Jane grew up with her grandma .
She loves her grandma very much .
One day,Jane received some
bad news . Her grandma had a
terrible type of cancer .
This made Jane very sad .
Jane’s grandma once had a dream of travelling around the world . Jane wanted to help her realize it,but her grandma was very sick. One day,Jane had a great idea . If Grandma could not travel herself,maybe there was another way .
The next day,Jane went online to tell people her grandma’s story . She posted pictures of her grandma on a blog . She asked people if they could help her grandma see the world through pictures. After a few days,many people began to follow Jane’s blog. They began posting pictures of Grandma visiting places all over the world .
They also sent their blessings and warm wishes with every picture .
Grandma was very surprised when Jane showed her the pictures. In one of them,Grandma was visiting the Pyramids in Egypt. In another,Grandma was standing by the Statue of Liberty in New York. In a third picture,Grandma was on the Great Wall of China. She was even at the Sydney Opera House in Australia. In the last one,she was standing in front of Big Ben in England.
Grandma took Jane’s hand and said, “This is wonderful! Thank you and all of those people. You have made my dream come true. ”Neither Jane nor her grandma would ever forget that day.

receive /r 'si v/ v. 收到;接到
receive sth. from sb. 从某人处收到某物
e.g. He received an award for his bravery from the police service.
他以其勇敢的行为受到警务部门的奖励。
① receive 表示是客观上的“收到”。 She received a letter from her father.
她收到了她父亲的一封信。
② accept 强调愿意接受, 是主观上的“接受” I can’t accept an excuse like that.
我无法接受那样的一个借口。
辨析:receive 与accept
2. Her grandma had a terrible type of cancer.(教材P56)
cancer /'k ns / n. 癌;癌症
have a cancer 是固定搭配,意为“患癌症”。
have 表示“患,得( 病)”时,与get 和catch 同义。
e.g. Three days ago she caught/got a cold. 三天前她感冒了。
She has had a cold for three days. 她已经感冒三天了。
区别在于:have是延续性动词,可以和一段时间连用;而catch 和get 是瞬间动词,不能和一段时间连用。

dream /dri m/ n. & v. 梦想;做梦
①作名词时为可数名词, 其复数形式为dreams。
常用于短语“实现梦想”:
one’s dream comes true
realize one’s dream
e.g. The boy’s dream is to be a pilot.
这个男孩的梦想是成为一名飞行员。
②作动词时既可为及物动词也可为不及物动词, 用作不及物动词时, 常和介词about 或of 连用。
构成短语dream about/of...梦想……
e.g. I dream of running my own business. 我梦想自己开公司。
一语辨异:
I dreamed a sweet dream. I dreamed of being a hero.
我做了一个甜美的梦。我梦到我成了一个英雄。
4. Jane wanted to help her realize it, but her grandma was very sick.(教材P56)
realize v. 实现,将……变为现实
e.g. The girl finally realized her dream of becoming an actress.
那个女孩当演员的梦想终于实现了。
拓展:realize 作及物动词,还可意为“认识到;了解到”,其后可接名词或代词作宾语,也可接宾语从句。
e.g. He didn’t realize his mistakes. 他没有认识到自己的错误。
e.g. I’m sure you’ll realize your dream one day.
=I’m sure your dream will come true one day.
我相信有一天你的梦想会实现。
realize 主语是人,宾语是计划、希望、梦想等,可用于被动语态。
come true 主语是愿望、目标或梦想等,不用于被动语态。
辨析:realize; come true
5. She asked people if they could help her grandma see the world through pictures.(教材P56)
if conj. 是否 引导宾语从句。
if引导宾语从句时,有时可与whether互换。
e.g. She asked me if/whether I could help her with her English.
她问我是否能帮她学英语。
只能用whether, 不能用 if:
①在带to 的动词不定式前。
②在介词后面。
③与or not 直接连用。
e.g. She hasn’t decided whether to go to the concert yet.
她还没有决定去不去那个音乐会。
I’m thinking of whether we should go on a picnic.
我正在想我们是否该进行一次野餐。
I can’t say whether or not he will come on time.
他能否准时来,我说不准。

wish /w / n. 祝愿;愿望;渴望
常用其复数形式wishes。
e.g. We all send our best wishes for your early recovery.
我们都祝你早日康复。
wish还可以作动词,表示“希望”,
wish sb. to do sth.希望某人做某事 。
7. In another, Grandma was standing by the Statue of Liberty in New York.(教材P56)
by /ba / prep. 在……旁边;在……附近
e.g. Our school is by the river. 我们学校在河的旁边。
by其他用法:
①“by+交通工具”意为“乘……”,表示交通方式。
② by意为“靠……,通过……”,表示手段。
③ by意为“在……前;不迟于”,表示时间。
8. You have made my dream come true. (教材P56)
come true 实现 通常指梦想、愿望的实现。
e.g. I hope all your dreams can come true.
我希望你所有的梦想都能成真。
My dream will come true someday.
我的梦想有一天会实现。
