China signed the agreement in 1985 and there are now 31 Chinese sites on the World Heritage List. Suzhou is one of the 31sites and was the place where the 28th World Heritage Conference is held. Suzhou lies in Jiangsu Province, near Shanghai. It is a city with a 2,500– year history. There are 6 million people there.
