单元素养评估卷
第一部分 阅读(共两节, 满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分, 满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文, 从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
It takes a special person to travel with kids—a parent.Children have their own needs.Their idea of a vacation is more“adventurous”than a parent's.They need constant inspiration and they can get as tired as they are tiring.
Make sure you have plenty of room while traveling
If you are driving, get a mini van.Sure, you might be more of a “car” type, and you might have resisted buying a mini van so far.But pick up a rental van for the vacation just to give the kids a little more room for fighting.
Accommodations along the way can be tricky.Usually it involves a crowded motel for just long enough to sleep, then back in the crowded car. This is not anybody's idea of a home away from home.An accommodation alternative is to camp, but not everyone enjoys a good early morning wake up wrestle with a bear as much as I do,so a motel might be required.
Make sure you have plenty of room when you“get there”
Assuming you are actually heading for a destination, make sure to have lots of room when you get there. This part is easy. But it requires thinking outside the box.Forget hotels, motels, and inns.Look for private rental homes.
Probably the biggest destination for families is Walt Disney World in Florida.Good news—Orlando,Kissimmee and the surrounding area is full of private vacation homes for rent.In Florida they call them vacation villas, and they offer all the space of home.
Be prepared for“children being children”events
Sometimes, stress hits you from behind when the unexpected happens.Like a cut or a scrape...or a child getting sick.Sharon Baillie told me that is why she tells all her villa rental guests where the first aid case can be found, and exactly where to go for medical attention. This is particularly helpful for her many guests from abroad, who are unfamiliar with the US healthcare system.
Booking tickets to theme parks and making reservations for just about everything in advance makes the trip less stressful.Try having your children babysat.Hire a local babysitter once or twice.Vacation Home owners can set this up for you,and some hotels might be willing to,too.
1.Where does the author prefer to rest on the way to the destination
A.In a camp. B.In a mini van.
C.At a motel. D.In a car.
2.What does the underlined word“this”in the last paragraph refer to
A.Booking tickets in advance.
B.Hiring a babysitter.
C.Making reservations ahead of time.
D.Looking for a tour guide.
3.What is the purpose of the passage
A.To introduce ways of travelling.
B.To advertise vacation homes for tourists.
C.To reduce the stress while traveling abroad.
D.To show how to travel comfortably with kids.

If you are planning on travelling, there are a few simple rules about how to make life easier both before and after your journey.
First of all, always check and double check departure (出发) time. It is surprising how few people really do this carefully. Once I arrived at the airport a few minutes after ten. My secretary had got the ticket for me and I thought she had said that the plane left at 10:50. When I arrived at the airport, the person at the departure desk told me that my flight was closed. Therefore, I had to wait three hours for the next one and missed an important meeting.
The second rule is to remember that even in this age of credit cards, it is still important to have some local money in cash (现金). Once I arrived at a place at midnight and the bank at the airport was closed. The only way to get to my hotel was by taxi, but because I had no dollars, I offered to pay in pounds instead. “Listen! I only take real money!” the driver said angrily. You can imagine how terrible I felt at that moment.
The last rule is to find out as much as you can about the weather at your destination (目的地) before you leave. I feel sorry for some of my workmates who travel in heavy suits and raincoats in May, when it is still fairly cool in London or Manchester, to places like Athens, Rome or Madrid, where it is already beginning to get quite warm during the day.
4.Where is the writer most probably from
A.Britain. B.The USA.
C.Italy. D.Greece.
5.When the writer found he had no dollars to pay the taxi driver, he ________.
A.asked the driver to give him a free ride
B.offered to pay in pounds
C.gave the driver some fake (假的) money
D.tried to pay by credit card
6.Generally, in May the weather in London is ________.
A.warm and dry B.cold and dry
C.hot and wet D.cool and rainy
7.The writer mainly tells us ________.
A.how to make life easier
B.how to be well prepared for a trip
C.how to enjoy ourselves on the trip
D.how to schedule our trip
C
When leaving school, I was pleased that my exam results meant that I could study engineering at university. But I also wanted to travel before starting my course. A friend of mine told me about the Schools Exploring Society, an organisation which helps students take a gap year (a year between leaving school and going to college). It has three foreign journeys a year, taking 16 20 year olds on science and nature trips. I love being outdoors, and a mountaineering trip to Alaska was on offer. So I signed up (报名) immediately.
There was one problem, though. I had to raise a large amount of money for the trip. It was a big task, but I managed to make it. I washed cars, worked in a café and also sold off some of my old books, clothes and CDs. Then, just before starting out, I started worrying. Can I do this Am I fit enough What if I see a bear
Seventy of us travelled to Alaska. The first two days after arrival were spent in a school hall preparing our equipment and five tons of food. Then we left for the beautiful Talkeetna Mountain. On the trip we dug paths and recognised plant species. Then we climbed a mountain that was over 6,000 feet high. It was tiring but exciting.
Looking back, a gap year was so right for me. I learned a lot about accepting other people for what they are. We had to help each other and it made me less selfish. My gap year has also made me more able to concentrate (专心). Now, whenever I'm worried about anything, I think I did Alaska—I can do this!
8.We can learn from Paragraph 1 that the author ________.
A.hadn't taken foreign trips before
B.made the trip together with his friends
C.was not satisfied with his exam results
D.was going to study engineering at a college
9.What was the problem for the author
A.His body was not strong.
B.He couldn't afford the trip.
C.He had no outdoor experience.
D.He had little time to prepare for the trip.
10.The author may agree that his gap year ________.
A.was well worth it
B.got him interested in plants
C.made him fall behind others in study
D.helped him know more about himself
11.What might be the author's purpose in writing the text
A.To explain how to prepare for trips.
B.To advise on how to spend a gap year.
C.To describe his experience in his gap year.
D.To encourage students to do part time work.
 D
I have traveled to many places—the jungles where the water is unsafe;places with the wildest animals. Friends always ask why I,a middle aged woman with no athletic talent,go to such places. I never know how to answer—just I want to put my toes in the mud of adventure.
I stopped traveling nine years ago after I suffered a stroke (中风)caused by a disease, APS. To prevent another stroke, my doctors told me that traveling to remote places without medical help would be risky. A slip on a damp temple step, even a slight traffic accident, would no longer be mere annoyances.
My return to travel after my stroke came in baby steps—a feast in Texas;a visit to my mom in Virginia. They all came back, the freedom, the excitement and the fresh air.
The first real test of my travel courage came nine months after my stroke when I joined my husband in visiting China. After we had toured a temple, Jack wanted to ride down on a toboggan (平底雪橇).Before the stroke it would have seemed like fun for me. But now I stepped back. I feared. My mind screamed warnings of a fall or a crash. Then gathering confidence from nowhere,I lowered myself and took the flying toboggan ride, which marked my adventure travel's coming back. Since then, I've dared to take challenges and have challenged many places.
But I watch my medicine like an eagle. I get my blood tested. I weigh the risks. Then, if I decide it's okay, like that toboggan ride down the mountain, I just jump in, let go and enjoy the ride. I think I travel for hoping to broaden my world and keep me connected with friends and families. Most of all, saying “yes” to travel is related to my APS. If I let myself be afraid to travel, then my APS will win.
12.How do the author' friends react to her adventures
A.They try to stop her.
B.They don't understand her.
C.They admire her.
D.They are inspired.
13.What do we know about the author's return to travel
A.She followed her doctor's advice.
B.She gradually overcame challenges.
C.She was encouraged by her husband.
D.She got more enthusiastic about toboggan.
14.What does the visit in China mean to the author
A.A turning point. B.A fun experience.
C.A health alarm. D.A life and death test.
15.What's the main reason for the author to continue her adventures now
A.To relax herself.
B.To broaden her mind.
C.To keep herself connected.
D.To fight her disease.

I had never been more anxious in my life.I had just spent the last three endless hours trying to get to the airport so that I could travel home. Now,as I watched the bus driver set my luggage on the airport sidewalk,I realized that my anxiety had only just begun.
This was my first visit alone to the international terminal of the airport, and nothing was familiar.I could not make sense of any of the signs.Where was the check-in counter Where should I take my luggage I had no idea where to go,feeling as if I were deaf and blind and stupid.I began to panic. What time was it Where was my plane I had to find help because I could not be late!
I tried to ask a passing businessman for help, but my words all came out wrong. He just frowned and walked away. What had happened I had been in this country for a whole semester, and I could not even remember how to ask for directions. This was awful! Another bus arrived at the terminal, and the passengers came out carrying all sorts of luggage. Here was my chance! I could follow them to the right place, and I would not have to say a word.
I dragged my enormous suitcase behind me and followed the group. We finally reached the elevators.Oh,no! They all fit in it,but there was not enough room for me.I watched in despair as the elevator doors closed.I was abandoned again! I had no idea what to do next.I got on the elevator when it returned and stared at all the buttons.Which one could it be I pressed button 3,because I thought I saw those passengers pressed 3,though it was no more than a quick glance. The elevator slowly climbed up to the third floor and came to a stop.A high, unpleasant noise announced the opening of the doors, and I looked around shyly.
Paragraph 1:
Tears formed in my eyes as I saw the empty hall and realized that I would miss my plane.
Paragraph 2:
When I turned to thank him for all his help,he was gone.

参考范文
Tears formed in my eyes as I saw the empty hall and realized that I would miss my plane.Just then an elderly airport employee walked towards me from the corner. He saw that I was lost and asked if he could help in any way.He gave me his handkerchief to dry my tears as I related my predicament. He smiled kindly, and patted my shoulder to ease my anxiety, before leading me down a long hallway. We walked up some stairs, turned a corner, and at last, there was the check-in counter! He led me past all the lines of people and pushed my luggage to the inspection counter.
When I turned to thank him for all his help,he was gone. I never got an opportunity to know that kind man’s name, but I would always remember his unexpected kindness. He helped me when I needed it most.Without his timely help,I would have certainly missed my plane,I can only hope that one day I will be able to do the same for another traveller who is suffering through a terrible journey.
