Friends are different things to different people. To my little sister, a friend is someone who likes to swim and ride bikes. My mom’s idea of a friend is someone like Mrs. Smith who walks and talks with her every morning. My dad’s friends are neighbors who help him with the work like building shelves (架子) and planting trees.
Steve, our monitor, is my best friend. We go skating, play football, talk about sports, and go to a concert. When I broke my leg, he always came over to play games; in school, he carried my schoolbag for me and got my lunch for me. I know I can always depend on him, and he also knows he can depend on me.
Some friends may be in your life for a while. Others will be there for a long time, maybe even forever (永远). I would hate to move, unless I could take my friends with me. They are too important to leave behind.

阅读下面一篇短文,在短文后表格中的空白处填上适当的单词,每空一词。
As a proverb says, “Your tongue has the power of life and death.” This means that your words have power to finally cause things to happen, even life or death.
We may all experience the power of words in our life, even when we were very young. Teachers or parents blame (责备) a child, and after that, the child might probably think of himself as a bad one. Most kids have that experience. They say it’s important to praise children four times for each negative (负面的) word. Blaming will make things worse, while positive words are helpful especially when being in trouble or in need. When we fail the exam, encouraging (鼓励) words from our teachers or parents make us work harder at our lessons.
Encouraging words can go quite a long way. They lift people up. For example, encouraging words to someone who is sad can help them make it through the day. Words can have a powerful effect on your brain. And it will in turn (相应地) have a great influence on your action.
Everything you do depends on what you choose to do. It’s not your parents, your past relationships or your job, but you and only you that are responsible for every goal you set. If you have dreams in life, write them down and speak them out. Your words are likely to bring out something amazing.
The Power of Words Your words have power to finally cause things to happen, even life or death.
Example 1 ____1___ being blamed, a child might probably think of himself as a bad child. Example 2 Encouraging words make students who can’t ___2____ the exam work harder at lessons. Example 3 Encouraging words help ___3____ people make it through the day.
●Words have a powerful effect on your brain, and in turn it influence your action ___4____. ●Everything you do depends on the ____5____ you make.

五、阅读回答问题B组
A lot of parents would like to make all decisions for their children. They always think their children are too young to look after themselves well. In fact, everyone needs to live by themselves one day. So I think parents should give their children more space. Of course, that doesn’t mean parents are not important in their children’s lives. Here is some advice to help parents get on with their children.
Firstly, talk with them more often about their school life. Parents can ask their children questions like “How do you feel today ” or “Do you have anything interesting to tell me ” In this way, parents can know more about their children.
Secondly, parents can invite their children to do the housework together. After the children finish their homework, parents can invite them to do some simple housework together, because it can not only help the children relax, but also improve the relations between parents and children.
Thirdly, when children are in bad moods (心情), parents shouldn’t ask too much. Instead, parents should care for their children in other ways. Then, children are willing to talk about their problems.
In a word, if parents respect their children’s ideas, the children will do the same, too.
