Unit 3 Weather B Let’s learn and let’s play
Teaching analysis
This unit introduces and develops the theme of weather, which is closely related to our daily life. This lesson is the second part of this unit. By studying of this lesson, Students are expected to master some new words and sentence patterns. They can enrich their vocabulary and improve their language practice ability to ensure they can use what they have learnt in real language situation.
Analysis of students
This lesson is intended for students of grade four. Students in grade four are innocent and lively, at the same time they are very active and love to sing and perform. They have learnt English for more than one year and they are good at imitating and eager to show themselves. However, some of them may not be confident enough in class because they are afraid of making mistakes. So during my class, I will try my best to give them chances to show themselves to create a relaxed, lively learning atmosphere and let them play in the situation, think in the situation and learn in the situation so that they can use the new knowledge correctly.
Teaching Aims
Knowledge objects:
1)Students can listen, read and speak the core words: sunny, rainy, snowy, windy, cloudy and use them skillfully
2)Students can use the sentence patterns-What’s the weather like in… Today it’s…and …in…-properly
Ability objects:
1)To train Ss’ abilities of listening and speaking
2) Students can use the new words and sentences to describe weather in certain regions
3.moral objects:
1)To develop students' interest in learning English and build up their confidence in learning English
2)To cultivate their virtue of helping others

Teaching procedures
Step 1. Lead-in
T: Good morning, girls and boys.
Ss: Good morning, Miss Li.
T: Glad to see you again. Today we will go on with unit 3 weather. Before our class, I have a question for you: Do you like reading stories
Ss: Yes.
T: I think most of you like reading stories. Today we will enjoy a famous story. Now let’s watch a short video together.
( Play a short animation video about The Snow Child.)
Purpose: To arouse students’ interest and set a better English learning surroundings.
Step 2. Presentation
T: Now, let’s enjoy the interesting story.
Teaching about “snowy”
CAI shows the first picture. In the picture, there is a forest, and it’s snowing outside. It’s cold. I will ask students to describe what they can see in the picture and fill the blanks with “snow” and “cold” in sentences both in Chinese and English. Then I will give them a picture of snow and the word “snow”. I will write it on the blackboard and at the same time ask students to spell and read after me together. Since they have learnt the words “rain” and “rainy”, I think it not difficult for them to change the noun “snow” into the adjective “snowy”. Then I will give them a picture. When I ask “What’s the weather like in this picture ”, they will answer “It’s snowy.”
Purpose: To present the new words and sentences in situations, which relate to students’ real life experience to help them understand the language easily and naturally.
Teaching about “ sunny” “cloudy” “windy”
The whole story consists of twelve pictures in all. I will ask students to tell the story according to the pictures and the storyline.
In the last two pictures, the sun, cloud and wind will appear, and I will also ask students to fill the blanks with the three words both in Chinese and English. After that, I will take the same teaching method as “snowy” to help them maser the word “sunny” “cloudy” “and “windy”
Purpose: To concentrate their attention on my class and train their ability of expression.
Step 3 Practice and Development
After giving an example, I will first ask students to work in pairs to ask and answer according to the picture on page 28. Then I will give them a map of China. Meanwhile, everyone of them will get a piece of paper, on which some useful words are written. I will ask them to prepare for a while and then act as a weather reporter to broadcast in front of the class.
Purpose: To help students to master the new words skillfully through a true situation. And train their oral English as well as the ability to show themselves.
Step4 Conclusion and Homework
I will ask students to conclude the part of speech of each group on the blackboard. Students will be required to read and write the new words and keep a weather diary of a week to consolidate what they have learnt.
