with the same rag used to clean work surfaces in kitchens. The best advice is to bring your own peeler (削皮器) so that you know that something clean has been applied to the fruit.
Enjoy the smell of roadside stands, not the food.
Unless the food is piping hot when served, it's best to stay away from roadside stands, no matter how good the smell of the food might be. If you are concerned about whether a restaurant is clean, order the food to go. __5__
A.Don't trust the local water.
B.Any fruit served fresh may be polluted.

D.The boxes may be cleaner than the plate or fork on the table.
E.You should know how to keep yourself away from dirty fruits.
F.They are necessary to avoid coming back with a major illness from your trip.

A
It takes a special person to travel with kids—a parent.Children have their own needs.Their idea of a vacation is more“adventurous”than a parent's.They need constant inspiration and they can get as tired as they are tiring.

5.What's the author's impression of her childhood trip to Guatemala
A.Clear. B.Boring.
C.Pleasing. D.Hard.
6.Which influenced the author to plan the Disney trip
A.Her son. B.Her parents.
C.Some old photos. D.Other parents' ideas.
7.Why did the author want to cry when recalling the Disney trip
A.She was sorry for her grandmother's disease.
B.She was worried about big family changes.
C.She was moved by the timing of the trip.
D.She was surprised by her son's growth.
