Teaching procedure:
Step 1: Warm up
T/Ss listen and sing the song “Last weekend”
T/Ss free talk:
-What day is it today (It’s Monday…)
-How was your weekend (It was fine…)
-What did you do last weekend (I did my homework…)
-Where did you go (I went to the park…)
-Did you see the dog What’s its name What happened (P28)
Step 2: Presentation/pre-reading
T show a short essay about Max: Last Friday, Wu Binbin rode a bike to the park. When he came back home, he didn’t find his cap. Where was his cap A little dag had the cap. Wu Binbin took the dog home together. It was so cute!
Ss read and choose the answer:
-How did Wu Binbin meet Max A. Wu Binbin lost his cap and Max found it.
B. Wu Binbin lost his dag and Max found it.
-What will happen next What happened last Friday
Step 3: Practice/while-reading
T/Ss listen and read the text.
Then Ss answer and number the pictures.(P29)
Then Ss read the text again, answer the question:
-What happened to Wu Binbin ’s family
Sone-by-one name the verbs and list the BAD things or the GOOD things
Step 4: Consolidation and extension
T/Ss choose a title for the diary: A. My bad day
B. My good day
C. My bad but good day
Ss finish the blanks, write about their own dairy: My bad but good day
(T show some verbs or phrases)
T/Sone read and say
Step 5: Homework
T: As the saying goes, “Bad luck often brings good luck”. In Chinese we say: “塞翁失马”. Ss try to read the story “A Good Thing or a Bad Thing” and finish the exercises.

A Good Thing or a Bad Thing
In the old times, there was an old man. His name was Saiweng. He always thought differently from the other people. One day, his horse came out and didn’t come back. His neighbours(邻居) felt sorry for him. However, he said, “Losing a horse is a bad thing, but maybe it will become a good thing.” Several months later, his horse came back with another fine horse. His neighbours felt happy for him, but he said, “Maybe it will become a bad thing.” Just as he worried, one day, his son rode the fine horse. He fell off and hurt his leg. His son become a disabled(残疾的) man. His neighbours were sorry for him again, but he didn’t think so:” Maybe it will become a good thing again.” One year later, there was a war(战争). Many young men became soldiers(士兵) and died(死亡). His son didn’t have to serve in the army(部队) because of his leg. His leg injury(伤) saved his life.
