Albert was mad about computer games. He could spend hours in front of the computer. When people encouraged him to leave the screen to have a normal life, he would respond u this is my window to the world. There is much more here than you realize.
Among all his games, he especially liked a rabbit-catching game. He was a real expert at it. He once even won the champion of an online rabbit-catching competition.
One day, as usual, as soon as he got home, he ran to his room to play computer games. But this time he found the computer was not there. Yet in its place there was a box, on which a card said, “Gift for Game Winner.” When he opened the box, he found a real rabbit in it. His parents then came in to tell him that they bought him the rabbit in place of the rabbit game because his computer was sent for repair.
Albert loved the little rabbit immediately. He liked playing with it and even gave it a name. He studied its diet and habits. Days later, he actually began to enjoy the company of the rabbit. And he also enjoyed sharing his stories and his growing knowledge about rabbits with his parents, friends and teachers.
Now, Albert is no longer mad about computer games. He prefers learning and discovering new things about animals. He also uses the computer to do that. Now many young people are traveling around the world on their own, not because they have no one to travel with, but because they prefer to go alone.
Kristina Wegscheider from California first traveled alone when she was at college and believes that it is something everyone should do at least once in their life. “It opens up your mind to new things and pushes you out of your comfort zone.” Wegscheider has visited 46 countries covering all seven continents.
In foreign countries, with no one to help you read a map, look after you if you get ill, or lend you money if your wallet is stolen, it is challenging. This is what drives young people to travel alone. It is seen as character building and a chance to prove that they can make it on their own.
Chris Richardson decided to leave his sales job in Australia to go traveling last year. He set up a website, The Aussie Nomad, to document his adventures. He said he wished he had traveled alone earlier. “The people you meet, the places you visit, or the things you do, everything is up to you and it forces you to grow as a person,’’ said the 30-year-old man.
Richardson describes traveling alone like “a shot in the arm”, which “makes you a more person that is ready to deal with anything”. He said, “The feeling of having conquered something on my own is a major part of what drives me each day when I’m dealing with a difficult task. I walk around with my head up because I know deep down inside that nothing is impossible if you try.”
The great 19th century explorer John Muir once said, “Only by going alone in silence can one truly get into the heart of the wilderness.”
28. Why is it challenging to travel alone
A. It will finally build your character.
B. You have to make things on your own.
C. It is hard for you to prove yourself to others.
D. You depend on yourself whatever happens.

A. Traveling abroad helps people to find new things.
B. It is more meaningful to travel in foreign countries.
C. It is comfortable to travel around without a friend.
D. Traveling alone is a necessary experience for everyone.
30. What can we infer about Chris Richardson
A. He started traveling at an early age.
B. He was once shot in the arm.
C. He used to work as a salesman.
D. His website inspires others a lot.
31. What is the best title for the passage
A. Travel Wide and Far B. Travel Unaccompanied
C. Travel Light D. Travel Abroad

A new study shows that fat people in the United States suffer direct economic and social effects because of their size. The findings are from an 8-year study of about 100,000 people. The people studied were between the ages of 16 and 24 when the research began.

The researchers say that more than 1, 000,000 Americans are that big. The researchers found that fat young women were more likely to lose social and economic power even if they were from wealthy families. The fat women were also 20% less likely to get married and they earned an average of about S 6,700 a year less than other women. The study showed less severe effect on fat men. How to Manage Your Time
For many high school students it seems that there is never enough time. There are several steps you can take to organize your time better.
First, make a to-do list every day. It makes it easy to plan any of the activities or meetings you may have in addition to homework. Be sure to set priorities (优先的事物). 36
Use spare time wisely. Do you have study hall (自习课) Instead of wasting that time, read a book or do homework. 37 If a friend asks you to do something and you have homework to do, realize which is more important and see your friend later.
Decide on the time that is good for you to do certain things. If you are more of a morning person, try getting up an hour earlier and do schoolwork before school. Review your notes everyday. 38 If you spend a few minutes at the end of every day going over what you learned, it will mean less time studying when it is time for the exam.
39 Studies have shown that getting enough rest helps your memory. When you are tired, everything seems more difficult. It is best to stay on a regular sleeping cycle as much as possible.
Tell your friends and family about your work timetable. Explain that you will be working at certain times and ask them not to disturb you. 40 You can call your friends later.
A. Set goals for yourself.
B. Get a good night’s sleep.
C. Do the most important tasks first.
D. Also, do not be afraid to say “no”.
E. You should finish your task on time.
F. Don’t take phone calls during the time you set aside for work.

A man came home from work late again, tired and irritated, to find his 5-year old son waiting for him at the door. “Daddy, may I ask you a question ”
“Yeah, sure, what is it ” replied the man.
“Daddy, how much money do you make an hour ”
“That’s none of your business. What makes you ask such a thing ” the man said angrily.
“I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour ” pleaded the little boy.
“If you must know, I make $ 20.00 an hour.”
‘‘Oh,’’ the little boy replied, head bowed.
Looking up, he said, “Daddy, may I borrow $ 10.00 please ”
The father was angry. “If the only reason you wanted to know how much money I make is just so you can borrow some to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you’re being so selfish. I work long, hard hours every day and don’t have time for such childish games.”
The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door. The man sat down and started to get even madder about the little boy’s questioning. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money! After an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think he may have been a little hard on his son. Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $ 10. 00 and he really didn’t ask for money very often. The man went to the door of the little boy’s room and opened the door.
“Are you asleep, son ” he asked.
“No, daddy, I’m awake,” replied the boy.
“I’ve been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier,’’ said the man.
“It’s been a long day and I took my aggravation out on you. Here’s that $ 10. 00 you asked for.”
The little boy sat straight up, smiling. “Oh, thank you, daddy.” he yelled.
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好。
Then, the little boy reached under his pillow.

Dear editor,
Recently, I’ve learned that the school newspaper is looking for an English editor of winter sports section. I’m interested in this position very much.
Being a student with high responsibility, I believe I am quite qualified for this position. First of all, I am fond of winter sports. Besides, I am good at English and I once won the first prize in our school English contest. Finally, as an editor, I will let more people know about winter sports, making them interested in such activities.
I would appreciate it if I could be accepted as an editor, and I’m looking forward to your early reply.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
读后续写
Then, the little boy reached under his pillow. He pulled out some more crumpled up bills. The man, seeing that the boy already had money, started to get angry again. He complained why the boy wanted more money even if he already had some. The little boy slowly counted out his money, then looked up at the man. “Because I didn’t have enough, but now I do,” the little boy replied, “Daddy, I have $20.00 now. Can I buy an hour of your time ”
After hearing what the boy said, the man felt so sorry for what he had said to his son. Tears filled his eyes and he gave a deep hug to the son. In the past few years, he has always been engaged in work and never spent a single weekend with his son. This $20. 00 is just a short reminder to all of us working so hard for our living. Don’t let time slip through our fingers without having spent some quality time with those who really matter to us.

Text 10
A shopping mall called ReTuna in Sweden may look pretty normal, but looking closely at the items for sale in its 14 specialist shops, you’ll realize there’s something quite different about it. Everything for sale here is second-hand. The mall only sells items that are recycled or ‘‘upcycled”, meaning unwanted items broken down and reinvented as something new.
The clever thing about this mall in Eskilstuna near Stockholm is its location. It’s right next to the city’s recycling center. So a steady stream of cars is already coming to drop off unwanted household items. This produces a regular supply of stock for the shops. When goods arrive, a team sorts everything into categories. The mall’s shopkeepers can then pick out which things they want to sell or use as material for upcycling.
One of the most popular shops in the mall specializes in handmade household decorations. This is its best-selling item. It’s made from worn-out leather jackets. In 2018, the mall sold second-hand goods worth $ 1.3 million, meaning unwanted items found new homes.
