American high school life
In America, after middle school comes high school. It is from Grade 9 to Grade 12. Students need to take subjects like English, math, science and P.E. Also, they need to choose elective subjects (选修课) to complete their high school education. Elective subjects are music, art, foreign languages, etc.
Every student in the school has their own locker (有锁存物柜) for books and personal things.
Then students don’t need to carry textbooks, and everyone has a small space for themselves.
Each school has some yearly activities, such as homecoming (返校节), prom(舞会), holiday celebrations, etc.
Homecoming is celebrated each autumn, usually on a weekend. Although homecoming is celebrated differently at each school, it usually ends with a football game and school dance.
The prom is a dance party for students in Grade 11 and 12, and it is the most important social event of the school year. At the prom, students dance, drink and talk.
