Hello. My name is Hao Tongxin. I live in a small village. I’m in Grade 7 and I love going to school!
My school is a “hope” school. Last year, I wanted to give up my studies. I wanted to stay home
and help my family.
But my teacher said, “With a good education, you can make a
difference.You can make a good life for yourself. Then you can help your family, friends and other people, too.” She gave me hope.
My teacher is great. She often visits her students and their families. She does not want anyone to drop out of school. She always helps us in every possible way. She is making a big difference in our lives.
Now, I never miss a day of school. I want to make a difference in the future — just like my teacher.

【拓展】
give up后接名词或动词的-ing形式作宾语。如果代词作give up的宾语则要放在give与up之间, 如give it up。

education意为“教育”, 为不可数名词, 其前有形容词修饰时通常加冠词a (n), 如 get / have a (n) ... education。
【例句】
It’s very important for children to get a good education.
孩子得到良好的教育是非常重要的。
make a difference 起作用; 有影响
make a difference to sb. / sth.意为“对某人 / 某物有作用或有影响”
【例句】
Exercise can make a big difference to your state of health.

make no difference to sb./sth.意为“对某人 / 某物没有影响或作用”。
【例句】
It makes no difference to me whether you go or not.

drop v. 放弃; 停止, 过去式为dropped, 过去分词为dropped。
drop out of school 退学; 辍学
【例句】

他为什么退学？
【拓展】
drop还可以表示“落下”, 作及物动词意思为“把某物扔下”, 作不及物动词意思为“掉下来”。
【例句】
He dropped his book. 他扔掉了他的书。

possible adj. 意为“可能的”, 既可以作定语, 也可以作表语。possible的反义词是impossible（不可能的）, 副词为possibly。
【例句】

我们尽可能地自己解决这个问题。
