We cannot see some kinds of wild animals now.
Aurochs（欧洲野牛）lived in Europe.
They were big and heavy.
They looked like cows.
Dodos（渡渡鸟） lived on a little island.
They were big birds with small wings.
They were cute.
Steller’s sea cows（大海牛） lived near the shore.
They liked swimming in cold sea water.
They were black.
Not very long ago, there were millions and millions of passenger pigeons（旅鸽） in North America. They were very common in that part of the world. A passenger pigeon only laid one egg each spring.
This animal is a quagga（斑驴）. It lived in South Africa. It looked a little like a zebra and a little like a horse.
The elephant bird（象鸟）lived on an island.
It was three metres tall.
It was also the world’s biggest bird.
The last elephant bird lived around 300 years ago.
The moa（恐鸟） was a huge ostrich（鸵鸟）.
It lived in New Zealand.
It had very strong legs.
The Tasmanian（塔斯马尼亚的） wolf lived in Tasmania. People also called it the Tasmanian tiger because it had a head like a wolf, a tail like a dog, and stripes on its body like a tiger. People hunted them because they sometimes killed sheep and chickens.
Some kinds of wild animals are dying out now.
Giant pandas live in the forests of China.
They like eating bamboos.
A baby panda is very small.
The orang-utan（猩猩） looks like a man.
It has long arms.
It lives in wet warm forests.
This strange-looking animal is an aye-aye（狐猴）. Aye-ayes are very small. They live in trees and come out at night for food. People kill them because they think aye-ayes bring bad luck.
We must stop killing these animals for food, for their skin, or just for sport.
These animals do not have enough food or clean water. We must help protect their homes.
These animals lost their homes because people cut down trees in the forests. We must help save the trees and forests.

One day, Joy and Elsa went for a walk. They saw a rhino. Elsa
drove away the rhino and saved Joy.
Joy and Elsa lived together for many months. Elsa grew up and learnt a lot. Then Joy sent her back to the wild.
Three years later, Joy saw Elsa again. Elsa had three babies. Joy was very happy to see her.
