Rescue workers found a family in their RV(野营车)on Tuesday after 17 days in the mountains near the Oregon Coast.
Peter Stivers, Marlo Hill-Stivers, their two children Sabastyan 9 and Gabrayell 8 and Hill-Stivers's mother and stepfather, Elbert and Becky, were in the vehicle. On their way home from a trip to the coast, the family got lost in the mountains at an elevation of about 3,800 feet. What's worse, they were trapped in four feet of snow.
“We had fuel and food, but we were running short,” said Elbert. “We were rationing(定量配给).”
When the family was reported missing, rescue teams from Oregon and California searched likely routes to the coast. But with no leads and no idea where the family was heading, those conducting the unsuccessful search eventually called it off.
In the evenings, Sabastyan and Gabrayell entertained the adults by reading jokes from Reader's Digest aloud. The family members survived mostly on dehydrated(脱水的)food.
On Monday, Hill-Stivers and her husband decided to go for help. They packed a tent, wool blankets, tuna, honey, and hand warmers to take into the wilderness with them. The children stayed safe in the RV with their grandparents.
The couple was found the following day by a US Bureau of Land Management worker. A rescue team in a helicopter located the rest of the family. The family was driven out of the snowbound area on snow machines. Parents and children were happily reunited.
“They enjoyed it,” Peter said of his children's experience. “They didn't know we were in trouble.” For the adults, it was quite an ordeal(严酷的考验). Baggy has become the first dog in the UK—and potentially the world—to join the fight against air pollution by recording pollutant levels near the ground.
Baggy wears a pollution monitor on her collar so she can take data measurements close to the ground. Her monitor has shown that air pollution levels are higher closer to ground level, which has helped highlight concerns that babies and young kids may be at higher risk of developing lung problems.
Conventional air pollution monitors are normally fixed on lampposts at about nine feet in the air. However, since Baggy stands at about the same height as a child in a pushchair (婴儿车), she frequently records pollution levels which are much higher than the data gathered by the Environment Agency.
The doggy data research was the idea of Baggy's 13-year-old owner Tom Hunt and his dad Matt. The English youngster noticed that pollution levels are around two-thirds higher close to the ground than they are in the air at the height where they are recorded by the agency. Tom has since reported the shocking findings to the government in an attempt to emphasise that babies are at higher risk of developing asthma (哮喘).
Matt Hunt said he was “very proud” of his son because “when the boy gets an idea, he keeps his head down and gets on with it, and he really does want to do some good and stop young kids from getting asthma.”
“Tom built up a passion for environmental protection at a very early age,” Matt added. “He became very interested in gadgets (小装置). About one year ago, he got this new piece of tech which is like a test tube. One Sunday afternoon, we went out to do some monitoring, and he said, ‘why don't we put it on Baggy's collar and let her monitor the pollution ' So we did it.”
Tom said, “Most of the time, Baggy is just like any other dog. But for the rest of the time she is a super dog, and we are all really proud of her.”
8.With a monitor on her collar, Baggy can .
A.take pollutant readings
B.record pollutant levels
C.process collected data
D.reduce air pollution
9.What can we learn from the Baggy data
A.High places are free of air pollution.
B.Higher pushchairs are more risky for kids.
C.Conventional monitors are more reliable.
D.Air is more polluted closer to the ground.
10.What is Tom's purpose of doing the research
A.To warn of a health risk.
B.To find out pollution sources.
C.To test his new monitor.
D.To prove Baggy's abilities.
11.According to the passage, which word can best describe Tom Hunt
A.Modest. B.Generous.

As new technology is introduced, there are many who worry about its influence on our current and future lifestyles—particularly when it comes to jobs. It is a current belief that with the rise of automation and artificial intelligence (AI), many people's jobs, and therefore their livelihoods, are likely to be lost.
Automation in the workplace is nothing new. Machines have been performing dull tasks on our behalf for years, allowing us to escape many repetitive jobs. A recent report from the McKinsey Global Institute states that nearly two thirds of all jobs could have at least 30% of their activities automated by 2030. However, McKinsey also believes that this new technology will also create new occupations that do not exist today, much as technologies in the past have done. As the horse gave way to the car, hostlers(马夫)became mechanics and mechanised fields drove up wages and created more long-term roles than it destroyed.
“It's an evolution of work,” says Ian Barkin, a robotic process automation specialist. As low-skilled jobs are taken on by AI, people will need to learn new skills. “This calls on us to focus on upskilling. Technology can lead to job reductions but it doesn't have to,” says Barkin.
Whether or not robots and AI will leave us all jobless remains to be seen. Current views on the subject are mixed. Increased automation could indeed lead to a loss of some jobs, but at the same time is likely to create many more as new skills are required. Will they balance out
12.How do many people feel about the influence of AI
A.Quite delighted. B.Quite surprised.
C.A sense of fear. D.A sense of pride.
13.What might be McKinsey's attitude to the rise of automation
A.Doubtful. B.Negative.
C.Critical. D.Approving.
14.What does the underlined word “upskilling” in Paragraph 3 mean
A.Taking risks.
B.Improving ourselves.
C.Adapting to the world.
D.Thinking positively.
15.Which can best express the author's view on automation
A.Every coin has two sides.
B.Where there is life, there is hope.
C.It's better to do well than to say well.
D.A bad workman quarrels with his tools.

Most people actually do not know how to do basic first aid on mild burns. It is normally taken for granted since most people think that soaking (浸泡) the burn in water is the way to go. 16
Once the burn appears, you will surely feel much pain on the actual burned skin. Technically, this is the time to stay calm. 17 Finding a source of running water is recommended. However, if there is none, any source will do. If there is running water, simply place the burned area under it and allow it to soak in the water for about 5 to 10 minutes. 18 If you have access to ice or a cold compress(冷敷布), you can use that as well. You can place the ice or cold compress on the affected area and leave it there about 15 to 30 minutes. The ice will numb the pain and will also stop more injuries to the skin.
After soaking in water or cooling the area with ice, remove from the water source and allow the moisture to dry naturally. You may also consider patting it dry with a towel or napkin;however, this could damage the burnt skin even more. 19
As soon as the area dries completely, get a bandage or a strip of cloth. 20 This will protect that area from infection caused by outside dirt and dust getting into the open burn.
A.Calling a doctor may as well help in most burn cases.
B.The thing is that treating a mild burn goes more than just soaking the affected part in water.
C.It is best to dry it naturally instead.
D.Wrap it around the burn to cover the open area of skin.
E.The truth is that soaking is the last thing to do to deal with mild burns.
F.The first thing you need to do is to find a clean water source.
G.This will relieve some of the pain, cool the skin, and stop the additional burn.

(2021山东烟台高三上期中,难)
Lungs nearly bursting, I struggled to lift my head out of the water. Inch by inch, my tired body reached for the end of the pool.
The extent of my swimming career was purely recreational, while the competitive swimmers nearby thought nothing of the seemingly simple task of a 500-meter swim test. Pushing myself to finish what I had started, I could only think: why not take the easy way out
Earlier that week, I had turned in my first job application at a local pool. Overqualified, I was hired on the spot. However, the tasks were boring: helping confused visitors and measuring the height of children before they went down the slide, those sorts of things. I was capable of more.
So a swim test was required, establishing the mere fact that I was not completely helpless in a pool. Midway through, the manager administering the test remarked, “This looks really easy for you. Why aren't you applying to become a guard ”
“The thought hadn't crossed my mind.”
“Well, lifeguarding demands more responsibility, strength and respect. Thus the position pays $2 more per hour. Your swimming skills are strong enough. All you need to do is complete a certification class.”
Inside I was unsure of myself, but his words inspired me—you never know what you are capable of until you force yourself to do it.
Soon I passed the swim test. All left was to practice and learn first aid, CPR(心肺复苏), and procedures for different land and water-based emergencies.
Work started soon. A well-intentioned yet anxious feeling in me soon passed. Days, weeks, and months went by without incident; emergencies were rare. The skills and training I had so carefully studied and acquired seemed unnecessary.
Today appeared to be another uneventful day. However, shortly after the other guards signaled to the children to exit the pool, I noticed one boy was still in the middle while the others had climbed up.
注意:续写词数应为l50左右。
Paragraph 1:
“Something must have gone wrong with him,” I thought to myself.
Paragraph 2:
Having the boy on the floor, I put my ear to his mouth and my fingers at his neck.

长难句分析
原句 The patrol(巡逻队) had gathered below and performed emergency treatment on Richard who had been hanging for 5 minutes and then skied him down to an ambulance.

Para. 2 Having the boy on the floor, I put my ear to his mouth and my fingers at his neck.
One possible version:
Paragraph 1:
“Something must have gone wrong with him,” I thought to myself. Sure enough, with a closer look, I found the boy waving his hands desperately. I quickly dived into the water, swimming towards the boy at full speed. By the time I reached him, he had sunk to the bottom of the pool, his head hanging down, which filled my heart with fright and concern. I picked the boy up and headed to the poolside, keeping his head above the water.
Paragraph 2:
Having the boy on the floor, I put my ear to his mouth and my fingers at his neck. I could tell that he had no heartbeat and wasn't breathing. Every second counted! Without hesitation, I did first aid, giving him mouth-to-mouth breathing and doing CPR as trained. Other guards watching anxiously, I carried on, sweating. Suddenly, a stream of water burst out of his mouth and the boy coughed intensely. Seeing the boy regain consciousness, those around broke into cheers. Exhausted, I sighed with relief. I thought that had I accepted that easy position, I would have been nothing but a bystander. I'm happy I didn't take the easy way out.
