【参考范文】
I was a bit confused and mentioned this incident to his teachers. When I remarked that I didn’t know what caused the changes, one of them said laughing.“It must be his coat!”Another teacher told me she was giving him a good mark not only because he had earned it but because she liked his coat. At the library,we ran into a friend who had not seen our children in a long time,“Could this be John?”he asked, looking up to John’s new height, assessing the cut of his coat and extending his hand, one gentleman to another.
John and I both know we should never mistake a person’s clothes for the real person within them. But there is something to be said for wearing a standard of excellence for the world to see,for practising standards of excellence in thought, speech, and behaviour, and for matching what is on the inside to what is on the outside. The whole world, the whole future is stretched out ahead, where all the doors are open. And if I were there right now,I would picture myself walking through those doors wearing my wonderful, magical coat.

M:I just love your new sofa!Katie and I have been thinking that it’s time we upgraded our own living room furniture.
W:Well, you have to go down to Mancini’s. It has so many different sofas, chairs, coffee tables, pretty much everything imaginable for the living room.
M:I think we’re ready to invest a little bit of money in a high-quality living room set. I’ve never had that in my home before, and I think it’s something that Katie and I feel we deserve.
W:Cory and I felt the same way. You remember our old couch, right? That huge, ugly thing from the 1970s?
M:Yeah,it was pretty wild!
W:Well, one day,we just looked at each other and decided right then and there that we weren’t going to live like college kids anymore. I saw an ad for Mancini’s in the newspaper, and then I happened to be walking by there one day on my way to the supermarket. You have to go down there when you get a chance.

M:Thanks for the tip. Katie and I will probably head over there this weekend.
Text 9
M:They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but what does that mean exactly?
W:It means that beauty is a matter of judgment by the one who is observing. For example,a person might seem beautiful to one person, but ugly to another.
M:Yes,but people usually know that they are beautiful or ugly when someone tells them so.
W:First of all,no one should ever call someone else ugly. I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase“If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.”
M:Well, what if someone is behaving in an ugly manner?
W:That is different. I was talking about appearances.
M:What if you think someone’s clothes are ugly?
W:If you are very close to the person and you want to save them from embarrassment, that is one thing. I still would not do it myself. People have different tastes and should be respected.
M:Well,my sister always tells me how ugly my beard is.
W:She’s your sister. I think it’s rude and none of her business, but if you two are close and talk openly like that,I am not gonna judge. I think your beard looks fine.
M:It makes me look more manly, right?
W:I wouldn’t go that far. I think you could use a haircut if you want to look more manly.
M:Now who’s being rude and judgmental?
W:Come on,man,I know you won’t mind,right?

OK,welcome to Fast‘n’Furious Mini Cars!I know you guys know how to drive cars out on the streets, but that doesn’t mean we can automatically trust you to handle these smaller vehicles on this indoor racetrack. So,before we get started,I just want to go over some ground rules. Number 1:you must wear your helmet and seatbelt at all times. Anyone who is found breaking this rule will be asked to leave the racetrack and will not receive a refund of their deposit. Number 2:please drive safely. This means no bumping into other cars on purpose, and be aware that drivers who are judged to be driving too aggressively will be given a warning before being asked to leave. Number 3:there is absolutely no eating, drinking,or smoking in the vehicles. There is a restaurant where drivers can relax between races, but nothing except the driver should be in the mini cars. Finally, please make sure you are familiar with all the safety features of the vehicles before the first race starts. These include the door locks, the emergency braking system, and the emergency lights. If there is an accident out on the track, you’ll need to be able to use these features as quickly and safely as possible. You’ve all signed your insurance forms already,so if there are no other questions, pick out your helmets and let’s get out to the track and check out the cars!
