Passage 1 吵架出走迷路
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Jenny was the only child in her home. She had a quarrel with her mother that afternoon and she ran out of the house angrily. She couldn’t help weeping sorrowfully when she thought of the scolding from her mother. Having wandered aimlessly in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat, but it was not even possible for her, since she had nothing with her. She stood beside a stand for a while, watching the middle-aged seller busy doing his business. However, with no money in hand, she sighed and had to leave.
The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked, “Hey, girl, you want to have the noodles ”
“Oh, yes... but I don’t have money on me…” she replied.
“That’s nothing. I’ll treat you today,” said the man, “come in.”
The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, whose smell was so attractive. As she was eating, Jenny cried silently.
“What is it ” asked the man kindly.
“Nothing, actually I was just touched by your kindness!” said Jenny as she wiped her tears, “Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother, drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me. She is so merciless compared to a stranger!!”
Hearing the words, the seller smiled “Girl, do you really think so I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot. But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. Can you number the times she cooked for you Have you expressed your gratitude to her ”
Jenny sat there, speechless and numb with shock; she remembered mother’sfamiliar face and weathered hands. “Why did I not think of that A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel indebted, but I have never thanked my mum for what she has done for me.”
On the way home, Jenny made up her mind to make an apology to her mother for her rudeness as soon as she arrived home.

Paragraph 1:
Approaching the doorway, Jenny took a deep breath. When she knocked at the door, she found the door was locked and her mother was not in. Tired and sad, she sat down in front of the house. “Where could my mother be ” she wondered, “Was she still angry with me ” Again, the scene of the quarrel appeared in her mind. She remembered her rudeness to her mother. Realizing that all the scolding from her mother was due to the fact that her mother really cared a lot about her, she felt rather ashamed, and tears began to roll down her cheeks.
Paragraph 2:
A gentle touch on her hair called her mind back. She raised her head and saw the familiar face of her mother. “Here you come! I’ve been looking for you,” she said, tired and relieved. Jenny couldn’t help throwing herself into her mother’s arms. “Mum, I’m so sorry and thank you for all you have done for me.” She expressed her sincere apology and great gratitude. Hearing this, her mother smiled patting her back gently.
Passage 2 追兔子迷路
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
It was summer, and my dad wanted to treat me to a vacation like never before. He decided to take me on a trip to the Wild West. We took a plane to Albuquerque, a big city in the state of New Mexico. We reached Albuquerque in the late afternoon. Uncle Paul, my dad’s friend, picked us up from the airport and drove us up to his farm in Pecos.
His wife Tina cooked us a delicious dinner and we got to know his sons Ryan and Kyle. My dad and I spent the night in the guestroom of the farm house listening to the frogs and water rolling down the river nearby. Very early in the morning. Uncle Paul woke us up to have breakfast. “The day starts at dawn on my farm,” he said. After breakfast, I went to help Aunt Tina feed the chickens, while my dad went with Uncle Paul to take the sheep out to graze (吃草). I was impressed to see my dad and Uncle Paul riding horses. They looked really cool.
In the afternoon, I asked Uncle Paul if I could take a horse ride, and he said yes, as long as my dad went with me. I wasn’t going to take a horse ride by myself anyway. So, my dad and I put on our new cowboy hats, got on our horses, and headed slowly towards the mountains. “Don’t be late for supper,” Uncle Paul cried, “and keep to the track so that you don’t get lost!” “OK!” my dad cried back. After a while Uncle Paul and his farm house were out of sight. It was so peaceful and quiet and the colors of the brown rocks, the deep green pine trees, and the late afternoon sun mixed to create a magic scene. It looked like a beautiful woven (编织的) blanket spread out upon the ground just for us.

Paragraph1:
Suddenly a little rabbit jumped out in front of my horse. It was furry with a coat of gorgeous( 华丽的、极好的) brown hair. After looking up at me with its pair of red bulbs , it began to scurry(窜逃) ahead. “Why not catch it and bring it back to Uncle Paul They must be very happy.” With this thought, I rode hard to hunt for it. Dad saw it and had to follow me. The rabbit was very agile, soon entering a mountain forest. We had to get down the horses, continuing the chase and totally forgetting the track back. Even though we tried desperately, the rabbit was out of sight in the end. Then we realized we were in the deep part of a forest.
Paragraph2:
We had no idea where we were and it got dark. And dark clouds seemed to be gathering in the sky. Taking out the cell phone, we soon found something was wrong: no signal. And no compass. Frightened, I stared at Dad, trying to seek a solution for the trouble from him. “Maybe what you have learned in geography class works," he said, pointing to the stars in the sky. I knew he meant the North Star. Soon we found the right direction. We hurried back finding the horses. And the river was in sight again. The family was worried and about to call the police. At the sight of us, they were relieved and hugged us tightly. There was nothing more memorable than this rabbit hunting in my life!
Passage 3 探险迷路遇好心人
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Deep in the forest, my husband and I had climbing over and crawling under the downed trees that blocked the dirt path before us. It was May, yet we walked up a snow-covered hill. When we noticed our jeans were wet up to our knees, it did not dampen our spirits. Not once did we say, “Let’s turn around.” This was our vacation, and we were on an adventure. Little did we know this was the beginning of many more surprises.
The trail was marked as an easy one-kilometer hike, yet we were already walking a long distance. Our lightheartedness stopped when we came out into a clearing and saw a parking lot without our rental car in it. As my eyes scanned the surroundings, nothing looked familiar. My heart raced. I realized we were lost in a notional park that did not officially open for another week.
Usually, I am the calm one in the relationship, but my husband surprised me with his calmness. This did not comfort me; In fact, it heightened my fear. As we walked, I asked my husband to call for help, but there was no cell-phone signal in this isolated(偏僻的)area.
It was awfully quiet except for our footsteps hitting the road, and my heavy breathing. My husband suggested we conserve energy and walk slower. With each step on the road, my feet and thighs hurt while my mind raced with thoughts about people who got lost in the Canadian woods for days.
My vision sharpened. I noticed everything around me: the trees, rocks and snow. I thought we could eat the snow on the ground in case we needed water. For the first time in my life, I was ready and willing to get a ride, but we did not meet with a single car on the road. Silently, I prayed multiple times. We focused on each other, made joint decisions and connected through gratitude. We managed to stay on the main road and walked straight on.

Paragraph 1:
My husband suddenly spotted a small building on a hill in the distance. In no time did we find ourselves heading for it. We were filled with hope and excitement to find such a building in the middle of nowhere. We climbed up the hill at a swinging pace as if all the pains were gone. As we approached, a sign came into sight, which read: Administration Office. However, it was not open for business. The empty hall made us nervous all at once. We stood there hopelessly wondering what to do next.
Paragraph 2:
Just then, a friendly woman appeared, saying, “Hello.” I could barely hold back my enthusiasm and blurted out, “We’re lost!” She comforted us and opened a room for us to take a break. Seeing we were cold and hungry, she treated us with hot chocolate. After studying the map, we figured out that our car was parked over three kilometers away. She offered us a ride back to our car and we accepted gladly. I felt relieved to see our rental car again. What a blessing to have such an unforgettable experience!
Passage 4 迷失 受伤 寒冷

Lost, Injured, and Cold
Three days earlier, I was on a guided group horseback journey through the Montana backcountry. After we pitched camp in the morning, I decided to go on a solo trail run. I picked an 8-mile circle on another guy’s map and showed him my intended route so he would know where I was headed. Then I packed a bag with snacks and water and planned to be back by mid-afternoon.
I set off under a clear sky, but after about 1.5 miles, dark clouds rolled in. Burnt, fallen trees from a wildfire were covering the trail. It disappeared under the debris (残骸) and I lost track of it. I began to feel disappointed; everything felt much more remote than I had expected. As I considered backtracking, it started to rain, so I hid under a tree to stay dry.
Daylight diminished and the temperature dropped. I was wearing only running shorts and a T-shirt—no match for an August night in Montana at nearly 6,000 feet. I held my backpack against my chest, put my face in the opening, and sealed the flap around the edge of my cap. Each breath filled the backpack with hot air to warm my body. Soon I fell asleep.
In the morning, sunlight crept (爬行) across the valley and finally warmed my back. I wondered how long it would take for rescuers to find me off the trail—because the trees were mostly burnt, I was in a fairly visible spot. But as the day progressed, I worried about dehydration (脱水). I decided to head downhill in search of a stream. I lifted my leg and placed my foot flat on the ground, then propped (撑起) myself up on my hands and pushed my bottom forward. Carefully, I moved downhill, placing my leg ahead of me and crab-walking after it. It was slow going, but this method kept the pain to a minimum.

Paragraph 1:
Around 4 p.m., I heard the distant thunder of a helicopter. Excitement shot through my mind. Someone was looking for me. The helicopter appeared over the canyon, then turned my way. I waved, but it passed overhead and disappeared. I was disappointed. Around 8:30 p.m., I stopped on a rock for the night. By the time it was completely dark, I was too exhausted to keep awake. Before I knew it, I was asleep.
Paragraph 2:
At sunrise I found the path. As I sat considering my options, three men on horseback appeared down the trail. My heart beat heavily. “I’m over here!” I shouted. The rescuers rushed over. As they talked to me and I drank water, I realized just how inactive my mind was. They told me I should be proud of myself, helped me onto a horse, and guided me to safety through the canyon that had almost killed me.

It was a Saturday afternoon. The color of the sky was changing, first light gray, then dark gray, and finally dark and dense. The wind was blowing heavily, and the trees were swaying in the strong wind. It began to rain cats and dogs. Soon, the road was filled with puddles from the rain.
In such a stormy afternoon, My mother took my five-year-old brother, Christopher, and me to a new big toy store she had read about in the newspaper. "So many toys,“ the advertisement had shouted in full and flashy color, “ that we had to get a huge warehouse to fit them all!”
Christopher and I couldn't have been more excited. We ran across the parking lot, through the cold and biting rain, as fast as our little legs could carry us. We left our mother outside to battle with the frustrating umbrella, which never worked when she wanted it to. "Christine! Take care of your young brother!” Mother shouted at the top of her voice.
“Christine! I'm going to find the Lego section(乐高积木区)!There's a new pirate ship I want, and I have four dollars! Maybe I can buy it!” Christopher exclaimed and ran off excitedly. I only half heard him. I took a right turn and, to my wide-eyed delight, found myself in the midst of the Barbie(芭比)World.
I was studying a Barbie and doing some simple math in my head when suddenly an earthshaking clap of thunder roared from the storm outside. I jumped at the noise, dropping the doll to the floor. The lights flickered(闪烁)once and died, covering everything in a blanket of blackness. Thunder continued to shake the sky and lightning illuminated the store for seconds, casting frightening shadows on my mind.

Paragraph 1:
“Oh no,” I thought, “Where's Christopher?” Scared and frozen on the spot, I felt the need to see, hug my brother and make sure he was all right. My stomach twisted. I ran up and down the aisles in the dark, panic filling my small chest and making it difficult to breathe. I knocked into displays of candies and tripped over toys, while calling my brother's name like crazy. Anxious as I was, I could not find him. Tears of frustration and fear trickled down my face, but I continued to run.
Paragraph 2:
“Christine, I'm here.” Excitement took my breath away — there in the Lego aisle I found Christopher. He was standing alone, perfectly still, next to the pirate ship set. I began to cry in relief, throwing my arms around him and hugged him tightly. He hugged me back, saying, “I knew if I waited here, Christine, you would be able to find me.” Then, I took his hand in mine and we went to look for our mother, who must be desperately searching the store for us.

The tiny village of Sundial never seemed to get very cold. In the ten short years of his life, Andy had only ever seen snow on three occasions. Due to the extreme heat this year, the villagers of Sundial were rather surprised when a snowman walked down from the mountains and into their tiny village.
The snowman wore a thick white coat and a large blue hat over his round head. The villagers stared at the man made of snow. “Is he a monster ” They whispered among themselves, afraid that he would attack them. The snowman, however, just wandered into the library, grabbed some books, and began reading.
Andy, ever a curious boy, walked up to the snowman. “Why are you wearing such thick clothes Are you cold ” The snowman shook his head. “Want to go play ” Andy asked. The snowman nodded and they spent the day running through the woods, playing hide-and-seek. As the sun set, the snowman waved goodbye to his little friend and left Sundial, passing by Andy`s home on his way back to the mountains.
Andy’s father, the village head, saw the snowman when he looked out of the window at the setting sun. Cold sweat dripped down his face. The following Sunday, he gave the villagers a very different meeting.
The next time the snowman came to the village, the people of Sundial were ready, armed with rocks and torches(火把). The strike was cruel. One of his coal eyes was knocked out, rolling down into the snowfield. As the snowman desperately tried to flee, Andy’s father struck him with a little torch, setting his coat on fire. The melting snowman rolled around, struggling to put out the blazing flames. As his melting body extinguished the flames, the snowman fled the village of Sundial.
“Let him go,” Andy’s father said. “If he’s smart, he won’t come back.” He turned around to find his son on his knees, crying. “It’s alright, son. He won’t bother us again.”

A few years ago, a child was lost in the woods. He was out with his brothers and sisters gathering berries, and was accidentally separated from them, and lost. The children, after looking in vain for some time in search of the little wanderer, returned, just in the dusk of the evening, to inform their parents that their brother was lost and could not be found.
The woods, at that time, were full of bears. The darkness of a cloudy night was rapidly coming on, and the alarmed father, gathering a few of his neighbors, hurried to search for the lost child. The mother remained at home almost distracted with suspense (心神不宁).
As the clouds gathered, and the darkness increased, the father and neighbors with highly excited fears went across the woods in all directions and raised loud shouts to attract the attention of the child.
But their search was in vain. They could find no trace of the wanderer and as they stood under the branches of the tall trees and listened, they wished they might hear his weak voice. However, no sound was brought to their ears, but the strong wind as it swept through the thick branches of the forest.
The gathering clouds threatened an approaching storm, and the deep darkness of the night had already enveloped them. It was difficult to imagine what were the feelings of that father. And who could imagine how deep the worry which filled the heart of that mother, as she heard the wind and looked at the darkness in which her child was wandering!
The search was continued in vain till nine o’clock in the evening. Then, one of the parties was sent back to the village, to collect the villagers for a more extensive search. Every heart sympathized in the sorrows of the anxious parents. Soon groups of the people were seen climbing the hill. Before long, the rain began to fall, but no news came back to the village of the lost child. Hardly an eye was that night closed in sleep, and there was not a mother who did not feel for the parents.

On Sunday, Nicholas, a teenager, went skiing with his father at Sugarloaf Mountain in Maine.
They had a wonderful day and decided to drive home to Massachusetts after a final run. They took a chairlift to the top of the mountain, where they split up to go down in different trails. When the father finished his run, he headed to the parking lot to wait for his son. However, Nicholas never showed up.
It turned out that a fierce snowstorm had swept into the area as Nicholas was on his way down. Unable to see far, he accidentally turned off the path and ventured down the west side of the mountain. Before he knew it, Nicholas was lost and all alone. His way back to the ski trails was blocked. What’s worse, he didn’t have any food or water with him, let alone his cell phone or other supplies. The sun began to sink and he was getting colder by the minute.
Nicholas had no idea where he was. He tried not to panic. He thought about Bear Grylls’ survival show Man vs. Wild that he used to watch on TV. In the show, Grylls is abandoned in a wild area and has to help himself out. It was time to put the tips he had learned to use.
He decided to stop moving around. He needed the energy, and the winds weren’t as strong in the valley where he stood as they were up on the mountain. Plus, there was a better chance of someone finding him if he stayed put. The first thing he did was to seek shelter from the freezing wind and snow. Using his skis, Nicholas built a snow cave. He gathered a huge mass of snow and dug out a hole in the middle. Then he piled branches on top of himself, like a blanket, to stay as warm as he could.
When evening came, Nicholas was really hungry. He ate some snow and drank some water from nearby stream so that he wouldn’t dehydrate (脱水). Then he returned to his cave and slept.

Eager and excited, she flagged her yellow blouse and spared no effort to yell so as to attract others’ attention. Fortunately, she was eventually noticed and brought into the helicopter. There, she saw her husband, a man staring at her, wearing an expression of relief. As tightly as possible, she hugged him and was too thrilled to say anything. Besides, they agreed never to quarrel again, determining to live the life to the fullest.
