Lead-in Play a video about describing the appearance and characteristics of the cartoon character to lead in the topic of this Unit. Ask students what their impression is to Moomin, and tell students that in this class we will study some words to describe people’s personalities.Step 1 News words learning Adjectives 形容词clever 聪明的friendly友好的outgoing开朗的hard-working努力的shy害羞的serious严肃的kind和蔼的lazy懒惰的 The pictures are given first, and the teacher asks students to guess the Chinese meaning of the words. Then the teacher gives the English word to the students and asks them to read the new words by following the teacher. There are eight words altogether in this part. When each words is learned, the sentence of “--What is he/she like --He/She is ...” should be used to practice the new words in the Unit. “outgoing and shy”, “hard-working and lazy ” should be put together so as to make them easy to understand by students.Eg: ---What is he like Is he outgoing ---He is not outgoing, he is shy.Step 2: Presentation and checkPresentation and reviewingPut the pictures of the eight new words learned together and guide students to review these adjectives again. While reviewing the new words, the order of the pictures will be arranged in a disorganizing way. The teacher points at each picture and ask students with “---What is he/ she like or ---What do you think of him/ her ” sentence. Students should answer the question with “---He/ She is ...” sentence, and then repeat the adjectives and spell them.Check(word game)After the revision, there will be a word game to check whether students have memorized these new words. There are nine choices from A to I. Each letter covers a picture that is related to what was learned just now. The teacher asks a students first, and let the students choose a letter, and then looking at the picture he or she choose to ask “What is he/ she like ”. The students answers the question, spells the word and speaks out the Chinese meaning of the word. And then, the student choose another student to check another word by the way he has with the teacher. The following steps are all the same until all of the nine words are finished. Step 3: Sentence study and practiceAfter learning the new words, there are three sentences that need making a difference:1. What is he like (What do you think of him )2. What does he look like 3. What does he like First of all, we should pay attention to the word “like”. In the three sentences, “like” has different parts of speech and meanings. In sentence 1 and sentence 2, it is a preposition, which means “像......” in Chinese. Yet in sentence 3, it is a verb and means “喜欢”. Then, the major focus should be on the meaning and usage of the three sentences. For the first sentence, it asks about a person’s personality. The second one is about a person’s appearance and the last one is about one’s hobby. Students should have a clear idea about the usage of the three sentences and then use them to have a practice on describing others.Task One English practice: look at the following pictures and describe(描述) them in English (group discussion) By learning the above sentences, students are given four pictures famous people and characters that students are familiar with and ask students to describe them. Students are asked to have a discussion in six groups. For the group that behaves well, the other students should applause for them. There are four characters for students to talk about: Monkey King, The Snow Queen(Elsa), Yao Ming andYuan Longping. The teacher should take the picture of Monkey King as an example, and use the above three sentences to guide students to describe the other characters.Task Two English Practice:To describe someone in our classThe teacher will give students some useful expressions and ask them to use these sentences and expressions to describe someone they are familiar with in their class.Major expressions:He/She is ...oldHe/She is tall/short. The students can not speak out the name of the one he/she described, and ask the other student to guess who he or she is.
