Sport is not only physically challenging, but it can also be mentally challenging. Criticism(批评)from coaches, parents, and other teammates, as well as pressure to win can create an excessive amount of anxiety or stress for young athletes(运动员). Stress can be physical, emotional, or psychological, and research has indicated that it can lead to burnout. Burnout has been described as dropping or quitting of an activity that was at one time enjoyable.
The early years of development are critical years for learning about oneself. The sport setting is one where valuable experience can take place. Young athletes can, for example, learn how to cooperate with others, make friends and gain other social skills that will be used throughout their lives. Coaches and parents should be aware, at all times, that their feedback to youngsters can greatly affect their children. Youngsters may take their parents’ and coaches’ criticisms to heart and find a flaw(缺陷)in themselves.
Coaches and parents should also be cautious that youth sport participation does not become work for children. The outcome(结果)of the game should not be more important than the process of learning the sport and other life lessons. In today’s youth sport setting, young athletes may be worrying more about who will win instead of enjoying themselves and the sport. Following a game, many parents and coaches focus on the outcome and find fault with youngsters’ performances. Positive reinforcement(支持)should be provided regardless of the outcome. Research indicates that positive reinforcement motivates and has a greater effect on learning than criticism. Again, criticism can create high levels of stress, which can lead to burnout.
14. What’s the main idea of the first paragraph
A. Mental stress should be reduced.
B. Sports should be made less competitive.
C. Stress should be made less.
D. Sports can be mentally challenging.
15. According to the passage, young people can benefit from sport because ______.
A. it can help them learn more about society
B. it enables them to criticize themselves
C. it can provide them with valuable experiences
D. it teaches them how to set realistic goals for themselves
16. According to the passage parents and coaches should ______.
A. enable children to enjoy sports
B. help children to win every game
C. train children to deal with stress
D. understanding the meaning of sports
17. The author’s purpose in writing the passage is ______.
A. to teach young athletes how to avoid burnout
B. to persuade young children not to worry about criticism
C. to stress the importance of encouraging children
D. to discuss the skill of combining criticism with encouragement

I realized I would not see a real person named Sophie at Sophie’s Eatery because, like most new restaurants these days, Sophie’s is a robot-restaurant.
When I walked in, a cute little manager robot appeared, looked rather like a toaster with blinking blue eyes. It escorted me to a nice table in the back. The menu monitor popped out of my table and showed me pictures of my dining choices. I tapped my choices and clicked OK, and the screen slid back down.
I watched as full plates rode the conveyer belts that moved along each aisle of tables. In just a few minutes, my dish stopped at my table, and I took it from the belt. Later, I placed my empty plate back on the conveyer belt, and it was taken into kitchen to be cleaned.
I watched the little toaster showing customers to tables while I ate my main dish. The food was delicious, but I was starting to feel extremely angry because dealing with robots always make me feel inhuman. Pretty soon, I wanted to talk to someone real, even if it was just a few sentences.
So when my dessert arrived, I took action. I dropped my plate on the floor with a satisfying crash. I was so happy when I saw the manager toaster’s blinking red eyes--at last, a real live person would arrive.
But instead, a crew of two robots quickly appeared. A robot broom rushed over and started to sweep the piece of the broken plate into a robot garbage can. They finished and moved back into the kitchen.
My plan to get a little reality into Sophie’s Eatery failed. I hope the robot-restaurant trend ends soon. I want to deal with people again.
18. What does the underlined word “escorted” in paragraph 2 mean
A. Registered B. Guided C. Conducted D. Rushed
19. What is the purpose of the author crashing his plate
A. To deal with a real human. B. To catch attention from the robots.
C. To play jokes on the robots. D. To complain about the bad service.
20. Which of the following best describes the author’s feeling at Sophie’s Eatery
A. Satisfied B. Shocked C. Annoyed D. Curious
21. What is the text mainly about
A. The trend of dining with robots.
B. The advantage of robot-restaurants.
C. The food variety of a robot-restaurant.
D. The dining experience at a robot-restaurant

Scientists and marine biologists had something to celebrate last week when two lost humpback whales(座头鲸)returned to the Pacific Ocean. Delta and Dawn---a mother and a baby---had circled the Sacramento Bay area for two weeks before going back to the ocean.
“We all shouted loudly like ‘Yay’! said Jim Oswald, a spokesman for the Marine Mammal Center, “It’s been really exciting.”
The humpback whales were last spotted on May 29 near the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California. Scientists are sure that the whales swam into open water during the evening of May 29 or early the next morning, since there have been no further sightings of the whales. Even so, boats were sent out to look for them, just in case the whales made another wrong turn.
Officials spent two weeks trying to get the whales to turn back towards the ocean. Biologists played recordings of whale-feeding as well as unfamiliar sounds to try to make the whales head back to the Pacific Ocean.
However, Delta and Dawn gave scientists an unexpected chance to study humpback whales in the wild. Scientists were able to gather sound recordings and watch their behaviour. This is especially exciting because humpback whales are an endangered species. What’s more, scientists don’t usually have the chance to observe them in their natural habitat.
“All those things are very hard to get,” said Oswald, “So what we are doing is filling up the knowledge blank on humpback whales in the wild,” Scientists should be able to use this information to help other lost whales in the future.
22. Jim Oswald was very happy because ______.
A. the whale travelled to Sacramento Bay
B. he found the lost humpback whales
C. the scientists held a great celebration
D. the whales returned to the Pacific Ocean
23. In order to make the whales go back to the ocean, the biologists ______.
A. fed them with other animals
B. swam into open water
C. played music to them
D. played strange sounds to them
24. The fifth paragraph mainly tells us that ______.
A. humpback whales will disappear in the future
B. humpback whales were excited in their natural habitat
C. scientists learned more about humpback whales
D. scientists are worried about humpback whales
25. What’s the best title for the passage
A. Looking for the Lost Whales
B. Helping the Lost Whales
C. The Lost Whales Returned
D. Two Whales Were Lost
