Dear Alice,
I am more than happy to receive your letter. In your letter, you ask me about my study and living life in the first term of Senior One. Let me introduce it to you.
The study and living life in the first semester of Senior One is different from that of Junior. What I want to mention most is the life of first term is more independent, study is more challenging and we have to learn 9 subjects. With the help of teachers and classmates, I was well accustomed to the life of Senior High.
With the new term coming, I make up my mind to try harder. Still, I will pay more attention to forming the study habit of preview and review, which is of vital importance to improve study efficiency.
Lastly, I have an expectancy that my study and living life of this new semester will be both amazing and fulfilling and I can have some time to join my favorite clubs.
Looking forward to your letter. Best Wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua

Text 10
Teaching is the greatest profession under the sun, because nothing is more important than education to a nation. Sometimes, it seems easy to be a teacher, but I always find it difficult, because only having knowledge can’t make us a good teacher. As teachers, we must not only have a wide range of knowledge but also have teaching skills and positive attitudes. For one thing, we must treat every student equally and not judge the students only by their grades. For another, we should not be the candles, but be the matches to start a spark. We should create an atmosphere to attract the students’ interest. Since most students like doing things with their hands, we can assign them some tasks for them to do. Sometimes we can also do some activities with them. Sometimes, we may be troubled by some naughty students. Therefore, we must have patience. These are my personal ideas about what good teachers should be. In future I will devote more diligence to my work and try to be a popular teacher.2022 年 2 月

Music festivals in Europe
Visiting a festival abroad can be a great reason to travel and a way to experience
different cultures. These days there is such a number of choices that it's possible to
spend the whole summer watching live music in exciting places. Of course, it's also
a chance to meet people from across the world.
Melt! Festival, Germany
This festival takes place on the site of an open-air museum for industrial
machinery. There's also a lake which can be used for swimming when it's hot. This
year's line up has over 120 different bands. Around 90% of the people attending the
festival are Germans, providing a perfect chance to practise speaking the language.
Exit Festival, Serbia
Set on the banks of the Danube in an old fortress (城堡), the festival began as a
way to show people's dissatisfaction with the government. These days it's less
political but still worries about people who are poor, ill, old, etc. and tries to help
them. This year's festival will host many famous bands. From electronic music and
dance music to hard rock, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival, Scotland

matter if you're a beginner because the band teaches you each dance.
Open'er Festival, Poland
Held in an airfield near the northern city of Gdansk, each year Open'er has a

There is a picture: A polar bear is lying lifeless on a beach. On the shore, in the
background, stand three guards, talking to each other. One of them has a gun
hanging casually on his shoulder. This powerful image has made people question the
motivation(动机) for this kind of tourism, or ecotourism. Does our proximity(接近)
to large animals in the wild, frequently caused by a desire for exciting images, lead
to such animals becoming accustomed to(习惯于) human contact If that is the case,
surely the losing side will end up paying the price for such proximity.
To my sorrow, I have recently returned from a trip to Svalbard, and stood two
weeks ago on the very beach where the bear was shot. The bear’s death should never
have happened. Was the beach examined beforehand Was there access to flares (照
明弹) to scare off a bear that appeared suddenly These are standard measures for
any operator. The incident is probably the result of a terrible systematic(制度的)
failure.
However, the incident should not deny the value of ecotourism. In its best form,
第 4 页 共 11 页
this kind of travel has very little influence, or indeed has a positive effect, on the
environment where it takes place. This can be achieved by making financial
donations to conservation groups, providing income to local communities, or
ensuring protection of certain areas or animals. In Svalbard, visitors become
ambassadors(大使) for the endangered polar bear, increasing awareness of the fact
that the far greater danger they are facing is the sea ice melt in the Arctic Ocean.
Ecotourism is an expanding market that brings benefits as well as challenges to
the regions around the world in which it operates. Simply closing off these regions is
not the answer.
24.Why was the polar bear dead
A. It was probably killed by tourists.
B. It was probably frightened to death by flares.
C. The proper rules weren’t probably followed.
D. The beach wasn’t probably equipped with safety equipment.
25.What is the third paragraph mainly about
A. Ecotourism could be developed properly.
B. Financial donations should be strongly encouraged.
C. Environmental awareness has greatly increased.
D. Visitors are ashamed of ecotourism.
26.What does the underlined sentence in the last paragraph suggest
A. More challenges haven’t yet been accepted.
B. Better measures for leading ecotourism are a good choice.
C. The environmental benefits from ecotourism are very obvious.
D. The positive effects of protecting tourists haven’t yet been felt.
27.What is the purpose of the text
A. To urge readers to focus on polar bears.
B. To make readers reflect on ecotourism.
C. To stress negative effects that ecotourism has caused.
D. To analyse the reason why the polar bear was killed.

As a means of dealing with loneliness and social isolation (孤立) in English
towns, local police forces have begun providing specific public benches that can be
used for making friends and having conversations.
The “Chat Benches”, which are now located in two different parks and outdoor
areas in Somerset, are recognized by a little sign reading: “Sit here if you don’t mind
someone stopping to say hello!”
The Avon and Somerset Police Department Facebook page recently published
photos of their two new “Chat Benches” in Burnham and Taunton with an
encouraging note for readers to stop by and use them for socialization (社交). “The

sign simply helps to break the silence between strangers who find themselves
sharing a common place,” says the police department. “We can all play a part.
Simply stopping to say ‘hello’ to someone at the ‘Chat Bench’ could make life a
little better for many people.”
According to a survey of the department, 17% of old people are only in contact
with family, friends and neighbors less than once a week. This rises to abbout 9
million British people who suffer from loneliness and isolation each year.
The police force started the Chat Bench earlier this month to go with World
Elder Abuse (虐待) Awareness Day. Though the officers say that there are many
different forms of elder abuse which need our concern(关心), they hope that the
Chat Bench will help to deal with senior loneliness in their communities. “The Chat
Bench is a fantastic new thing and I hope people of all ages start many more

If you love eating and drinking for free and are looking to make some pocket
money, there's a job in China with your name on it. A new type of online service
allows people to hire others to eat or drink their favorite treats, either to cure their
boredom or satisfy their appetite without the calories that usually come with it.
第 6 页 共 11 页
Chinese media recently reported on an increasingly popular service on online
platform Taobao that's as shocking as it is appealing. People can now go online and
hire others to consume certain foods and drinks, and ask them to provide video
evidence of them eating or drinking the said treats.
Fees usually range from two to nine yuan ($0.30 - $1.35) plus the cost of the
food. It's not exactly a get-rich-quick job, but there are quite a lot of people willing
to do it for the free treats alone.
"Bubble tea drinking" is a particularly popular service, as the chewy tapioca(木
薯粉)balls and popping drink is all the rage in Asia these days, but there are also ads
from people willing to eat fried chicken or hot pot for anyone willing to pay for
them.
Advertised as being "fat-free" and "free of queues", those who pay for the
service will receive the full experience, which includes a 360-degree video of the
drink, photos, and a detailed description. Prices of the service are based on the
drink's sweetness level, its price, and popularity. Some customers even require a
short written review to be sure that the person they hired actually does what they are
supposed to.
Sellers explained that most customers buy their "Bubble tea drinking" service
maybe because they're trying to shake off desires while they're on a diet. Drinking
bubble tea by proxy(受托人) may help customers avoid high blood pressure, high
blood sugar, and other health problems that the sugar-laden drink may cause.
So why would anyone pay a total stranger to enjoy a treat rather than consume it
themselves Well, apparently, the online service is so cheap that some people simply
do it out of boredom, while others get satisfaction from watching others indulge
in(沉溺于) their favorite treats.
This indulging-by-proxy service(代享受服务) has received a lot of attention on
social media in China, with some people describing it as the job of their dreams.
32. What kind of people may buy the new type of online service
A. Those who are boring.
B. Those who are trying to lose weight.
C. Those who love eating and drinking for free.
D. Those who are looking to make some pocket money.
33. Which is the reason for many people being willing to be hired for the new job
A. That they can make a fortune.
B. That the foods and drinks are cheap
C. That they can consume the treats for free.
D. That they can realize their dreams
34.Why does the author mention "bubble tea drinking" in Paragraph 4
A. To prove that the new type of service online is popular.
第 7 页 共 11 页
B. To list an example of the new type of service online
C. To show bubble tea is greatly welcome in Asia.
D. To encourage the new type of service online.
35. What is the main idea of the passage
A. Indulging-by-proxy service online helps lose weight.
B. Boredom leads to indulging-by-proxy service online.
C. People hold different opinions on indulging-by-proxy service online.
D. Indulging-by-proxy service online is getting increasingly popular.

I once had a cute pet dog calling Jerry. Every day when I get home from school,
Jerry would run to the door or give me a warm welcome. I would then pick him up
and touch his head gentle. One day, when I returned home away from school, I didn't
see Jerry at the door. My mother told me that Jerry had died in accident. My heart
broke when I heard this. In the following two week, I could not help go to his little
house, but it was empty. I realized that she had left me. I just hope there are no
accidents in the world which Jerry lives now.
