McDonald's is partnering with the White House to promote vaccination(疫苗接种) information on its coffee cups as hesitancy grows about taking the potentially life-saving shot.
Beginning in July, customers in the United States will see redesigned McCafe cups and delivery seal stickers that features "We Can Do This," a slogan created by the US Department of Health and Human Services to promote vaccine confidence. It also includes a website address (vaccines.gov) that directs people to nearby appointments and safety information.
The promotion will last several weeks and the slogan will be printed on roughly 50 million cups. Prior to that, McDonald's (MCD) said its billboard in New York's Times Square location will also display vaccine information beginning in mid-May.
"We all want to protect ourselves and our loved ones and be together with our communities again," said Genna Gent, McDonald's USA vice president for global public policy and government relations. Xavier Becerra, the Health and Human Services secretary, said, “The public-private partnership will help more people make informed decisions about their health and learn about steps they can take to protect themselves and their communities."
McDonald's wasn't paid by the government for this promotion, according to a person familiar with the campaign.
The "We Can Do This" campaign was announced in March and aimed at encouraging hesitant Americans to get vaccinated. In a Kaiser Family Foundation survey, 47% of people who say they want to "wait and see" before being vaccinated said paid time off to get it would make them more likely to do so, and 39% said a financial allowance of $200 from their employer would work.
The US vaccination rate has declined from its peak last month, pushing officials to work out new ideas to further encourage the cautious, hesitant and inaccessible to get vaccinated. So far, more than 150 million people in the US have received at least one dose(剂量) of the vaccine.

If you are a parent, you are likely familiar with the scramble(争夺) to buy clothes before a baby’s arrival. Perhaps you know, too, the surprise that ensues(接着发生)when that baby does not fit any of the newborn clothes you so carefully selected and washed in advance--or grows out of them within weeks. Meanwhile, the clothes are in good condition.
That’s where a new approach to clothes shopping could come in handy. Subscription and rental services aimed specifically at parents and young children are popping up across the United States and Europe.
Elizabeth Bennet writes for Eco Age that reselling children’s clothes can save up to 75% of the carbon footprint associated with producing an item of clothing. Considering that children go through at least ten sizes before the age of three, and an average of 900 items in total throughout an entire childhood, there is great potential to reduce the environment impact of clothing with the help of these new services.
Circos is a Europe-based company that ships internationally and rents out clothes for babies and pregnant mothers on a pay-by-month basis. You get a basic subscription and pay for whatever items you want to rent on top of that. Circos says its pieces are used by 8 to 10 families on average, which is considerably more than the typical two-to-three-month lifespan of baby and toddler clothing .
Company founder Laura Roso Vidrequin said,“ There is nothing new in buying old and selling old. I’m just shouting about it and making it accessible.” She sees it as an extension of the sharing economy, which is only going to get bigger as years go by.
Some parents may be worried about rental clothes getting damaged or worn out, but the companies are prepared for that. They reassure customers that wear and tear is a normal part of infancy and childhood and that if an item suffers damage, it could be relisted at a lower price than before. The goal isn’t to keep the clothing circulating forever, but just longer than it would if each household were buying it independently.
28.What is the purpose of this passage
A.To introduce a newly emerging service .
B.To point out the future of clothing industry .
C.To call on people to buy earth-friendly clothes .
D.To show young parents’ attitude toward parenting .
29. What might be Elizabeth Bennett’s opinion according to the passage
A.Parents spend too much on babies .
B.Baby clothes needn’t use good material .
C.There is a potential market behind babies and women .
D.Clothing industry can also cause pollution .

A. The clothes may not fit well.
B. The clothes may be too expensive.
C. They are afraid that the rental clothes are in bad condition.
D. Children may feel uncomfortable when wearing the rented clothes.

Doctors sometimes prescribe light therapy to treat a form of depression in people who get too little morning sun. But too much light at other times may actually cause such mood disorders.
Long-lasting exposure to light at night brings depression, a new study finds, at least in animals. The new data confirm observations from studies of people who work night shifts, says Richard Stevens of the University of Connecticut Health Center. Mood disorders join a growing list of problems, including cancer, obesity and diabetes-that can occur when light throws life out of balance by disturbing the biological clock and its timing of daily rhythms.
In the new study, Tracy Bedrosian and Randy Nelson of Ohio State University exposed mice to normal light and dark cycles for four weeks. For the next four weeks, half of the mice remained on this schedule, and the rest received continuous dim light throughout their pared with mice exposed to normal nighttime darkness, those getting dim light at night lost their strong preference for sweet drinks, “A sign they no longer get pleasure out of activities they once enjoyed.” Bedrosian says.
In a second test, mice were clocked on how long they actively tried to escape a pool of water. Those exposed to night lights stopped struggling and just floated in the water, a sign of "behavioral despair”, 10 times as long as the mice that had experienced normal nighttime darkness. All symptoms of depression disappeared within two weeks of the mice returning to a normal light-dark cycle, the researchers report. The scientists also could quash the behavioral symptoms by injecting the brains of animals with a drug that prohibits the activity of certain molecules linked with human depression. This finding further suggests that light at night may cause something related to depression.
Human studies linking nighttime light and mood disorders are important but can't easily detect molecular underpinings (分子基础)as animal studies can, says George Brainard of Thomas Jefferson University. The new work, he says, suggests that the change of the biological clock by light at night can be “an extremely powerful force in regulating biology and behavior."
32. After being exposed to continuous nighttime light, the mice__________.
A. changed their preferences B. escaped from the water more eagerly
C. showed less interest in their favorites D.remained active as before
33. What does the underlined word “quash" in Para. 4 probably mean

A. human mood disorders cannot be healed easily.
B. light at night may have practical value.
C. the biological clock is beneficial to humans.
D. human studies are more important than animal studies.
35. What is the main idea of the passage
A. Nighttime light may develop depression.
B. A drug has been found to cure mood disorders.
C. The study on animals can be applied to humans.
D. Human biological clock can be controlled by light.

Shyness is normal and it is not considered as a mental problem. All people have been shy at one time or another. Even the most confident people experienced being shy. 36 .
You probably are wondering why you are shy. It may be because of the environment you were used to or the way you were brought up. Certain events or incidents in the past may also lead to the reason why you are shy now. 37 Most shy people have shy parents and relatives and it is not surprising to find out that they too have become shy persons.
One of the negative sides of being shy is having the tendency to be passive. Most of the time shy people can't stand up for themselves and what they believe is right. 38 These apparently influence their social life as well as work, family and other aspects of their life.
While shyness has negative aspects, it has positive sides. Shy people are usually good observers and do not get themselves into too much trouble because they try to observe their environment or any situation before they act. 39 They can also make great friends. Since they have difficulties in social scenes, making friends seems to be a must. Therefore, they value their friends wholeheartedly' and have proven to be loyal and thoughtful friends.
40 Some shy people who have shy parents have successfully battled against being shy. This contributes to their constant self-improvement, developing self-esteem and trying to be exposed to new environments.
A. But in most cases, shyness proves to be genetic.
B. They are sensitive and accustomed to getting suspicious.
C. Because some people are born to be shy, they let it go hang.
D. So if you're feeling shy, don't worry because you are not alone.
E. They are not hot-headed and think twice before making any decisions.
F. Although shyness is mostly something from birth, it can be improved over time.

The other day our school had organized a traditional culture festival. Hearing this news, we were very exciting and decided to make Hanfu with old newspapers. First, we surfed the Internet for the Hanfu’s original culture and different style. With the information collected, we started to design their own style. After a couple of attempts, our design was finally created. Immediately, we got down work. We cut the newspapers, stick the pieces together and even colored them. Finally, until our show time came, we walked the runway wear our elegant Hanfu and the audience cheered and applauded wildly. This activity gave us a strongly sense of achievement. More importantly, we gained pride or knowledge about our traditional culture.
